Dr Bruce's Vets All Natural Puppy Complete Mix
StaceyB replied to Bulldust's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a look on the website last night and it looks like the only supplier in Perth is quiet a fair way away from me (over 1 hour drive) and it doesn't look like you can get the puppy mix online... -
Will Heron Paracetemol Hurt A Dog?
StaceyB replied to StaceyB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I gave her the amount of salt & water the vets told me to, do they normally vomit straght away? She hasn't yet and I'm wondering if I should give her some more... -
Will Heron Paracetemol Hurt A Dog?
StaceyB replied to StaceyB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've just called them, they told me to try to get her to vomit (and told me how) so I'll give that a go, if she has swallowed any it will bring them up. If she seems sick when I get up in the morning I'll take her in. They are my normal vets anyway and I can just leave her there for the day while I'm at work. -
Will Heron Paracetemol Hurt A Dog?

Thanks guys, I don't think she actually swallowed any... But as I have said on other posts, she's my first dog and and I'm paranoid about anything happening to her - Luckily we have a 24hr vet 20mins away, they are part of the University I work at so I have salary packaged funds waiting to be spent if I panic about something! -

I'm almost at the end of the current food Gypsy has, I think I'll try to track down a supplier and give it a go. Gypsy is pretty picky with dry food though... -
I've got Bonnie Puppy for Gypsy, she is doing really well on it. City farmers had a promo on so I thought I'd give it a go. I tried Supercoat (Puppy) for a while, but she poo'd a lot and it smelt rancid! I've also tried Purina One, that was pretty good too.

The bottle of Heron Paracetemol was on top of the fridge and fell off and broke when I opened the door. I thought I cleaned up all the tablets, but Gypsy just had hold of one. I took it off her but I'm not sure if she got any others. Would it have any adverse effects on her if she managed to swallow one or two? They are just the standard tabsules you get in the supermarket and Gypsy is about 28kg.

Oh Chop, I'm so sorry. He was such a wonderful boy! Take care and give the kidlet a hug!

Ggypsy and I had our intro class on Wednesday (just gone) and next week we start basic obedience. She is already pretty good, but all the training just goes out the window when she's excited so the classes will be really go for her (i.e learning to pay attention to me when there are plently of distractions). Oh and just a tip, when you go for your first lession try to get someone to come with you. I went by myself with Gyps and she was making a huge fuss tyring to play with the other dogs, pulling and barking etc... and I couldn't fill out all the paperwork, luckily one of the trainers saw I was having trouble and held her while I went to sort out the paperwork.

I was having a cuddle with Gypsy last night and i noticed that she has some little lumps all over her legs, to me the look like mozzie bites that people would normally get. We also have a big ant problem so it could be ant bites as well. Do you think this would be a valid explanation? I realise that you can't say for sure without seeing the lumps, but Gypsy is my first dog so I'm a bit paranoid and neurotic about things....

Took me about 7 months to get Gypsy toilet trained, she's still not perfect, but generally really good. She can hold it through the night now, or if get up to go to the toilet she will let me know if she needs to go out too, so she goes out, I do my thing and then bring her in again. The last time she had an accident was my fault for not paying attention when she asked to go out.

Excellent news! So glad she's ok.

Haha! Thats funny Kobayashi, exactly the type if thing I find in my yard. I never realised the sheer volume of fluff that can come out of a queen size quilt!! And Gyps has ripped all the bedding in her kennel up - not gonna replace it till winter (she sleeps inside anyway).
-
I figured she was acting out through boredom. I'll have to think up some new tricks for her.

Gypsy has just hit 9 months. I take her to the park for a run around most mornings (usually 3 or 4 out of 5 weekdays) and I try to have a good play after dinner for about 1/2 an hour. We went to puppy school when she was a baby, but thats about it as far as formal training. I do maybe 5-10 mins getting her to sit, drop, shake hands on a daily basis.

It's mostly just general destructive behaviour in the back yard (i.e starting to pull washing off the clothes line, chewing hoses & sprinklers), I have bought her some new toys and I scatter treat around the yard for her to find, but I think she's doing this because she's bored. Also, she is allowed on the couch and the bed, but not without an invitation and she has to get off as soon as she is told to. She has been really good until now, she sneaks up on the furniture and then just takes her time about getting off when she's told, and she refuses to go to her bed when she is told. As far as the washing and hose/sprinkler goes I have just been a bit more vigilant about leaving Gypsy outside while the washing is drying and making sure the hose gets put away properly. And the furniture thing is I think more "pushing the boundaries" type behaviour, which the training we are starting next week should help with as far as re-iterating that I am the boss, not her. Thanks guys, I know she'll grow out of it, but OH just can't get his head around it - must be because his head is stuck up his ass when I try to explain it to him so he can't hear properly!
-
Well, it's finally happened. Gypsy has hit adolescence! She is not interested in any of her toys and has decided it's much more fun to shred the washing/pegs/hose etc... She is also starting to get up on the couch and bed without an invitation and has been really stuborn about getting off and going to bed. But this vent is really about OH! He doesn't seem to get it. I try to explain that she is just going through a normal stage in her development and that she'll grow out of it. But the worst part is that she also seems to have hit a second fear stage, whenever she gets in trouble she runs away trembling or wets herself. OH gets frustrated with her and yells and of course she just gets terrified. I try to tell him not to rasie his voice and just be firm with her, but then he gets pi$$ed at me saying i'm being to soft on her. I don't think I'm being soft at all, she still gets in trouble and still gets 'Time Out" and a firm "No" when she is naughty, but I try no to yell at her because she just goes to pieces and I don't want to make her scared of us. I'm also going to start obedience training next week when the dog club starts back up again. I have aslo bought some new toys to try and stimulate her and been hiding treats around the yard for her to find.

My mum & dad used to have a Blue ACD, she had a natural "stumpy tail" (dad was born tail-less and mum had a full one, half the pup only had stumpy tails). After a few years though Mum had to have Molly's tail docked a bit any way, I was only about 13 at the time so i'm not too sure what the exact problem was, but I know the bone had a twist in it and Molly was very sensitive. It didn't really cause her much bother having a bit docked off, but that could be because it was so short anyway... I hope Scoobs gets better with the meds though!

One of the cats is doing that to me, she comes into the room yells at me for a minute and then takes off again. Silly little snot. I suppose Gypsy could just be comepletely stuffed from playing with my friends 2 little dogs all weekend. If she's still off her food tomorrow I think I might take her to the vet for a check over...
-
We went away for the long weekend and Gypsy stayed with a friend, since we got home she hasn't been interested in her food at all. I'm not really too worried about it at the moment because I figure she'll eat when she gets hungry enough and it's only been 1 night, but is this sort of thing normal for when a dog has been boarded or looked after when the owners go away for a little while? Cheers guys, Stacey

I want one!

I had never heard of that breed before, just googled them - what gorgeous looking dogs!

I'm going to get some Malasab shampoo on my way home tonight and I'll give it a try.

Had a look at all the pics of possible offending plants and we don't have any of those in the garden. I have a feeling though that it might be a big bush we have growing along the back fence, I don't know the name, but it's got heaps of pale purple/blue flowers that grow in clusters and stick to things i.e dog fur, clothes...

Thanks DogMad, I'll check out the other thread. It's not fleas, I check her pretty regularly and none of the cats have fleas or are scratching excessively.
