  1. Sorry to hear such a wonderful animal got such a poor return for its investment. Guide dogs are just gold. Personally I think that such a final wish was selfish, filled with ego ( or poor judgement) and was poor justice for such a valuable animal.

The irony that this dog enabled her to have a life and in reward she took its life from it. :mad

  2. When you have access to a property on inspection, trust me there are many opportunities to snoop. Thats why I in the past have always insisted on being present on rental inspections & house sales.

Pretty much over listening to people complain about how evidence (which to me as a viewer looks quite bad)is collected/debating this while ignoring the evidence itself. It beggars belief! Makes me wonder where exactly some people stand on puppy farming! Funnily enough it always seems to be the same people.

..on a human level people opposed mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse(quite a few) civil libertarians). Yes sometimes cases are proved very innocent but again some cases that may have gone unnoticed have been revealed through this policy. Does it make this policy wrong? Has it not saved many kids?

Personally I think that knee jerk legislation is coming and that the do gooders and those who refuse to define a difference between reputable breeding program as opposed to puppy farmers (though their defence of "civil liberties"..very over-used and full of fear mongering) will be losers in the end.

Which is sad because there are many people breeding quality dogs who are teaching good ownership to new dog owners & supporting them as they learn.

In my opinion, where profit is the motivation above the breeding of healthy, well socialized pups (from well kept healthy parents) such evidence of poor husbandry or breeding establishments will continue. Money is stronger than conscience when one desires it more than regulation.

I am happy to see people willing to stand up for dogs....even programs like ACA .. etc..if you are doing nothing wrong well you should have nothing to fear.

  3. I feel your frustration. I too have an itchy poodle who at 8 mths has bald spots on her forelegs, thinning hair on her hindlegs and bald elbows. For a while she was leaving hair tufts everywhere- thankfully this has eased. She had no result from a skin scraping and the vet suggested I try Malaseb instead of Aloveen. It dried her skin a lot! I stopped it when I saw it was causing her skin to flake.I did see that she once went into a bad cycle of scratching after my son gave her some bacon...her chews/treats are all nitrate high (smoked)processed so that was removed from her diet early on. I have moved her to a raw meat/veg diet with occasionally wheatfree dry. She is going ok. The scratching is less and hair loss is not as evident. Her bald spots havent changed much,no regrowth. Unfortunately improvement seems to coincide now with a change of season. I wonder how significant this is??? As they say above it is hard to define if the variables change.

I intend to keep her on the current regime, my only addition over the last month is sardines in olive oil. Her skin is a bit better for it.

If the improvement changes or fails to progress we will return for skin biopsy & one protein elimination diet.

  4. I was reading a forum the other day that was talking about the provision in NYC that tripods are not permitted to be used in public places. Several people had been fined for this. One point was that only if you were shooting for commercial purposes & thus sectioning off an area it was deemed worthy of a penalty ticket. Another point is that it was implemented for safety reasons...ie duty of care. Though the discussions all different as to why...do we as amateurs have such restrictions in Australia? What is ones duty of care when setting up a tripod in a public place? I see many paid photo tours in the city-all using tripods. For non commercial shooters what is the rule?

  5. Have always had Simpson or commercial sized machines. This time I went for a direct drive (no agitator ) number from LG. It has a glass lid so you can see the clothes spin round....like anyone really cares! It has lint filters on the sides that basically need emptying every wash load...or if you have dogs that shed...each cycle. Good economy on water but I do a rinse on really dirty clothes before wash, so purpose defeated. It does the job, but I do not have shedding dogs.

If I had large breed bedding or a shedding dog Id be investing in a strong commercial machine with a decent gearbox, agitator & wash action.

  6. Mixeduppup...may I ask what sort of tattoos are you speaking of on your dogs? where are they tattooed? Was a gun as used for human tattoos used? When you speak of "in one motion" what does that mean?

I have only tattooed anesthetized animals similar to the way the pigs are branded with a spiked flat head post op desexing.

Certain breed clubs tattoo pups dont they? I assume they are not anesthetized when it is done. Only re-tattooing at an older age(should it be illegible) requires a GA.

