  1. Yeh, I have been trying to source a fair price but no luck :(

How expensive have turkey necks gotten? Sheesh, I fed them yrs ago and they were about $1.50 for about 5 of them. Yesterday I went to grab some and they were about $6 for 4  With all my dogs it's just not viable to feed them too often.

I know it's ridiculous. Chicken necks and frames are the same! I've seen them in the supermarket for between $3-$5 p/kg. What a rip off!

I am lucky to have a chicken processor in the next suburb and only pay $1kg for frames, $1.80kg for necks and $2.20kg for wings but if I am lucky I will get 2nds wings for only $1kg - nothing wrong the quality, broken wings or bruised..not pretty but the dogs don't care. Also have a wholesale butchers that have a great selection for us and the dogs at great prices.

Best thing about buying wings in bulk - we share the wings with the dogs...they are only dog food when it's in their bowls  . I have been known to give them something else and put the wings in the oven for dinner :D .

  2. I buy frames by the 10kg box for $10 from a chicken processor, can't remember how many in a box though. I either feed them as they are or stuff them with beef or home made barf. They get the lot, have never removed anything from them except for the excess fat for the boy who needs less fat in his diet.

  3. I do not have a dog here that would pass. Perhaps with the exception of my 4 month old puppy.

They'd all instantly fail on prey drive

Same here, all mine would fail on drive and cats alone - even my pug would fail..it's beyond stupid :mad

One even shows teeth when saying "yuk" to something, if she doesn't like she screws up her nose shows her teeth and walks away. You should see her around smokers :o . I have had a few dogs who hate the smell of smoke, if someone has been smoking and goes to handle them they don't like it, certainly not aggressive - I suppose that would be a negative reaction too.

  4. I have vasectomies and tubals done on my large breed pups before they go to new homes. Could not believe how quickly they recovered. When I picked them up from the vets it was like nothing had even been done. Vet said "keep them quiet" , yeah right  . And the incisions were tiny. As for showing, I rang Dogs QLD to enquire about showing a dog with a vasectomy (one I bred and the owner expressed interest in hvaing him shown) and it is completely allowable. He initially said no but I quoted the rules/regs on showing male dogs and it says nothing about vasectomies. He said he would ring me back. And he did and said that it was ok to show him (not that we did in the end anyway). So having said that I would assume a bitch who has had a tubal is allowed to be shown too.

The grey area just got bigger, I suppose when the rules were written dogs were either entire or desexed - tubals and vasectomies are becoming more popular the rules should be updated to include other methods of sterilizing dogs...but it would still come down to honesty.

Good to know that your puppies had a fast recovery :D

  5. Worth noting that the tubal ligation can be done during a Ceasar with virtually no extra time or expense.

Where do such bitches/dogs fit in the show ring? Are they considered neutered? Or is a hormonally intact dog complete with balls considered intact?

You would "assume" they would be considered desexed since they are unable to reproduce once they have had tubals/vasectomies but it would also go under the honesty of the owner to admit to the procedure being done...huge grey area for honesty. Unfortunately not all owners are honest enough to retire a dog once it has been desexed and will continue to show it anyway.

I just like the idea of puppies being able to develop naturally and prevent them from being bred..only real down fall is they will need a second surgery to finish the job later if the owner wants to have the dogs fully desexed. I already have one pup in the hands of a BYB and will not allow another to end up in the same situation again. I don't want to desex puppies but I am happy and comfortable to do the tubals/vasectomies.

If I was to chose the wrong pup(s) for myself - that's just bad luck and I can live with that.

  6. OMG thats scarey! you would think nothing wrong with doing them around the same time.

I wonder what the toxic combination was?

It says flea "bomb" and I know all the ones I have seen have required the animals and humans to be removed from the area being done. So it may not have been the combination- it may have been misuse of a product.

Just speculation. He may not have used a flea bomb- it may just be his terminology.

He said he flea bombed them, so I read it as flea powder but could be wrong.

Growing up we used to say we flea bombed the dogs - as in flea powdered them.

  7. Erny,

If you can't find horse in your area let me know and i'll see what I can do here.

The "doggers" turn up at every horse sale,so shouldn't be too hard to track down a local source through the yards.

If you do get horse, ask how it comes...I had some delivered a month ago and told them to take it back. I had horses for almost 20 years and could not touch the slab of horse meat that was delivered - it was almost the size of a small pony... a massive chunk of flesh. Had it been diced or minced I would have told myself it was beef but could not bring myself to touch the horse meat as a whole slab. No doubt I have a been black listed now so won't be calling them for another order anytime soon :o .

Shame really because I think it would have been a great meat source for Hamish, however if his diet needs change in the future I will have to deal with it.

  8. our pups come with litter blankets, specially made fleece blankets, double sided, embroidered with our prefix and our litter name (in this case, it is our Destiny litter)

am considering whether to include their next dose of wormer (i.e. 10 weeks dose) not sure though as they should have had a vet check up on arrival anyway though!

    Ruth

I love this idea  This is when I wish I had sewing skills :D

I use to give first worming tablet but no longer do. I think most people like to choose there own brand.

This is one of the reasons I bought an embroidery machine and you only need basic sewing skills to make up a simple blanket. I am making my next litter their own little blankies too, it's been 2 years since my last one.

RJ - Sounds like you have pretty much everything covered, great puppy pack with heaps of information and personal goodies - the new owners have to be happy with that. .

  9. Pugs and Frenchies can't - they are too top heavy! LOL

Yes they can :) My girl used to swim and my mum and dads pugs can swim too..

    This is my girl.

Love this clip, have seen it before and I just love it   .

Lizzy (Pug) is a good little swimmer too, she chased a kelpie in a creek when the kids were taking the dogs for a walk and they were ready to go in after her but she never needed them. She loved the beach too. My Rottweilers are all water babies and the docked bitch is a much better swimmer than her tailed kids, they swim very well but their mother is better. Haven't tried Charli (Pug) at swimming yet but she isn't as keen to play in the clam or puddles like the others so she might not be any good.

  10. What i think? I think Vic is led by imbeciles.

Where I am you can desex when ever and if ever you want ,and micro chipped it's then free registration for life.

    Where are you?

Pet registrations generally fund local laws. I don't know any where it's free - apart from remote shires that have no animal management set up yet.

Cooloola shire, all rate payers fund local animal management laws whether dog owner or not.

entires are 80, desexed is 20, and desexed and microchipped is free.

That would never happen in Vic - look at all the money that would be lost - they love ripping dog owners off.

  11. Since finding a vet is an issue I would advising that the bitch the op is referring to is never bred again since quality vet care in not at hand.

There are two base clinics in one town ..one is a decently equipped/accredited hospital ..and this practice also runs clinics during daytime at other small towns...

    Thanks pers.

eta: for what it's worth, city traffic is no fun either when in a rush to the vets - I would much rather be driving an hour or so on country roads for a vet than getting caught in city traffic.

  12. Give me country vet prices over city vets any day!

I grew up in the country and now live in the outer suburbs where em c sections cost over $2000 around here. I have had a bitch at the em clinic in under 10 mins and they still never touched her for over an hour when they were QUIET, had I known they were not interested I would have driven less than the hour to a country vet who I know would not have wasted any time.

I also have family and friends who are smack bang in the middle of no where and still manage to find a vet in the middle of the night when necessary.

Since finding a vet is an issue I would advising that the bitch the op is referring to is never bred again since quality vet care in not at hand.
