  1. Just to let anyone who was interested, the Tracking workshop has been cancelled for this Sunday, due to the weather forecast, will be now held the following Sunday 5th February, contact Lesley Watson if interested. Just out of interest it does not go for hours should be finished by 8.30 - 9.00 am.
  2. They are also going to do training south of the river, so wont mean having to drive to Gnangarra every Saturday either, yipee, especially when I have a retrieving trial the next day.
  3. I will see you there, then Ptolomy and I will make sure I put my harness(s) in the car.
  4. For anyone interested in tracking in WA, - Advance Tracking Club of WA (Inc) are holding "Introduction workshop for Tracking". Join us for breakfast in the park followed by an introduction into the sport of tracking. Where: Sutherlands Park ( Cnr Southern River Rd and Gay Street) Southern River. When: Sunday 29th January 2012 Time: 7.00 am RSVP: ASAP To : Lesley Watson (Head Trainer) Emai: [email protected] Phone: 0429 952 004 Hope to see some of you there, with your dog of course.
  5. Fetchindawgs they are looking great, do they need visitors, warning I am not bring any home with me. LOL
  6. I have sent you a PM, hope it works not done that before. LOL
  7. I was told last night that yes 2 RATG's are being held next year, first one being in March and second one in April, so good news.
  8. it is a whole different ball game isnt it, having to "trust"your dog as they are the ones in charge. Tracking certainly teaches you heaps about your dogs. Enjoy, its fabulous fun.
  9. I think my dried treats are heaps better, I tired him out on some a couple of weeks ago and you would have thought he had been starved, nearly turned himself inside out to get them. I might have to spray him a nice dark liver colour to fit in so she would not know it was me that stole him away, that way she will think I have a new puppy.
  10. Me either, but if he was I would lure him to my place with my extra special treats. :D
  11. Better not be Moo, he is great last night, shame about the handler.
  12. RS just be careful of highly perfumed shampoo's if you are training UD scent work. If you can smell it, imagine how powerful it is to the dogs as their noses are much better than ours. Less soap is very good.
  13. My Taylor use to do the same thing ST, wait for the others to swim out for the ball and then steel it off them. One day she must have thought Selsdon seemed to be having too much fun, so she grabbed onto is collar and he swam a long way out to get the ball with her attached and all the way back. After that she thought swimming was a good idea and was in the water as quick as the boys. Think it just takes some a little longer than others and also could be that they find the water too cold, especially for dogs with very short coats. Good to hear Lulu is getting interested in the retrieve. Sure you will get there with the hold just dont rush it.
  14. Maybe an idea to target the Gundog club or one of the obedience clubs to see if they would run one after their obedience trials. That way it will be at K9 grounds perhaps.
  15. Hey can the WA listers tell me if they will be interested in attending a RATG's if they were held at a Novice and Restricted Retrieving trial? Would run the RATG after restricted is finished probably. Know they are just tossing around ideas at the moment, but make its hard on the judges to go off and judge yet another trial at a different location, when all the judges also have dogs that they train and run at retrieving. Thanks in advance for the replies.:D
  16. TS I also got a renewal after paying mine in August, I rang then and there is a problem in the software, of 800+ that were sent out only about 400 should have been sent. They are working on the problem.
  17. My membership renewal was due on 31/8/11, so went off and paid it which is $80 Ordinary Single, plus $10 Development levy on memberships (AGM Aug 06 - 5 years). When I received my membership card it said it was valid to 30/11/2012, so rang to ask if there was a mistake, but was told by the office they were changing everyones renewal to the same date, mine should have happened a couple of years a go, but got missed.
  18. If your dog is titled in retrieving you are ineligible to compete in RAT. (Even QND title). Not right.... as far as I know any dogs titled in retrieving can still compete in these events. Not many do though. I would re check the RAT rules, it changed in 2010. I can't copy and paste from a PDF on my iPhone but QND is the "lowest" title and both novice snd open tests include that title in the list of reasons for being ineligable. Section 2.3 and 2.4. Here is the quote from the rules and all Retrieving dogs with titles can compete in the Open class. As you can see it say MUST have gained the titles. 2.4. To be eligible to compete in an Open Retrieving Ability Test, a dog must have received three passes in Novice Retrieving Ability Tests or have gained any of the following Titles as defined in the Rules for the Conduct of Retrieving Trials for Gundogs (effective 1 Jan 2010) – DM, CM, QND, NRD, RRD, AARD, RT CH, Nat RT CH, Grand RT CH.
  19. And what happens if they do birds that day???? Change of handler? LOL reach into my bag of tricks and bring out..........THE GLOVES!
  20. If your dog is titled in retrieving you are ineligible to compete in RAT. (Even QND title). I didnt know that and none of them mentioned it, just said as there is no game and no guns they not keen That is entirely fair they would have no interest (even though they aren't eligible), because it appears (to me anyway) it really is aimed at beginners who aren't yet competing in retrieving trials, and as a lead-in to trialling if they enjoy it. Nice intro into the sport And good for Associate dogs who show the potential but because of a piece a paper (or lack thereof) are not eligible to compete. I found out that a lot of retrieving people didn't even know what the QND title is as it had no relevance to them, so an NRA / ORA wouldn't be of much interest Though, I think a dog with an NRD title is actually eligible to take part in the Open Test Can't be bothered checking the rules to confirm.... Any dog already with the retrieving title - QND, NRD will have to do the open Test. Am I going to do it? not decided yet.
  21. And what happens if they do birds that day???? Change of handler?
  22. Your Em is coming along very well TSD. I think it does them good to be doing more than one sport, something they find easier and I find if I have been working on something new and he is finding it a bit difficult if I give it a break do something else and come back he gets it. I went to the K9 grounds this morning and did walking baseball as well, very pleased how he did, so had a play and finished. Got Miss T out and did some obedience with her and some of her DWD moves she was very keen and did some nice work. Then decided I would do some obedience with Rebel as well, not done any at K9 in a long while, he was terrific. Also played the two food game, he just loves it and it certainly speeds up the going out and coming in.
  23. We are going to one up your way on the 30th at Wanneroo/Kingsley??? We (with Rebel) were asked to be part of the tracking demo team. :D
  24. I decided last night to do a little bit of training out the back, 2 birds and he has been getting really good at leaving the second one even when they have been tossed very close to him. Well last night I was not sure what was going to happen as I tossed the 2nd dummy it hit him on the head as he was coming back in, but he was excellent, while he turned just to check to see where it landed he came in still with the first one. Not so long ago he would have gone for the second one.
