  4. I had one of my Labradors flown up from Melbourne to Sydney when she was 8weeks old. I think I used dogtainers. They collected her from the breeder in Toolern Vale and put her on the plane and I went to the airport to pick her up. I could have got them to deliver her to me, but I wanted to be there at the other end to smooch her!

She was absolutely fine, it's a short flight and I think most pups at that age are fairly oblivious to things... Well mine was anyway! Lol

    Thank you.....

  5. Hi,

I am looking at buying a puppy from Melbourne and will need to fly it to Sydney

Have been told Jetpets are great.....has anyone done this with a 9 week old puppy?

I am concerneded that a baby flying may be in danger of picking up something...?

    Yes I m extremly paranoid...heheheh

  6. Thanks Lillypilly and Mita.

My only what-if is whether he would have preferred his old wandering life, but he didn't seem to miss it and adapted to being an inside dog very quickly. When he was still walking a bit (then carried a bit then walking a bit) we went past the end of the street we think he came from, and he stopped and looked and pondered - but then happily kept walking with us.

Cynthia, if you still look at DOL - this is the thread I threatened a few months ago. I said you were an inspiration!

I did the same thing a few years ago with little Grandpa...Pa for short....

He had 4 months of love and knew that we were here to give him the bestest time in his final ÿears"....

very rewarding for him and me.

  7. Clyde, the vet said he was a rag doll... He may well be just a fluffy kitten to be honest, I can't say for sure.

Efowler, I will pm you tonight when I get home from work. If you want to chat to your foster cater and see what she says that sounds like our best option so far (keeping in mind he may just be a white fluffy kitty, I'm not sure if there's a way to tell for sure?)

I would say your vet is right by your pics...same beautiful coat as my pedigree raggy.......he is a red point where mine is blue...what a sweetie..

thanks for looking out for him...Raggies are completly inside cats....always...no road sence or preditor fear.....they are easily killed by dogs ......

good luck with his new home they are very lucky to have him...

  8. I lost my sweet old girl Jen Jen last week.

Jen was the second of my adoptees from Senior Dog Rescue. She had been rescued from the pound in an awful state, practically bald and with blackened, crusty skin. The marvellous folks at Seniors put a huge amount of time, effort and love into rehabilitating her, and eventually her lovely coat and her sweet but feisty personality came to the fore. I adopted her two years ago, and she stayed with me for her retirement years.

Jen Jen didn't care much for other dogs, but she loved ear rubs and cuddles with her person, enjoyed wombling around in the garden, sniffing the breeze, and loved to snooze away the day out on the verandah if the weather was pleasant. She was a lovely, quiet, undemanding companion.

I remember little Jen Jen and was so happy when seniors were able to get her....sad for your loss.

  9. Is Barney able to get to Sydney before his owner leaves?

She probably could have or organised someone else to do so but I am the phone to his owner (bawling her eyes out) as I type and a lovely foster carer from CARA has a space for him..

Thanks everyone for the messages and calls - it looks like the lad is OK...

I sent another one as I have a couple with a little shihtzu x who are looking to add to the family....if we can get him to the wyong with a current c5 certificate I can have hi here ......

If he has care with cara thats great....but if he needs a forever home....this may be it.

  10. Here is a quick blurb on Barney from his owner:

Barney is a miniature poodle and was born on 9/2/2006 – which makes him about 6 years and 5 months old. He is a desexed and microchipped male dog, and his C5 vaccinations are up to date. He currently is on heart worm tablets.

Barney loves other dogs, babies, kids and people, and is a very very sociable dog. He is most definitely housetrained, and is great at going to the toilet when and where he is supposed to - he will pee on command before going on a car trip or coming inside. Barney is quite obedient, but also is very loving, and all who meet him describe him as somewhat of a character.

Barney has been getting clipped regularly since he was 3 months old, and has a groupie following on the live stream the groomer runs – many people log in just to watch him sing and ham it up with his groomer.

A morning walk is what makes his day, and he is quite happy to just chill out most of the day after this. At night he will either sleep in his own bed, but if allowed, loves to cuddle up under the doona too.

