  1. I bought a 5m nylon lunge-line from Horseland. It has a good-quality clip and a looped handle. And it's not too heavy either.
  2. lol interesting technique! I'm pretty sure if I tried this though, Spence would not be content to just sit back and watch.. he'd rush straight over to help berate the offending object!
  3. Dru, I taught my dog to do this trick by combining two easier tricks - 'paws up' and 'sad'. To teach paws up from a sit, get the dog to sit in front of a chair and then encourage him to place his paws on the seat. If the dog can already do other paw-related tricks like 'shake' or 'wave' this shouldn't be too hard. To teach 'sad' put the dog in a drop and then lure his head to the ground with a treat. When you're just starting out, C&T straight away and then gradually extend the time that he has to keep his head on the ground before treating. Once the dog knows these two tricks and can perform them consistently, combine the two. Get the dog to sit in front of a chair, table etc., tell him to 'paws up' and then 'sad'. Hope this helps!
  4. wow i never thought of a raised paw during a sit as a bad thing. spence has always done it since he was a puppy..before we taught him anything. we've since taught him a few paw-related things like shake, gimme 5, and high 5, but he will still sit with a raised paw and tilted head after he's finished an exercise. he looks as if he's saying, "treat please!" it usually gets a laugh from the other people in the class and a few "awww"s! having said that, he will sit with all four paws on the ground when i tell him to "sit". just wondering why it would be considered a 'bad habit' if you're not planning on doing obedience trials?
  5. I love watching the dog whisperer, although it seems they're only showing re-runs now I like most of Cesar's methods, but disagree with his method of walking dogs (not allowing them to sniff at all). I find that if I let Spence sniff around a little at the start of a walk (without pulling on the lead) he settles down pretty quickly and is happy to walk at my side. If I try to keep him at my side from the start he is much more likely to want to pull and dash off to the side to sniff a tree. one more thing which I can't believe no one has mentioned earlier....I am absolutely head-over-heels in love with......daddy the pitbull!
