Oh cool babies coming soon. Best of luck. Prehaps I'm a bit eager but I've just set the whelping box up in the spare bedroom. I intend on sleeping in the same room for the first week. Big queen size bed and its a nice warm room up the other end of the house away from the kids and main living rooms.

Ok you are scarying me. 14 puppies, OMG!!!! You are right they tuck them up in the rib cage so well some times. I'm praying for 6 or less. Truthfully one healthy female puppy is all i wanted but the others are a bonus and we don't have a shortage of homes waiting.

OMG that would of been a grand suprise. From 4 to 12 puppies gulp... Way i see it either they are pregnant or not. For me the idea of Ultrasounds are so you know that they are in whelp because Phantom pregnancies suck! Agree 26days from mating, around that 4 week mark is the best time for Ultrasound. You could get bloods done too if you have doubts. Lele last litter told 4-5, got 6. This time we were told that he can see 4 definates but be prepared for more as he could see a few shadows in the back but couldn't get the wand near that area. She is the size of a house and still has 26 days to go so I'm guessing that "more" factor is a higher possibility. No matter how he waved the ultrasound wand about sometimes pups higher up or behind others can be missed so numbers aren't always reliable. A really good vet who know his equippment and how to read those results may give a better reading, ours is reasonable but not perfect in ultrasounds. Basically our machine just shows blobs, dark roundish blobs on a black and white screen. Sometimes feces can also be mistaken for a pup, yes i have heard this happening.

Lele's belly day 35. Still a bit wet in this photo as she had to have a bath due to a touch of Diarrhea, yuk... 28 days to go and counting. I swear this is the biggest she has ever been for this duration, boobs are dragging in the dirt and she as the pregnant waddle happening.

So is my girl. Oh you can notice....even hubby went to pick her up and said aren't you just a fatty. Becoming rather protective too, unsual for her but she didn't approve of the gas meter reader.

Last litter we had trouble getting their little mouths securely on for the first few days. After that first week when they are stronger and a bit bigger they handle it ok. She has very large teats for a Cavalier, back ones are slightly deformed but still work, just got to try real hard to get pups onto them. Top four are all large, (not pictured) for 120-180grm cavaliers pup they are a real mouthful. As for worming i did treat her prior to mating. The stud owner recommended me worming her again now as she beleives it reduces the risk of puppies catching them. I said I'll look into it, i usually use Advocate as a general treatment but i see it's not been trialed on pregnant bitches.

Thanks, it just concerns me as she has extra large teats and only a few that are suitable for newborns. Also she is a tiny dog, it's the welfare of the pups and Lele that are my greater concern. She is in tip top condition at the moment and i want her to stay that way. Last litter ultrasound saw 4 with a possible 5th and we she delivered 6. Unfortuantely 2 of those died within 48hrs from birth. Intend on sleeping beside her and hand feeding if it comes to that. Question Jerojath, did you use Advocate on your pregnant girl? I'm trying to what is a safe worming product. She is due for her monthly dose now. I saw you posted a question in a different forum some time ago.

Hi, Good news, Ultrasound this morning confirmed the pregnancy. Puppies are developing well. Minimum of 4, they were definates which were easy to spot but highly likely to be a larger litter as he could see shadows showing further back which he couldn't confirm. Craig saids to be prepared for more up to 7! gulp!!!! Biggest problem will be teats vs puppies, we have 4 good teats and the rest are a bit large for newborns. They work ok but just oversized for little mouths. Might have to express and hand feed if we get a few extra puppies for the first week. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

We are confirmed 4 definates that were easy to spot but shadows which we couldn't confirm which had us concern, highly likely that there is a few more. GULP!!! Poor Lele will struggle to carry anyomre than 4, she is only a tiny girl. We only have a few good teats too so I might be up hand feeding if we get more than what we bargin for. We have decided on Australorps if we do go ahead and get some chooks. Are your Roosters suitable to eat? May be worth killing them . Sorry I don't know my 'chook breeds' too well. I will have Australorps later in the year, supplier of fertile eggs is experiencing molt season which leads to lack of egg laying and fertility. I have 4 dozen eggs owed when they return to normal which i will sell off. Large breed variety roosters make good eating but as for Pekin Bantam they aren't much bigger than quails so they aren't worth persuing for food purposes.

Anyone after Pekin Bantam roosters i have several to give away. They are too cute to kill and they are great little pets. Black ones and Multicoloured.

Glad you have buyers for all of your puppies prior to birth. I'm hoping for a small litter as I'm the opposite, no buyers at all, plus i can cope better with small numbers. It's strange usually Blenheims are the most popular colour as pets but I've got lots of interest in whole colours but none for particoloured. I don't like the idea that I'm going to have to advertise but if we have more than a few, then i guess i may just have to. Fact is I bred this litter for myself, selfish person i am. I want a puppy and therefore i can take what i get and as long as i have a safe delivery and healthy litter i will be happy as Larry. I'll be giving puppies away if we have too many, buy one get one free. haha. No... seriously we should find homes easy enough, it's not about money its the home and i can think of many happy families who would cherish a Cavalier puppy as a pet. I've got a few friends and family who have asked me so never a shortage of homes, just my bank balance are always in debt when it comes to dogs and i don't cover my cost outlay when i give them away. Welcome to the dog world i hear!!! I'm sure the stud owner will have her input on the matter too, she is in touch with alot of people and the stud is a titled show dog so offspring may appeal to those who have seen him perform in the ring and her linage. Not getting ahead of myself, wait and see. Last try at mum duties for dear Lele, she is retiring so if she is pregnant, great, if not then off to be desex. Craig is a good vet surgeon i don't doubt his abilitiy just his people skills. Maybe after so many years of practice he gets a bit over it all.

