    Duke

RIP Duke, Run free knowing you brought many years of laughter, joy and companionship to your best friend. Condolences to you TB and your whole family.
  2. I've heard of these workshops in NSW and VIC but are there any avaliable in SA? Anyone know where I could get such info if there is? Thanks.
  3. Mini Norbs You were not ready for the world May your soul find a more suitable physical form Rascal will wait for you Meanwhile, run free with the other puppies over the rainbow bridge So sorry Rascal. It must be so hard losing such a youngling
  4. Pchelka...been thinking about you a lot lately... The first day we meet Your youthful step As you were given to us Did you even realise The change to come? Little red vixen While we were bargaining for your life You went for a meander around the suburbs In the car Such a new experience How did you react? You sang your heart out (And continued to do so every trip) Loud and warbling Little red vixen I think you believed you were a soprano I laugh remembering your sing-songs We were first time canine owners It was evident from the beginning No crate for you No basket for you No laundry for you Little red vixen It was to bed with me - every night I will always remember falling into dreams with you When it came to eating I never knew anyone so intense about it We did you wrong twice Once you ate the snail bait Once you reacted to our overindulgences (Oh how you loved apples and cheese) Little red vixen You were such a fantastic actress Gave us the works - big, sad eyes, and constant shivering You knew the word for 'walk' How excited you were to explore the world Outside the safety of our den You would bark as if to say; 'Hurry!' You would prance around my ankles Little red vixen And we would walk the streets, the parks, the beaches Stepping high - My pride for you, Your pride for me You watched me grow From child, to teen, to adult I saw the changes in you - from pup to senior But even when the white hairs Overrode the red in your coat Little red vixen You were still the most beautiful girl in the world The best thing in my life I would always talk to you Throughout the good times and the bad I felt you knew what I was saying Even if you couldn't reply Little red vixen You knew, always, when I needed a cuddle You wouldn't leave my side if tears were cascading down my face You had a particular friend for a while A whippet named Prince Oh, how you took advantage of him Oh, how you loved to show dominance Little red vixen You always wanted to be alpha bitch Regardless of the competition, Regardless of your size You loved to lie on the tiles in the sun You loved to curl up on pillows You loved to play tug-o-war with the blanket You loved to bark loudly at the sound of a door knock Little red vixen I loved to teach you, you loved to show me you could be taught Sit, Lie, Speak, Stay, Heel, Come, Shake paw...and our favourite...Roll over You loved to lie on laps when friends came around You loved to be the centre of attention You loved going on holidays with us You loved convincing people to give you snacks Little red vixen You loved me unconditionally Even when I was harsh with you, you always forgave me I always knew when you had done wrong Your greeting would be exaggerated Then the bins were probably overturned Or something was chewed that wasn't supposed to be chewed Little red vixen You knew right from wrong But sometimes instinct and your strong personality took over - and that was ok with me I know I could of done more for you You were never really socialised with other canines You learnt to stay at home during the day Waiting for us to come home Little red vixen But you taught me so much and even in my ignorance I never took you for granted I remember the worst day of my life It was when we were at the park And a big dog jumped his fence He attacked you so ferociously Little red vixen I saved you, I didn't think of my safety I know you would have done the same When you got sick Near the end I felt so helpless So alone Little red vixen When you slipped from me My heart broke It was so empty Without you I needed to fill my heart again With joy Little red vixen I prayed you would understand When my chocolate boy came home A year after your death The phone rang I didn't want to answer My chocolate boy started to howl Little red vixen He had never done that before It was a specific quirk of yours You were my first You will never be forgotten Our bond was special It will never be replaced Little red vixen I hope there is an afterlife So I can see you again To my darling red Min Pin Pchelka I still cry for you Love Paulii
  5. I'd like some recommendations for dog trainers in Adelaide. My pups love the beach and I want to be able to let them run free, but I don't have enough control, they have incredibly selective hearing. Today they ran up to a bear of a man and were wagging their tails and barking happily at him, but wouldn't come when I called so he kicked out at both of them. Really spoiled my day. So yes, please please please help. I must be doing something wrong and I want to be a responsible dog owner.
  6. Thanks for the compliments guys Wolfsong you think up some pretty ace names too! I was thinking about calling my pup Lestat, but your Lestat is so popular already daaaaaamn you *shakes fist in your general direction* Anne Rice generally has funky names for her characters. Is that where you got the name from? Let's see if I can remember her vampires off the top of my head.... Louie Lestat Claudia Armand Quinn Santiago Pandora Marius Mael Khayman Akasha Enkil Laurent Merrick ...ahhh there's more I know it!
