  1. I am probably 3-4m away from the pack and I am varying when I mark with either a click or a "good Girl", but its always after she has picked the article up and is on her way back - yesterday it was noticeable that when I gave her the feedback she came back much quicker. I also started playing the 2 food game so throwing the scented article in one direction and food in the other direction when she was bringing it back before I sent her to find the first time. Its interesting to watch the process of starting with 2 articles, one correct and one incorrect and its a case of the dog really just being lucky to get the correct one - to adding more articles and them starting to sniff and make an informed decision. Thats when you know they understand the game. I will try and get it on video at some stage
  2. BY George I think she's got it. Up to 5 unscented metals and 1 scents one and she has now started sniffing them all and making the correct decision when she gets to the right one. :D Have added two more unscented metals for tomorrows session - I leave them on the front lawn overnight Go Cider. Let's hope the articles are there in the morning or you'll be starting on seek back Caffy - well the articles were still there and we did 7 unscented + 1 scented one - so will start on woods tomorrow
  3. Thanks to everybody for letting me know when their i-squeaks arrive - whew I am really enjoying seeing the photos and Youtube clips. Rosie FT - I am really sorry - I was at k9 tonight - but I trained under cover and didn't remember until 8.30ish. I will be under cover again next week
  4. The best way to indicate to your dog that you are about to turn is to turn your head in the direction you are turning 1/2 a step before you do it.

  6. Look at those eyes Sorry Ams - can't win them all :p
  7. Priorities - I went to Maccas for Breakfast, came home and trained the kids and then cleaned up
  8. I did scent with Cider Bear this morning - now have 3 unscented and 1 scented article down I am not worrying about presents, turns or sit waits - just picking up and brining back the right one.
  9. The power has just come back on - so we lost it at 5.30pm yesterday. Lost several sheets of eves, an outside light and about 35m on fencing - so had the day off today to clean up the mess.
  10. So come on Bully - wheres the photos..... No pics yet Pele was in the car when I went to the post office, so put the 2 bags in the boot for obvious reasons Pele sniffed my hands all over when I got into the car. Surely the rubber smell wouldn't travel thru' a post bag onto my hands? Got the bags out of the boot and had a Bull Terrier hot on my heels Pele was quivering with excitement so I gave her a large i-squeak and she shot outside with it. I only let her have it for a few minutes then confiscated it and hid it along with her other 3 balls (Yes, I'm a mean bitch :D ). Ness's balls were on the kitchen counter so Pele was hovering around there, so put them in the car boot. Now she's going around the house sniffing and keeps going back to the kitchen :D :D Might take a large to the park tonight. I don't think that I'd be able to get her to work for it as she's too OTT about it Thanks Sandi Argh another i-squeak convert
  11. So come on Bully - wheres the photos.....
  12. Me too Dare I ask with Alex or the 199 Novice dog, Snaz????
  13. Great work Rivsky - looking forward to teaming up for Strat Pairs at the Nationals
  14. Stands are top of the list at the moment as we will be hitting the show ring shortly At the moment everything is a work in progress. I really need to start some duration heelwork, have been playing with dumbbell holding while sitting in front without slumping backwards, practicing turns right, left and about turns, front presents, and change of pace in heelwork, also working on steady feet and sit waits (this is something my kids aren't usually ready to tackly until after 12 months of age, but Cider Bear is very different to the rest of them). Have also introduced sit in the hoop/box and last week she was introduced to the baby dog walk and jump humps - so having a lot of fun and to Cider - everything is one BIG game.
  15. I have 4 or 5 sets which I rotate for training but really I only use 2 sets for trialling and there is always a spare set on the shelf for anybody that forgets there's at a BIG trial (not mentioning any names). I actually have a bag of metals that I think I lent Rubystar which I found tonight and was the reason for thinking about starting Cider on scent again. They aren't all knurled and they aren't all the correct length - so they are great for training.
  16. Goodonya Yes I always start with metals - and then go woods and finally leathers. My kids have always found the leathers the hardest. OH and I think from memory the dogscout article says to throw your scented article - well my throwing sucks - so I tend to walk closer and do a little toss or place it
  17. I tried a couple of weeks ago and gave up after one session as she would just run out and bring back the first one she came to - basically she was oblivious to there being more than one article. Tonight I tried and I had the 2 metal articles very close together and all of a sudden it dawned on her that she had a choice - Only once did she bring back the wrong article - out of probably 7 goes - so I will give it another go tomorrow and see what happens. So it is tendonitis of the shoulder due to ball throwing???
  18. Huski - Seita might be able to tell you where she got hers from. Otherwise I know there is a lady you can order them from in NSW. Janet Morrison Animal Care www.obedienceproducts.com Just so you can have a read - for all my dogs bar Lara, my first, I have used the dogscouts method of teaching scent. http://dogscouts.org/Dog_Activ-_Scent_Disc...#Scent_Articles
  19. I was talking to a friend about this today! I would love to train Daisy scent discrimination as I am quite sure she will excel at it but I have no idea where to start or how to do it  Do you have any scent articles?
  20. I started teaching Cider sent discrimination tonight - anybody else interested in giving scent a go and comparing notes?
  21. Team Toller (Alex and Scoota) took out Masters Strategic Pairs tonight - whatarun Those coming over for the Nationals should be scared - really scared Sexi Lexi found a new partner (and a new handler - ME!) and kept all her bars up to take out excellent strat pairs And...................... The OC dog came second in masters gamblers ;) ;) and he was three runs for three passes tonight GoodonyaMoo
  22. For two dogs with OC before their names it was a very uninspiring UD round - both passed, both finished 1st and 2nd, both failed to automatically sit in the box, both struggled with the second scent article when it was placed on top of the poo, one move during the stay stay - hmm BOTH will be training this week I was pretty happy with little Miss i-Squeak came pretty close to passing UD - just needed 2 signals to go to the second box - otherwise she probably would have beaten the two with OC before their names
  23. Huski - Ask to see the Alex round - go on I dare you (I can see Bedazzled placing her hand on her head now and going "OH NO")! :D
  24. Caffy has a brag from last night with her flakey dog - anybody know where I can get a flakey dog from????
  25. I emailed the video I took of the kids when the box arrived to Clean Run - just to let the lady that I have been dealing with know that the balls had arrived safe and sound and to thank her for all her help. They have now asked to put the clips on facebook and I have now named Beans my little I-Squeak after she squeaked her way around UD tonight - I think she has been practicing and now sounds just like a small i-squeak