I am against vanity tattooing of animals.

  7. I love Easter doggies! I have small dogs...very hard to find ears to fit! Justice's expression looks like me when someone puts soy in my coffee!!! Cooper looks as if to say "I am only letting you doing this because I love you"

  8. My fav is looking down along the neck of the crane to the base unit. The perspective is like ohhhhhhh wow . I often go up full height in the fork basket at work and im great till i span the surroundings then I go the insecurity grab on the rails  all the while trying to look cool & collected outwards so the boys wont give me grief.

Great opportunity, love what you shot.

  9. IMO I believe there are breeders....and puppy farmers. I believe they are distinct by practices. Well socialised temperament tested, health tested animals are bred to produce quality animals, with adequate resources for post sale responsibilty or care... Thats a breeders role.

Churning out masses of fancy pups from animals that are not adequately socialized, have had little testing health/temperament and parents which on the whole will never be seen by the public (in some cases over a hundred dogs)well that is a puppy farm. Whether there is poop on the ground, knots in the fur is simply cosmetic concerns..there is more to a satisfactory bred puppy than that!

Places that churn out pups for sale from large numbers of dogs.. like cakes at a baker sale for profit in front of quality should all be reexamined.

..if you trust the rspca to govern that so be it i guess.

(edit add after I saw replies)I agree that the rules of trespass should apply T. I have not read one account of trespass on a breeders property on this forum (maybe I missed it)nor have I read where a prosecution has taken place of someone doing so... there are alot of breeders on this forum. Is this fear as real for the general breeder of register dogs? Does a person with a few breeding dogs really fear that someone will do as described above?

Maybe Im wrong in my definition of puppy farm vs breeder but it is my opinion. Yes there are always going to be oops litters, byb etc.. but I think where possible more controls should be there for better quality practices.

As for the OT I have not heard of this place where the incident is said to have occurred before now. About or whoever is in the wrong or been wronged will be heard...I believe courts serve justice according to the law, not public opinion.

  10. Personally I acknowledge that trespass is wrong but you know what, sometimes evidence has to be gathered before other process is started or investigations commence. If someone does this they should expect to be prosecuted nonetheless.

Of this story I see two things...some people who are more concerned about how the evidence is collected rather what it shows.

That it is possible for situation where a registered breeder who have registered dogs might well be able to conduct "pet cross breeds"breeding on a scale without breaching any rules re breeder status..as long as the dogs they have registered are not used for the breedings. Would this be correct?

"defending the fact that dog breeders all dog breeders have rights." Yes all people have rights- but I think its well time for puppy farmers and registered dog breeders to be seperately defined. By putting them both under the same gives /takes credentials from one or the other that I dont think should be afforded..this surely would be better, less we have a registered breeder in defending their rights be by their actions securing the practice of puppy farming

  11. Settled on a Manfrotto monopod and a 234RC tilt. When In your hands the monopod is rock solid & would make for a weapon...Im sure it would be a hassle to get it into some events...I once had a plastic poster roll on a strap and often I had to surrender it for "safety reasons" at events.

Thought if I went the basic option I could change later as I felt the need to.

  12. Im not really a fan of the RSPCA. I know of one case where two emaciated horses (one with gaping sores & had been down for a fortnight) both were rescued privately, the person responsible reported. The horses recovered after much care & veterinary attention. To this day no charges have been laid to the best of my knowledge despite documented evidence. For what reason I am unaware.

  13. So are we defending the breeder of xbreds here to purposely make money? Are we advocating that breeders are not considered inappropriate? This guy is a puppy farmer. Breeding dogs to make money. Personally I would like to see his operation stopped. Sure let him keep his dogsif they are well cared for. But lets face it it appears to be BYB on a big scale. I am surprised that when one person arrives on DOL with a pregnant byb bitch everyone jumps on them like a piece of fresh meat, yet we are silent or defensive of a person who may are doing what I believe to be against the majority of this forum.

I am not aware of a state law re "Oscars Law" maybe it is a bylaw passed by council in that region based on the similarly named movement???
