  1. Kirsten (16Paws) Wins ! Congratulations and many thanks to everyone who supported us. Its very much appreciated. Julie
  2. Who are the professionals? Registered breeders who in the main don't know diddly about breeding dogs when they start out or people who breed thousands each year without a care for the dogs?
  3. Quote - examples in San Mateo County, California in 1991 where the introduction of compulsory desexing saw cat deaths in shelters increase 86%. In the city of Los Angeles where they passed one of the most draconian mandatory spay/neuter laws in America (requiring virtually every dog and cat in the city to be sterilized by the age of 4 months), they saw their kill numbers go up 31%, after more than five years of steady decline in shelter killing. http://www.savingpets.com.au/2010/03/scien...es-in-victoria/
  4. No I haven't, because no-one has responded to my email of yesterday asking for the bank details. But if anyone would like to pm me that info and a reference number I'll buy some. Do you have it yet? Julie

  6. I resent being judged a moron because other people who own a dog might be morons. If I ensure my entire dog is looked after and kept responsibly then me and my dog shouldn't be punished and our rights removed in case we are not. Laws wont make any difference as they cant be policed and only responsible people follow the laws any way . The ACCC wont allow them to UP HOLD a law where only members of the ANKC are exempt as people who own any dog ANKC registered or not have a right to free trade and cant be made to join and pay money to any one group to do so. If laws which are in place now for example in some areas in Victoria are ever tested against federal laws where a government basically recruits members for an org which has a monopoly on purebred canine registrations things may change and its only a matter of time before that happens. The MDBA currently has approx 1000 members with approx 680 of these responsible pet owner members, rescue and professional members who have no desire or intent to breed,Some of these have elected to keep their dogs entire. These people voluntarily agree to a code of conduct and demonstrate they know whats required of them to be a responsible pet owner regardless of whether they own a purebred or not or if they want to keep an entire dog never intended for breeding. The MDBA does not register dogs or pedigrees and as such in some states our members cannot get the same exemptions as owners of dogs which are registered with the ANKC whether they are responsible owners or not. Yet.
  7. Just wanted to further explain we [MDBA PACERS] were bought in via SAFE Perth who are not able to help.
  8. The dog is in Boyanup and has to get to Shenton Park by midday tomorrow but if they cant take him we will need a back up for foster care as the neighbours dont see him as a priority so once we take him out for assessment he cant go back.
  9. We have a call for some help from WA. the owner has a terminal illness and his dog has been staying with a neighbour who has made arrangements for the dog to be put to sleep. Obviously this is causing huge grief for a dying man who has had this dog as his only companion. We have been able to hold the neighbour off till next week end and there may be a chance that Shenton Park dogs home have said they would do an assessment on him and possibly take him. Unfortunately the people who have him can't get him there on time. We're asking for someone to maybe transport him closer so the girl helping us could cut down on her travelling time of approx 8 hours to get him. If we cant find a carer or if Shenton cant take him we will fly him home to me so either way he will be safe but we may need someone to help move him around etc. If anyone can help me out with even temp care or transport that would take a hell of a lot of pressure off his dying owner This is spikes listing on Pet Rescue Visit My Website

  11. How can they enforce a law which tells people they cant do as they please with their own property?
  12. A new one today is a guy who has terminal cancer and the neighbour who has been looking after his dog is going to PTS this week. We have been able to hold it off a couple of days and if we cant find a carer in WA I will bring him home here. Any one in WA able to give this guy a place to stay until we can work out a new home for him as the owner doesn't have long to live. Im also still looking for a hand with a 9 year old ACD in Mossvale - temporary care until the owner gets some new accommodation where he can keep the dog Please yell if you can help these two.
  13. This dog is now safely snuggled up with his foster family - all is less stressful now for his owner and the dog.
  14. i dont agree. once the legislators get their hands on anything we have little chance of it making sense or staying true to the original intent. I agree! Things can get out of hand. Ideally it sounds great, it would eradicate the number of poor animals that are put down due to overbreeding but I wouldn't want australia to resemble Russia more and more every day. It wouldn't eradicate the numbers put down because of over breeding because if you stop more accidental litters then large scale puppy farmers breed more to fill the demand. No one has a hard time getting puppies sold and some rescue even specialize in taking pregnant dogs because they know they can find homes for the pups. Pups are rarely dumped and if they are they find homes dogs are dumped. Introduce mandatory desexing and all that will happen is that more desexed dogs will be dumped not that less dogs over all will be dumped bacause the demand is still the same. If the demand is the same then why are so many pups and kittens destroyed? Puppy farming should become extinct as they breed large scale and keep them in shocking conditions. I dont agree in mandatory desexing though. Lots of kittens are destroyed but few pups are. Adult dogs are not babies.
  15. Personally I'd rather see 100 dog owners having a litter now and then and raising them in their back yards - a litter at a time by accident than watching one puppy farmer pump out a couple of thousand a year.

  19. One of the things that happen when you start to thank people is that you run the risk of leaving someone out . Thank you to everyone who has helped with spreading the word, contribution via auctions, raffles and donations and just simply spreading the word about us. To those of you who have offered goods and services for us to use for fundraising and those Im still getting back to to take your offers up - Hang on Im coming - thank You. I wont name the people who have helped with graphics, websites, event management, proof reading, media releases, auctions etc in case I forget to name one but - thank you.
