Our next Whippet Racing Fun day will be held on November 11th commencing approximately 11.30am at Manningham Greyhound Slipping Track, Stintons Reserve, Stintons Road, Park Orchards (Mel Ref Map 35 B8)
You dont have to be a member to participate although we hope you will have so much fun that you will want to join.
BYO chair, & picnic lunch. There are barbeque facilities there, we will not be cooking a barbeque but will have cold soft drinks for sale.
We will be using a drag lure this time. It's a great way to train a whippet just starting out as it is silent & runs along the ground, unlike the lure at Healesville.
If you have any enquiries email us at yvwrc @ hotmail . com just leave out the spaces.

Far out!! that's terrifyingly high!! Big Congratulations!!!!
Is he a whippet or a cross, hard to tell from the pic. If he's a whippet you have to come to our race days.

I haven't heard of kidney failure being common in whippets. I am so sorry about Digby and I know what it's like to go over and over something like this, wanting to understand why it happened. I dont know much about snake bite but I have definitely heard of animals appearing to recover only to succumb a week or two later due to organ failure :D It's just tragic.

Thanks guys.
Kirislin, i've been taking my dogs to George for 25 years, and he is just a wonderful person.
I agree completely, I was just saying on the whippet forum I always come away feeling happy after seeing George, he is such a great man, a living treasure.
One time I was there & surprisiongly no one else was waiting. I happened to say I had a sore back, he told me to sit on the edge of the bench & pull my shirt up. He gave my back a rub with doggy linament & instructions on what to do when I got home. I only got charged for the whippets

Wow, this is freaky, I've just this minute been posting pics of him on a whippet forum & saying how wonderful he is. I got a fright when I saw this heading, I initally feared something terrible.
I always ring first even if he's not on hols as it's a long drive over there 9333 1602

Almost never & they sleep in my bed!! I honestly cannot remember the last time they had a fair dinkum bath, it's got to be at least a year ago if not more. Actually I can only remember bathing the boys once & they're about to turn 3 this week. If they roll in somthing stinky then I wash that area but otherwise I leave them alone. I still have a bottle of shampoo I bought over 5 years ago. They dont stink & they have wonderful coats. People often comment on their lovely sleek coats. One of the many joys of a whippet.

Well, at least mark you diaries
Our next fun day is set for Oct 7th at the Healesville Greyhound track, commencing 11.30am. It's a little bit different this time as we'll be having our very first members competition as well. The draw is complete for that but we will still have our fun runs which are a great training tool for your whippets so that if you want, they can actually compete in future. Who knows, you could have the worlds fastest whippet!
For whippets who have never chased the lure, there will be plenty of experienced whippets who will happily show yours how it's done.
Oh, our fun days are open to pedigree & non pedigree whippets, when I say non pedigree, they still need to be whippets, but they dont have to have papers.
We will of course have our yummy gourmet snags on the barbie, cold drinks for sale too as well as free, yes FREE tea & coffee. Oh & dont forget our raffle.
The track is in a lovely setting, it's a great social day to meet other whippets & their people & if you have time visit any number of eateries, wineries, galleries etc in the beautiful Yarra Valley.
You are welcome to email us for more information, actually we'd prefer it if you did, because then we can include you on our mailing list. Then if something unforseen occurs we can be sure to notify you.

I apologise for repeating this post but I need to get the word out
To all our whippeteer friends,
We have just been informed by the Healesville Greyhound track manager that the track is not ready for our fun day & members competition this coming Sunday Sept 2nd. It is currently undergoing renovations & he is concerned about the safety aspect as well as there being no toilets at present.
It is with regret that we are forced to cancel our day.
As we already have entry fees & a race draw prepared we would like to keep it for the next day, (to be advised) but if any members would like their entries returned please let me know. yvwrc @ hotmail . com leave out the spaces
We apologise for the late notice but have only just received word from the track manager ourselves. (we had confirmed this date months ago)
Please pass this information on to anyone you might have told, if you can.
As soon as a booking for the track is CONFIRMED I will let you all know.
till next time

I feel very sorry for your fathers dog. I assume your father is not a vet in your country & just did it himself and from the sounds of it did a botched job. Ouch, how sad for the poor dog, that would be agony for him. That is illegal here, you have to take them to the vet.
Yes they can have painkillers after the op as well. Often though they dont need them, just keep them quiet & only lead walk them for a week or so, the vet should tell you all about the aftercare.
Yes some castrated males can still get erections & 'mate' with a bitch although no puppies will be produced. Generally though they loose that desire.

what's the incision look like. If he didn't do this before his op. panting could be a sign of pain.

It sounds like the kids making noise is what is upsetting him by the fact that you say he stays on his bed until they're gone. Perhaps just have his bed in a quiet out of the way place that he can feel safe in without the kids yelling & thumping around him. He needs his own space.
good luck

Hooray, I was pretty sure if you covered her over she'd be happy. All my whippets sleep under cover......feather down doonas in fact. They'd freeze if I didn't tuck them in at night. Hope she continues to sleep through.

Just wondering how this whippet is going. Has the electric fence worked? Hope so.
Linda

Good luck, you are obviously very committed so I hope it works for you all. She's a lucky girl to have owners who care so much, now, how to convince the little fiend.

I have 5 whippets & recently one started jumping my fence after some kangaroos came to visit. Yes you are right, they are sensitive but I took drastic measures & put a temporary electric fence around. It was upsetting to see them get hit & hear them screaming in terror, but they only did it once. Problem has been solved & I have taken the electric fence down. I suppose I might need it if the roos come back but for now they've get the message.
I suppose the other option is to crate for a while but I am not a fan of crating for hours on end, although I can see where it might be necessary, hopefully only as a very short term situation.
Good luck hope they get it sorted.

Well, this had a very sad & rather bizarre ending for me. A person who has been actively stalking me for several years now & found this thread, as I mostly use the same cybername on the forums I am on. She twigged who my friend was after I said how long we'd been buddies. Although she was never a friend to her, (my friend never liked or trusted her) this person rang her & told her that I had written about her here. She pretended to want to help her but if she was sincere she wouldn't have gone about it this way, besides they hadn't spoken in about 15 years & as I said, she never liked this person they were not friends, so a phone call out of the blue must have been very surprising.
I am saddened that this person is so ruthless in her efforts to hurt me, knowing how fragile my friend is to ring her & tell her like that.
I have sent my friend a copy of what I wrote here as I would rather her read it than get an edited version from "the person".

I cant get her away from her dog. Everywhere she goes, so does her dog. The only time he wasn't with her was when her husband was dying in hospital, then she arranged for a friend to sit with the dog the whole time....days. The dog even attended the funeral. They are joined together, inseparable.