I can't seem to save the pic she sent but he is black and has a groovy haircut...

    sent you a pm..........:o)

  11. This topic has probably been done but I couldn't find it. I would like to go away occasionally but now that I have Charlie and Jasper , toy poodles, I need to find a boarding kennel. I heardthere is a good one on central coast but couldn't remember name. I have a lovely lady that walks them when I work but couldn't have them overnight. Have no relatives to help out. Mum stayed when we went to Hawaii last year but had problems with the 2 boys ( adults? NOT). and went home. Took Charlie with her to her unit. Can't do that anymore mum is 80 and I have jasper as well. Don't have anyone I could ask so best choice would be to board them for a few days.

  12. I know how much you loved your little Taz, Jane, she had your heart from the beginning. She finally knew love and safety.... she was blessed when you came for her. She knew she was loved when she left, because of you.

Thank you for what you did for her :heart:

So very sorry for your loss of taz Jane but happy she knew love and a kind caring home....thanks for all you do..

  13. I know that Deb from Just Like home Pet Resort on the Central Coast did a few pug rescues last year. She maybe able to point you in the right direction.

She is a DOL member but i cant remember her user name. Sorry.

    Hi Guys...

Yep I help out with a few rescues...Pugs are my thing and Cockers but we have 2 bischons coming into the resort till they find their forever home next week...(we have gotten a little quieter here thank goodness).....christmas mayhem is almost over.......so it opens up a foster spot for desexed vaccinated surrenders as we can only help after quarantine period (we dont foster straight from the pound for obvious reasons)

I am happy to help with any rescues that need it.....

Looking forward to chatting with this lady.

    Thanks for thinking of me.

Oh by the way I do get here almost every evening but I dont comment much...:o)

  14. Tommy was a hard working, hard living Irish miner. He travelled the world working the mines, he spent many years in Australia at Laverton and Wittenoom too, eventually retiring to Perth.

Jessie was a feisty silky terrier that was bought as a companion for Tommys wife, Jessie thought different and she stole his heart and became his shadow. Wherever he was she was right behind, she helped keep five grandchildren in check and taught them how to treat four legged friends. Allways up for an adventure, the car could not leave without her. She kept Tommy company when he went to the club, even having her own bowl for a (much watered down) beer, they would have their two beers and a chat and then snore away the afternoon in the chair together. Jessie was even known to sneak into church on occasion when she got bored waiting for him.

Jessie turned 12 early last year and was slowing down, but then so was Tommy. The spectre of Wittenoom had caught up with him and he was told his time was short. Shortly after this news, Jessie got very sick and he was told her time was up, in June, it was with much sadness that Tommy gave her her wings.

On January 1st 2012 Tommy passed away, I know that Jessie was there to welcome him with barks and kisses and perhaps even a beer to cross the bridge together.

Tommy and Jessie's ashes are to be buried together in the memorial garden in the church they both attended.

RIP Uncle Tommy and Jessie :rainbowbridge:

May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand. ~Irish Blessing

Beautigul........I wish every fur kids could have such a life...:o)

  15. Thankyou guys. Today has been an awful awful day tragically losing our beloved Gillie.

Gillie came into our lives 6 years ago from Somersby RSPCA, we knew instantly that he was the dog for us. Gillie was an irreplaceable heart-dog who has left a massive hole in our family.

Gillie loved everyone and went through life with an unshakeable belief that everyone loved him. It was always hilarious when Gillie would greet a new dog, walking up to them in a bubble of complete bliss "ooh I love you", the other dogs reaction was usually a stunned variation of "what-on-earth-is-that!!!"

One of Gillie's favourite activities was to get clipped. As soon as he heard the clippers he would run up and beg, then he would lay back in bliss when it was his turn. I took him to a grooming class once and the teacher insisted that he must have a heart condition, he was doing such a good job of looking unconscious  .

Gillie was the reason that I started rescue all those years ago and his legacy will go on. Miss you Gill, forever wouldnt have been long enough.

So very very sad for you but so happy you started in rescue..:o)

You are a great support to may groups...

    Hugs..

