  1. I, too, am a great fan of Cesar Millan but do think his actual show examples are mainly for extremes of behaviour; I can also testify however that they work. Our gsp was rousing on and blueing terribly with our very very soft dalmatian (drawing blood) and, cut a long story short, prior to thinking we'd have to have the gsp pts (devastating), I met Cesar when he was over for his stage show and although Pablo (gsp) didn't exhibit aggressive behaviour to be finally chosen (thank Dog as I wouldn't have been able to go on stage!!) I did have a brief chat and he told me to continue what I had already put in place because it was working. I didn't even have to go to the alpha roll or anything like that - it was merely a change in attitude; owning space; ensuring they waited, sitting, until I went through any doorway (took AGES with three of them ) but generally ensuring I was consistent, in charge and FELT like I was in charge; it may sound like 'touchy feely' californian crap but dogs really do pick up on how you project. This is why so many women who consult with Cesar adore him; he empowers them. Of course he is funny, attractive and an alpha male; what isn't to like Otherwise, I'd suggest, socialise your pup, train your pup, walk and when necessary gently discipline your pup and be consistent and in charge. Like kids really Love and enjoy your pup
  2. My three and the one before absolutely love it!!! Especially as it's "forbidden fruit" We have a three part hinged screen blocking the coridoor down to the bedrooms and laundry with a chair permanently at one side for cat access/retreat (the things we do for our pets ) and the buggers have learnt to pull open the screen; all we hear is a scrabble of nails so they can get into the laundry a) first and b) before they're shouted at to come out and there's a scrabble of nails back the other way - very funny albeit gross & (additionally; if OH 'forgets' to close the screen after him and there's been a violation, I encourage the poo-breath to go and lick him ... wicked! ) But it's perfectly natural for them; they also love the little 'sweeties' left all over the grass by the wild ducks that use the dam ... that's vegetation so doesn't stink! But we can't use blood and bone; horse or cow manure on the garden or they'd gorge themselves - luvverly!
  3. K9: we run workshops on various topics here in NSW a couple of times per year, there wont be another this year, probably mid next year but probably not on aggression as were running this one now... If you want to be on our mailing list, email us with your location on [email protected] & we will add you... Many thanks; have done so
  4. I have just seen this and would like to attend something on this but can't this weekend ... do you conduct these on a regular basis? Cheers
  5. The one thing I never am is rude without provocation - I have thanked everyone for the information which I will take on board and I explained further. I won't come back here now so if you have any more non-constructive comments I suggest you take them elsewhere
  6. Look, I'm after constructive advice here, not snotty replies; thanks for the response Spotted Devil and the links from Miranda and Persephone which I will read. I guess I didn't explain fully that I stood over him while he was still sitting and he needed to 'drop' and settle on his mat - the water was to get his attention to lay down; I didn't want to walk away while he was growling as I thought that would show deference to his dominance - once he was fully settled, I did pat him and he was ok again.
  7. Am having a bit of a problem with 'Prince' Pablo; he's a very wired german shorthaired pointer of four years of age; we've just had a newish wei puppy (5 months) who is already his size and there are three dogs, him, Enzo aged 6 (dalmatian) and the pup. He's obviously testing for top dog within the three but he's kind of going overboard. Last night he tried to dominate everyone for all the dogbeds although he was on (obviously!) only one. When I told him off and stood over him to get him to settle, he was really (almost frighteningly!! but I tried not to let him see and stood my ground) snarly and growly ... I stood until he stopped that and then 'shot' him with the water pistol which is an attention getter for all of them. Any advice; he seems better today but am I doing/not doing anything you might advise differently? Cheers
  8. Cheers Spotted Devil - thanks for your help too
  9. Excellent ... you're a star Harminee and thank you very very much :D
  10. You're a gem; that's fantastic ... now - I saw previously where you said 'right click' and copy location into the signature ... ? I've a mac and it's not playing? Anyone macish have suggestions? Sorry to be a pain :D Right! I've just tried opening another window and dragging and dropping into the Edit signature window ... seems to have transferred; will see if it's there - fingers crossed
  11. Many thanks Harminee ... you must be an Angel in Paradise :D It's really appreciated and I hope you really enjoy it and are not just unable to say 'no'!!
  12. Lilith I adore the look of what Harminee has done with Anzac; both that type of lettering and the dark background Thanks again whoever may be able to help :D
  13. These are my guys with their names; thanking you in anticipation for your time and work - it will be very much appreciated The fourth will have to go on another posting ... Opus (25/12/99 - 09/11/07) with us for a good time not a long time xx Enzo Pablo and last but not least ...
  14. I have been directed to this thread as I was trying (in vain) to put together a horizontal pictured (4 different dogs) signature with names ... if I put the photos on here, would anyone be kind enough? It looks like there are some fabulously talented people who love this kind of thing (as do I but I do not yet have either the tools nor the talent!) - it would be much appreciated. I'll go off and find my best photos. Cheers
  15. I've just seen this so am very late with any response but, d'you know, I really really like the third one; it kind of epitomises the long vulnerable trek these little guys have to make - I think you should maybe do one of those 'triptichs' or whatever they're called (probably something completely different!!) where you have the three of the same size on the wall? Fabulous event and fabulous photos
  16. Mac's rule! I will email you some links to some great Photoshop actions. just discovered this thread; i too have just become the proud owner of a beautiful mac and love it to bits - also noticed your wonderful photos in the dane thread and perused your website Charlotte; you're very talented and very generous to give information on here; I'm guessing that Photoshop is the best editing software to use on the mac? Wonder whether you'd mind posting links as a response to this? Cheers
  17. Freckles: are you using Photoshop for this - is it the best software for this kind of thing? and do you use pc or mac? i have just changed to a mac and would like a more advanced tool ... cheers
  18. Fabulous thread everyone; i was just looking for information on raw for a new pup and two adults and am blown away by the response especially from DeltaCharlie ... incredibly informative and will research the websites suggested and thanks heaps for your time fyi; here are the three muskateers (my original big wei girl in the avatar lost early due to tumour; hoping maybe excellent diet could prevent? ... although she did have a pretty good one) thanks again
  19. This looks really good; can anyone suggest the difference(s) that may be made for puppies? (if any) I have just become a proud 'mum' of the littlie shown below and have two adult dogs - one a dal so i know his diet has to be limited in purines which are in beef, offal and even spinach (!) Cheers Lilith asleep on the sofa
  20. Surely there should be no issue of whether you can get these things 'cheap' or 'diy' ... if you are looking for these things, then perhaps you should think again about breeding puppies; they're not just a money making machine and hopefully you are not thinking this way. Do it all above board and ensure you provide the best for your new pups, including vetting new owners. Please ;)
