  1. Most activities involve some level of risk. People who do dog sports recognise the risks to their dogs joints that need to be managed, people who live/walk their dogs in bushy areas recognise the risk of snakes or ticks, those who's dogs work in the armed forces know the risks to their working dogs and people who live on the land and have working dogs recognise that there are risks associated with the way those dogs work. it's not about the risks it's about being sensible and managing them, plenty of people drop feed to cattle off the back of slow moving utes and dogs may follow along, that doesn't make them irresponsible, it's the reality of life on a farm, unless the farmer is tearing around the paddock, which they won't be under those circumstances then the risk to a dog who is used to being around slow moving vehicles isn't huge.

    Very well said kelpiecuddles!

  2. Oh they're just so sweet! Those little short faces! So different to mine.

We have an ageing Goldie, and my mum had one years ago - I have such a huge soft spot for them! Our old girl is "Trina", but mum's old girl was "Bonnie" which I gather is a common goldie name like Bella! She came with it as a giveaway from the Trading Post and we never changed it.

  3. Lol, I've heard of that mysterious magnetic field before. Do a google search on "Shoo Tag", I assume the principle is the same. Basically you get the same effect -- which is none, apart from the placebo -- from hanging an old credit card off your dog's collar... Be a much cheaper option for sure. :p

So long as they don't find out what your PIN is...

  4. Love this vet.

Marking and dominance have nothing to do with testicles :)

I can't agree with this. Many dogs that are desexed prior to sexual maturity never commence marking - both dogs and bitches.

Desexing needs to be done at the best time for the owner, whilst still considering health implications. I would never recommend late desexing to someone who may have legal troubles because of it (some councils require non breeding dogs to be done after 6 months of age, and dog owning permits can rely on it). Lilewise I would never recommend waiting to someone who had doubts about keeping their dog or bitch separate from other entires with a potential for accidental breeding.

Everything can be done in moderation.

  5. Wow sounds like a good decision to go early. Must make a difference to recovery when they're not exhausted beforehand. Sounds like you had good support and vet advice too.

You did well to get all your girls!

I bred for a girl and only got three out of 12... And so many enquiries seem to be interested in girls too... :noidea: I suppose it might be easier to choose out of just three!

  6. ... the Sydney morning herald and that's where a majority of their population obtain their 'factual' information from, you would have to expect them to be accurate on legal matters.

:coffeesplurk: Media? Accurate? Most media are there to make a profit. They report things that will do exactly that. You ever heard the old adage - "Don't let facts get in teh way of a good story."?