    Deb

  16. That may be what the OP wants. A lot of kennels are like that anyway.

That's actually what I was thinking- I wouldn't trust it, but I'm sure many kennels operate like this in reality, despite what they advertise as doggy nirvana while you're on holiday..

Yes they all make it look like doggy heaven, but they're all just a business there to make money.

I will be calling one kennel Monday and see how i go / If they are prepared to take him, i'll give him a trial run at

the kennel for a couple days and see how it goes before i book a longer stay.

I actually have a kennel in NSW and take small / medium dogs.

We offer hands on all day and I am quite offended at the pointed comment.....

Yes they all make it look like doggy heaven, but they're all just a business there to make money."

I think you should look around and see some uomarket facilities before you make such a general comment.

  17. You are joking Steve, right? I for one am sick of reading all these very long posts, denouncing those that are trying to help animals in need. Smoke and mirrors? It's a shame you don't give credit where it's due - do you think that all the people that rally against puppy farms have no brains? How insulting.

I'd like you to have been present today when a lawyer spoke very eloquently about what she is doing to fight against the laws that don't protect animals from unscrupulous people who use them to profit from misery.

And councils DO approve puppy farms, they just don't call them that.

And is there anything wrong with back to back breeding? Of course there is, it is not in the animal's health interests, perhaps you'd like to talk to my vet regarding dogs that were recently rescued from a puppy farmer and treated (all had ear infections, some had skin issues, one had a serious medical issue that required $1000s to treat and they all needed dentals and desexing of course). Their insides were a mess. Some pregnant ones were picked up at the same time (sold by the puppy farmer to members of the public, not by "animal liberationalists"}. The dogs were all sold to people and they were encouraged to breed from them again to sell to petshops, a "nice little earner". The pregnants dogs had their front legs painted so the puppy farmer knew which ones were pregnant. It can be hard to keep track when you have so many. No idea who the father(s) were either as they were all left to run around together when on heat ....

You are right that Deb shouldn't have had to BUY Oscar back, very right. He should never have been returned to the puppy farmer - did you read about the condition he was in? What he was suffering? Completely inadequate and inept laws saw him returned to the cruel situation he'd have to survive for another 18 months. Dogs don't live that long and they certainly don't deserve to spend their lives reproducing and suffering medical issues that aren't treated. Is it OK for a dog to have a Grade 4 dental?

•Grade 4—Severe tartar, periodontal disease, and oral pain are present. With grade 4 patients, tooth loss is imminent. OSSVH recommends dental X-rays to fully evaluate bone loss and tooth health.

What about ear infections? Being matted with their own faeces and urine in their coats.

ANYONE who breeds from dogs left in these conditions really needs to be stopped. I simply don't care if it is puppy farmers, back yard breeders or registered breeders - they are all guilty of cruelty and neglect.

A dog is a companion animal - it isn't for farming. Full stop.

Well said Dogmad...we just got a lovely little pug in who had lived in a cage all her life bred and bred ...then disgarded on a popular site and she had her Uterus and vagina hanging out....through prolaps......I was appauled......and this person breeds for profit in a backyard situation....discusting...

She has now been desexed and has a wonderful new home.....

Oscars Laws should be approved as a Law.....to protect the voiceless ones who cant defend themselves...

  18. 2 weeks ago one of my lovely clients who boards here at our pet resort was dragged under the fence and injured so badly she died later that day....he beautiful brother still sits by the fence where he last saw her dragged under...!They were the nicest most social dogs I have met.

The owners never apoligised and just didnt have a reason for keeping 2 such savage dogs....

The story was in last weeks paper and I have heard that they were embarrassed and put the larger more aggressive dog to sleep.

Rangers could not do anything as it happened on private property and Simba was found on their side of the fence...( a neighbour saw her dragged under but wont testify to this)

These 2 dogs had killed several pet rabbits in the past few weeks and bitten a lady.....nothing had been reported..

If Simba's owners knew the type of neighbours and their dogs they had they wouldnt have left them in the yard at all...

So sad for all concerned......the ppl dont even live at the address at the moment...just pop by to feed the dogs..???????????????why have them.?

I think its time for a community drive to let ppl know if there is a dangerous dog in the neighbourhood...
