  1. Excellent post, hopefully some ant-BSL crusaders can provide some answers? I already provided my opinion on a better way to go about it......
  2. m-sass, we know how to avoid having our dogs taken away. That is not the point, at least it's not my point. I understand what you're saying, and I understand the law, point is I do not agree with it. You seem to dislike crossbreeds, I could be wrong but that's how your posts come across. The ANKC is not the be all and end all of dogs, and there is NO excuse as far as I'm concerned, to kill dogs that haven't done anything wrong. No excuse.
  3. Whatever you reckon. This is the kind of reply I would be expecting from one eyed anti BSL supporter. Nothing constructive to ad, just there, ready to denigrate anyone they can, even if they have to twist what people say. I told you what my alternative was but you don't seem to have paid that any attention. I think rather than kill random dogs because of the way they look, we should further educate owners about how to keep their dog safely contained and how to socialise it with people and other dogs. That's constructive, is it not?
  4. There YOU are telling me what I am believing, and in the next sentence what you believe me to believe is utter nonsense. What a lovely comment and such a great contribution. Congratulations, well done!!! It sounded like you support BSL which is why I said you. If I'm incorrect in thinking that you can change it to they :)
  5. Fair enough sorry if I misread. I will say though that if someone was breaking into my house and got bitten, good riddance to them. That's what happens when you trespass.
  6. How is the dog supposed to determine whether or not it was an intruder?? Someone was putting themselves over the fence, dogs can't reason that it's only a child. What an unreasonable expectation to place upon them.
  7. I don't think it's so easy to just say there is one solution. My solution would be more education and information regarding dog ownership, esp socialisation. This is what you don't seem to get....the dogs being killed have done NOTHING WRONG. How is killing friendly dogs keeping people safe? Easy answer. It's not. You believe the hysterical media and think that if only there were no pit bulls we'd all be safe. This is utter nonsense.
  8. No one has blamed the kid, just commented on the fact that he shouldn't have been sticking his head over the fence.
  9. I'd like to know how high the fence was. If your dog is going to bite off a part of someone's face if they look over the fence into your yard then you need to have a very high fence with no gaps. True. It makes you wonder. I also wonder if he was with his parents or a supervising adult at the time. The boy was 8. Eight year olds often walk to school or go to the park to play with a ball or their friends by themselves. Some even do errands for their parents. I know, I was just saying it would be interesting to know.
  10. I never said I didn't think the dog should be PTS. I was expressing my sadness over the fact that this was a completely avoidable situation.

  12. So the dog was on it's own property and now it has to die. What a sh*t situation.
  13. We feed chews for heartworm, one dog gobbles them up, the other spits them out, so we break it up into a few small pieces and treat it like a tablet, just pop it down the back of the throat and hold pups mouth closed, while stroking his throat to make him swallow. Our big boofer just sits there and lets us do this, knows its coming, but still will not chew the darn things.
  14. Thanks LizT, yes we went to the vet this morning as I know that while it can look like not much at all you don't know what's happening underneath! The vet said it was a very shallow puncture mark, most likely from them playing rough. Not surprising as they play like demons! She gave us a 3 day course of AB's to keep any infection away :)
  15. Yep, capstar is awesome, then find a spot on/monthly tablet for her.
  16. It's true, when getting our Aussie (found a good breeder in the end), we had looked in the Trading Post also to start with, and OMG, soooo many BC pups for sale, not to mention other breeds. Really cheap, no mention of testing/microchipping etc. Of course there are also good breeders that use The TP and Gumtree to advertise pups, you just have to sort the bad from the good, which isn't always so simple.
  17. I know Steve, not much they can do. Just sh*ts me to tears.
  18. "Breeder"...."Provided over 30 puppies to the store" Breeder my arse....
  19. Thanks rusty :) I know, she's fast asleep next to me right now, couldn't care less
  20. The dogs were inside for a few hours today while we were out and managed to get themselves locked in our spare room. This resulted in a bit of destruction and I noticed that Lili had blood on her back I freaked at first but I've cleaned it now and it's a little cut/wound, pretty tiny. I have cleaned it with some salt water as I couldn't find the bl**dy Betadine. What is worrying me is that I don't know what happened, either she fell on something but I can't find anything with blood on it, so that makes me think maybe they got into a blue due to being stuck in a small space together We're taking her into the vet tomorrow to have it checked out and look at getting some antibiotics just in case this is what happened....they are the best of mates, rarely if ever actually get into fights so I really hope that didn't happen. She seems fine within herself, running around as usual and being silly, eating fine, acting normal around Mosley, but I just feel like a crap Mum Any other tips on what I can do to keep it clean till tomorrow? We'll be taking her to the vet first thing. Thanks for the vent
  21. If the dog was registered in another council area it is legally registered until April '13. I used to work in a pound and this was the law, unless it's changed in the last few months anyway. Yes the dog shouldn't have been at large but even the best owners sometimes have things happen out of their control. Fact is, they made up a bullshit law, and now they aren't even following their own rules. Council rangers acting like bloody vigilantes, it's out of hand and it should not be allowed to continue.