  7. Okay so this probably has been done many a time but indulge me please. I feed my dogs BARF generally but sometimes its easier and more efficient to substitute a meal with dried food. However, my problem is what dry food do I use? I hear so many conflicting stories that its hard to decide. For starters, Vets down my way generally stock Advance, Hills Science and Royal Canin but I've heard a lot of negatives about these (are our Vets behind with the times?) Some working dog owners use Coprice, but now it is believed grain is not good for our dogs. What are the grain free dry foods? Is there a resonably priced decent dry food? (As opposed to say Orijen, which seems quite pricey and hard to find) I'm looking for two types of dried, one for toy sized dogs, one for active medium-sized dogs. Thanks!
  8. I would like to try Rescue Remedy. Where can I get it from? Can I buy it in Adelaide or do I have to get it online? Cheers
  9. Cordelia our red merle Koolie Jicin is a rescue. The other 3 have been attained from breeders.
  10. What is this Rescue Remedy and where can I get it from? I hope for my, OH's, Tyche's, Jicin's, Remy's and Jacques' sake you're wrong dogmad. It would be real irony if things turned to s**t just because we had done the right thing
  11. Thanks for replying guys, OH and I will keep a close eye on them and make sure they aren't too 'bitchy' at eachother. I'm sure everything will get better once they can go beach walkies again. I think they might be somewhat bored Oh well, stitches out this Friday!
  12. Hi Shoshana, Didn't realise it was your Rosie who was injured so am sorry it has taken so long to reply. I hope she is doing well and that you aren't stressing yourself out too much. Hopefully you can still make it to the next Adelaide DOL meet but if not we'll definately be thinking of you. If I was in your position I would be reacting the same way. My old girl only had two so called 'accidents' - being attacked in a park when a dog jumped his fence (and whether I had been part of this forum and wrote of it on here would I also be getting 'get over it's I wonder?) and getting pancreatitis (we accept that was totally our fault, bad bad bad diet). While she was with us we moved house twice, the first backyard was many leveled and had stairs going down to our grassy area. Our second house was two storey so there were stairs inside and had a massive retaining wall out back. Plenty of chances for 'accidents' but none ever happened. I consider an 'accident' to be something minor, like a bruised paw, not major like a broken elbow. I am sorry for your and Rosie's pain and hope the day care at least offer to help out with vet costs. Hugs from me, Remy, Jicin, Tyche and Jacques.
  13. Not sure whether I am making a mountain out of a molehill but thought I would present my latest problem to those wise DOLers out there. Last Wednesday our Koolie girls got spayed. We have managed to keep them fairly quiet since then but they have developed a worrying habit. While they were entire they never had any aggression issues. Now they seem to be arking up at any little thing. On Sunday we were relaxing in the backyard on a massive beanbag, one girl clambered over it and accidentally knocked the other girl. Massive bitch fight, more noise than anything - of course they stopped as soon as well told them to - however I'd never previously seen them get so ratty at eachother. Likewise today I was talking to OH over the phone and he was in the middle of feeding them and left the bowls on the kitchen bench, I heard them go at it in the background again - he told them to stop they did. I don't know, I was under the impression that two entire bitches are the worst possible combination, but now it seems I have the opposite to contend with. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem? Also, do you think they are being more 'bitchy' than usual because of the discomfort they are feeling after the op? Aaargghh they are such gorgeous girls and everything was going so well, I'm just hoping its temporary!
  14. I'm sure they are puggy pug, however to a non-breeder such as myself it still doesn't make sense!
  15. Thanks sas, Often we are confronted with many different ideas about how to manage our dogs. It is very confusing for the average dog owner. I believe that sometimes your instincts are right, no matter what people say. I have always thought, and mind you I don't have any biological degrees or anything, that the hormones we all have are there for a reason for growth and development and it would be detrimental to remove them at too early an age. In that regard, I myself wait until my dogs are approximately a year old to desex them and thankfully the breeders and rescuers that have allowed me to attain their dogs have been good enough to take my word for it. Its just a personal choice, much like the dog owners who don't follow up on vaccinations because they believe one course is enough. Oh and I have been told by Min Pin breeders growing is finished once the front legs have no knobbly bits so to speak but I still don't understand this so I wait a year just to be sure LOL. My males have never really had any major aggression/marking/chasing after bitches issues either, so it makes it easier to wait!
  16. Quick update Noticed over the last few days that Jacques has been losing more milk teeth, so maybe he's just a late bloomer. Today I noticed the milk tooth that was in the top front row has gone (thankyou bones, pigs ears and carrots!). Its just the three fangs now. All are shiny white and don't seem to be causing him any problems. I gather since he's only really starting to lose teeth now that they might still budge. Otherwise I'll ask the vet to remove them when he goes in for desexing (unless vet believes they cause no issues).