Howdy, Congrats on the expected arrival Jerojath Last time we ultrasound Craig at the Vetgroup did it. He predicted 4 definates and 1 ? but we ended up with 6 puppies. Yep that was a suprise. 29 days duration at the time of ultrasound, cost me $80. To be upfront and honest I don't have the best relationship with Craig, i find him to be impatient and rushes everything, very short coming with no customer service skills. I much rather Sue or the other girls who show a bit more compassion in their line of work. My doggies are off to Melbourne next Wed for Heart and Eye certification. Fingers cross hubby gets the time off work as I'm not confident to drive through Melbourne with precious cargo on board so I'm sending him instead. I realise i should of done this a long time ago but it's one of those things that keeps getting put off. Appreciate the heads up for the compost cages but I'm waiting for confirmation on the pregnancy before getting to excited. If needs be I've been checking out prices on ebay can get 8 panel 30"-36" delivered for around $60 with a door so if you want the compost cages by all means buy them. Quick edit to say booked ultrasound at Vetgroup again for 20th May, $80 charge.

At what age do you let your puppies go to new homes after you Vaccinate? My vet advises that Vaccines takes up 14 days for it to be fully absorbed into the system, therefore we keep our litters on longer.

Cavalier puppies due 26th/27th June (yet to be confirmed) 2 Matings x 15 minute ties. Ultrasound in a few weeks.

Thanks everyone. My puppy pen is full of rust, i have it outside guarding the vegie patch. lol. Never big enough, 30cms high- just a cheap crappy one. I'll look around Bunnings, sure to find something suitable. Mum has one i could borrow but i rather buy my own and have it on hand for whenever i need it. I hope to confirm Lele's status next month with a ultrasound. I actually don't have any orders/ waiting list for this litter, sort of hoping for small litter. Everyone seems to be seeking whole colours again i have of lots of applicants after rubies and black tans. Always the way, but the whole idea of this mating is so i get a parti coloured female to continue on with as Lele is retiring after this regardless of the outcome. If successful all puppies should be Blenheims. Cavaliers aren't hard to find pet homes for in the past I've never had any troubles so hopefully (touch wood) it's the same again.

Howdy all, Happy Easter, hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I'm back from Horsham, Lele had 2 good matings so I'm crossing my fingers and toes we may have puppies on 26th June. Just wondering if anyone has a 30-36inch puppy pen/enclosure they may be looking at selling? Figure i would ask if any secondhand ones are about before looking at new one. I intend to use it inside my living room so I'm looking for a clean-rust free one.

Howdy all, Woke up this morning to find a trail of blood spots, yep it's finally arrived....Lele has started her heat cycle. Oh the poor girl, she is so swallon and dripping. Called the stud owner let her know in advance as her 10th day will be around Easter. Trust her to pick the Easter holidays. lol. Thankfully she is going to be home and hasn't entered any shows, which was very lucky. We are offically booked in and now I'm going to have to wait it out till she is ready to stand. Last time she came in on day 14, maybe that might happen again so i can spend Easter with my kids instead of taking off for a few days and missing out on the easter egg hunt. Anyway thats my exciting news. Very much anticipated litter of Blenheim babies planned, fingers cross!

It's amazing, full or even part refunds for dogs which have been kept for prolong period of and returned under "behavioral issues" inflicted by the owner. It's ridiculous and you are not alone!!! That puppy is a fingerprint of it's owners, they are the ones which have trained and raised it from infancy. They should be grateful that you are willing to take it back after this prolaps period of time and that you were generous in your offer in compensation. Surely we don't buy a shiney new car and be run into the fence when we back out of the garage and return it for a full refund. You drive a car out the showroom door it loses value, same thing with dogs. Fluffy cute baby puppies are more appealing and request for than adolescent dogs. You will have out of pocket expenses, regardless if you intend to keep the dog or not which also need to be taken into consideration. And as for Behavioral problems, you'll find it's more the owners who have the problems, not the dogs. I think you have certainly been more than generous with your refund and i would be telling them exactly where you stand on the matter.

Thanks for the replies will put them to practise tomorrow. She is a bit of a sooky girl, but what cavalier isn't. She has had her first season, no swelling though but i was aware by the discharge. Tonsils were not checked so that might be something to look at. She does like to be hand fed but i rather not go down that path and think she is going to get that every feed time. Only 2 dogs, mother and daughter kepted in my home. Her mum is a guts and will eat anything hence why i separate them. I've always followed the saying if they are hungry enough they'll eat it, but in her case i don't want her condition to get any worst. Her coat is shiney and every other developmental achievement has been meet but i would like to see 1/2 to 1 kilo more on that skinny body of hers. Back to chicken for a little while till i can get her to her ideal target. Again thanks for your feedback, just what i needed.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. 8 months old. My own bred pup which i hope to run on. Always been a bit deligate eater but she is getting worst. She is going through a growth spurt but the problem is she watches her food but doesn't eat much, if any. Feed separately away from the others so I know what's going in or not. Currently leaving out Royal Canine kibble for her during the daytime which is rarely touch and usually gets tossed to the chooks. Evening meals is i try and encourage fresh human grade mince from the butchers mix with egg and cheese and veg but she turns her nose up at it. All i can get her to eat is chicken and toast with a bit of butter and cheese. Not much of a diet, and she is skinny. Tried vegiemite, sardines, food suppliments, can food, puppy loaf, nutrigel but she still isn't interested. Worming is up to date, vet given her the all clear health wise except they agree she is thin along with the few breeders who have seen her too. Any other suggestions to try?
