Hagrid & myself had a wonderful day. A BIG thankyou to Dave & Jeff & all involved. Cant forget the wonderful dogs .... Tuppy, Rosie & Scout. For a novice like myself it was truly amazing watching them work. Also thankyou everyone there for the encouragement that Hagrid & myself received. He maybe a pitbull, but all you wonderful ppl there today saw him as a dog first. Dave a special big thankyou for allowing us to join in.

As a pitty owner i can vouch that they are very protective & territorial. Heaven forbid any person who may attempt to wander on my property whilst im not there. The low growl & barking sends shivers up my spine.

Prey Drive Control & Focus..

I havent as yet tied up Hagrid. all i've done so far is tease him with his ball...get him all excited & then make him work for me to release the ball. the way we do it at training is excite the dog up with the toy so make sure the toy you have is something your dog wants. After abit of play you stop. The word i normally use is enough & the toy goes under the arm. Its very easy and can be effective. If my foundation is better does that mean Hagrid's prey drive will overtake his nervousness if he's too close to other dogs? -
Prey Drive Control & Focus..

k9 Since i've started working Hagrid in prey drive i've noticed a huge improvement with his focus, confidence and overall behaviour. We are onto the heeling now (with a few jumps added in) its not perfect as yet but we’re trying. Over the past few weeks im doing the same at training classes. Rather than using treats im using his ball. He is now less distracted and his focus on me is really impressive. Most times he will do anything for me to throw that ball in mid air for him to catch. The times he wont is normally my fault & im too close to the other dogs. The other change ive seen is that he just wants to be near me all the time. If I move so does he. He’s quite happy to leave whatever his doing & comes to my feet. Even his high valued hoof gets dropped. He gives me a few licks & then just hovers around me. Is that what im after? (not the licks) Would I be seen as high value to him? Hopefully you can help me fine tune this at the worshop if im on the right track -

Socialisation & Neutralisation

K9 Its me normally trying to keep up with him lol... Ok this may sound like a dumb question .... If he gets no prey satisfaction from riding yet just loves to do it and can ignore whats happening around him... what is it then? (and its not trying to keep up with me) -
Socialisation & Neutralisation

K9 Boofhead does that when out riding a bike. Would that mean that he sees the bike as prey statisfaction or he's neutralised. -
awww thats so sweet but i dont live anywhere near perth

thanks mjk05 thats actually a good idea taking along printed stories. I know all it will take is 1 incident for things to go belly up but im going to stay positive. His behaviour at training is pretty good so hopefully i can carry that over into agility. If he has to be muzzled so be it as long as he still enjoys it. thats something i would love to see but no for a fact that i can never let that happen

Can ask those who participate in agility whether they have any pitbulls in their clubs? The reason i ask is that in a couple of weeks i've organised for my boofhead and myself to go down to a agility club to have him checked over. When i called them to chat they did say that they accept all breeds. When i then said "pitbull". "Ummm" was there 1st response then i got a "yes" I have no idea where this will end up but i do know when boofhead has a play on agility equipment he just looooves it.

I will be taking boofhead also. Haven .... Lablover does has a few crates if yr dog needs time out. Last time she offered me one for boofhead when we went off to lunch at the pub (Steve i hope you've allocated an hour for that ) -
I noticed an immediate change in me samoyed when she was desexed and not in a good way. Tried talking to my vet who wouldnt have a bar of that notion. Have since moved and even the new vet doesnt believe that. Does anyone have any links to literature that desexing females can increase aggression and hormone implants can relieve some of the symptoms? Would love to be able to go to the vet and say see.... hormone injection now please

LuvMyBC I can vouch for 4paws. I know its abit of a hike from werribee but on the freeway its not too bad. Its worth travelling that bit further & going somewhere reputable and to trainers who know what they're doing and are passionate about it.

K9 Force Victorian Workshop

YB im completely on the other side but if you can get to somewhere central i can pick you up on the way & drop you off -
Mine does the same thing. Runs & passes the ball before doing a u turn. I put it down to that hes moving too fast & only when he passes the ball does he realize that he's actually passed it.