  17. Thanks IR, will definately do that. He doesn't appear to be in any pain, however he has less hair than the average dog and his skin is dry and flaky. In that regard I am concerned for his welfare during the upcoming summer months where he would be more prone to sunburn. I just want to do the best for him, regardless whether its cosmetic or not. I think dry, flaky skin would be irritating, unfortunately he can't actually tell me whether this is the case!!
  18. Thanks for the replies I've got so far, if anyone else has any suggestion feel free to continue the discussion
  19. No he's not desexed yet. I desex my dogs when they are approximately a year old so I can be confident that they have done all the growing they need to do. He's almost 8 months at the moment.
  20. Jaques has CDA. I've read up on what it is, but I'm more concerned about how to improve his skin/fur. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? Can anyone offer solutions in regards to what I can give/feed/bathe him with to help improve this condition? ...yes he's a reject, but he's MY reject... Thanks.
  21. Hi everyone, thanks for replying. My dogs get bones quite often, a few days ago they were chewing on beef bones and today they got chicken wings. I don't think chewing is helping much, all 3 milk fangs are still white and are not loose in the least, neither is the top middle tooth. I should take a picture, it looks wild (the doubles are lined up quite nicely)!!! Will take him to the vet for a consult.
  22. My Min Pin, who is now seven months old, has a few adult teeth coming through but my problem is his milk teeth have yet to fall out. One fang (bottom right) looks like a double tooth because the milk and adult teeth have come through, now I can see the top fangs are also coming through. He has all of his top middle teeth, but one milk tooth is in front of the adult ones. My question is, are these teeth going to fall out by themselves or should I see a vet to remove them? Thanks.
  23. WoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooW! Thanks heaps guys! (Harminee & iltby) I've been playing around with photoshop too (only got it for 30 days) you guys are profesh compared to me LOL Cheers!!!!! Will add both siggies in my collection and randomly show them off :p :p
  24. Mwahaahaa yes I agree husky princess, poor little Chubby (he was the cutest little Pug too, I thought it was very unfair!). I think I might call my next dog Sahib just for kicks. I might even dress him up in a shumag (male Arab headdress) *imagines a black and tan Min Pin wearing a bright red shumag* *snickers* He would probably have an attitude. Look at me like; "Give me my food, infidel!" ...Waaaah...I really do think of the strangest things. Today I think we'll go along with wolfy names, since the Husky reminds me of the wolf. Wolf Lupe Wolfgang Beowolf Adalwolf (noble wolf - German) Amarog (Inuit for wolf) Arnou (eagle wolf - French) Bhangi (Tibetan for wolf) Biryuk (Molokan for wolf) Cana (wolf cub - Celtic) Cuan (little hound/wolf - Irish) Eyolf (lucky wolf - Norweigian) Faolan (little wolf - Irish, Gaelic) Felan (small wolf - Celtic) Fenris (mythological Norse wolf) Freki (Odin's wolf) Gorg (wolf - Farsi) Ivaylo (Bulgarian for wolf) Kurt (wolf - Turkish) Liekos (wolf - Greek) Louvel (little wolf - French) Lupus (wolf - Latin) Marrok (Arthurian knight thought to be a werewolf) Mingan (Grey wolf - Native American) Nashoba (wolf - Choctaw Male) Onai (wolf - Tamil) Okami (wolf - Japanese) Phelan (like a wolf - Irish, Gaelic - Male) Radolf (red wolf - English) Rafe (shield-like wolf knight thought to be a werewolf) Rule (famous wolf - French, Male) Sandalio (true wolf - Spanish, Male) Tunstall (wolf of Thor - Teutonic Male) Ulric (power of the wolf - English, Old German) Vilks (wolf - Latvian) Vuk (wolf - Croatian) Vukasin (wolf - Serbian, Male) Wulfgar (wolf-like spear - English/Anglo-Saxon, Male) Zayev (wolf - Hebrew) Zeeb (wolf - Biblical)
  25. I understand where you are coming from ellz but in all honesty I'm pretty damn good at English even though I've a Polish background and I definately know how to use certain tones for letters and emails etc. If I remember correctly it went along the lines of... G'Day ....., A minor bump in the road. Jacques has roundworm. I went to the vet yesterday and started him on .... In two weeks I am giving him another dose. Apart from that everything is fine. From (Me) I wouldn't call that accusatory. I'll be emailing soon with updates anyway. The more I read about roundworm the more common I realise it is. Damn shame really. Hysteric of the week goes to my mother which is demanding I find the human equivalent to worming so I don't get them
