As a dog owner snakes scare the life out of me. I manage four dogs, to be honset and IMO it is not the fault of our dogs as they are curious creatures and prey drive is part of being a dog. If something moves my dogs are onto it and I think that is fabulous. My horses will move away from a snake and unless they step right on them they are pretty much ok (as I keep the paddocks short) Snakes are a worry for dog owners at this time of year. The WIRES people said to me "snakes are damaged/killed/injured mostly by dogs" I agree, though seriously if the snake in my yard yesterday had bitten one or all four of my dogs I would have been up for between $3,000 - and $10,000. I can guarenttee WIRES would not pay the costs. I know it is not the snakes fault and I do not want to hurt anything EVER though the snake in my yard came back three times. If I was completely into snakes I would be working my backside off in trying to educate and support the public. By support I mean hands on support and removing/handling snakes if that is needed.

Snakes give me the willies and I am not sure about the year of the snake or what that means. I have taken the life of snakes when my dogs or kids are under immediate threat though through your posts and education snake catcher I am trying/learning to understand these creatures. Dont get me wrong, I will never love a snake and I had a totally stupid snake yesterday. I am really glad that you are a memeber of DOL and I have learnt a lot through your posts. You have a tough gig on DOL though Thank you :)

Ohhh, the thought has crossed my mind more than once Pers Annie and Dad have always been soul mates. It might be selfish though honestly I hope Annie fights and gets through this as she has such an enormous amount to give and Annie has the life of her dreams ahead of her with Mum. My Mum and Dad's entire life revolves around Annie, she is cherished beyond words. Dad and Annie have always had a very intimate bond, esspecially since Dad's illness.
-
Thank you, it will all be ok I have been very distracted. Annie my Dad'd heartdog is now fighting for her life. I can not stand ticks or this. I have spoken personally with the vet, she is doing everything in her power and Annie has the best care/treatment available. Annie is under 24 hour care. Mum has just lost my Dad, to loose Annie would be terribly cruel. Annie was meant to be there for Dad tomorrow, I just hope she gets through this as she is 13 years old.

It has been a comination of things to be honest. There has been very little activity for months in the house yard as I have been travelling back and forth to spend time with Dad and the dogs come with me. It is over 8 hours of driving daily, and then time with my parents etc. I leave early am and am not home until dark. Combine that with the lack of yard work etc and I have to say I am not suprised. Seriously, it probably has more to do with my own stuff/stress than the snake. I deal with snakes at home a lot. I just do not need a snake to deal with right now. If he went away the first time I turned him back I would have thought "Shit" not good, though the stoopid thing kept coming back, again and again. I have my Dads memorial service tomorrow so this is the last thing I need, I just dont need the stress and worry. I would love someone to come and remove the snake though I know another will just take it's place. It comes back to the same thing every year, I have to just "manage" the whole lot. Wires have been out, I went through everything with them and they were suprised he kept heading up to the house after he had been disturbed a number of times. They looked at the house etc and they think he lives under the house and is going through the circulation gaps in the brickwork. I nearly died as the gaps are so small. Apparently snakes flatten out and can fit easily through the tiny gaps. Needless to say I am still freaked out though I will have to deal with it all after Dad's memorial service. One thing at a time.

Yes he was fantastic, a great help. No sign of the snake today, I hope he has moved on, he was after something though. I started on the lawns yesterday, hope that puts him off.

Your welcome Nic, hope they can be of some help to you. Thank you so much Caz :) we have been in touch and will touch base again am. Doggies have all been out for a fang about on the longline just to be sure. So I guess all is well for now Thank you so much Katdogs, I will let you know how we go Bloody snakes!!!!!God they give me the S*#ts!

I am really sorry that I have not replied to other posts, it is not that I don't want too it is just that things are insane atm. I will let you all know how we go and for goodness sake please be careful, snakes are well and truly out and about. Dont risk anything. If I had let my dogs free roam I would not have known the stupid thing was hanging around.

Ok, I will get onto that. Thank you

That's right, and risk being bitten, well done. Have you got a snake catcher yet? I can post on the forum I'm on and someone will come out, or will know of someone to ring. RBB are beautiful snakes, and besides, it's illegal to kill or injure wildlife. If you can get someone to come out I will be so very greatful Caz. I do not want to kill anything though OMG. Seriously if it was only the STUPID snake I had deal with that would be fine. I have so many other things going on atm. That is my own/family stuff and the snake is not at fault though FAR OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want the snake gone as HONESTLY I am not able to manage anything else atm. I have to leave for my Dads memorial service on the CC on monday. I have spent all day trying to moove the stupid thing away from the house yard but no it comes back in! I have spent the rest of the day trying to snake proof (safely) the areas it is heading toward. It is 45 at least here and I have spent hours trying to do something other than killing the bloody thing. I will be outside for endless hours yet. Sorry to vent, though SHIT! I have called every possible person and at this stage I think a shovel will ease my mind until I get back onto my feet and at least my dogs and kids will be safe, even if only for a little while.

Yes, we spoke at length and Rob is such an amazing fellow though I am still stuck with this snake.
-
I agree, they are all so busy and seriously this is the last thing they need to worry about. The Police gave me the 1300 number which I called. I am waiting for the National parks people to call back, RFS put me onto them. They are all volunteers and do an amazing job. It will be fine, it is just freaking me out as this snake keeps coming back to the house and I have to assume it is either after something (water, food etc) or it already lives close to the house. The idea of living close to the house seriously freaks me out
-
I don't want to kill anything and I have honestly spent all day trying to give the snake a chance to leave. Why is he coming back over and over again??????? Seriously this is the last thing I need at the moment. My dogs are safe and thank god I have great recall. I never ever let the dogs out without a yard check (maybe I an soft with one dog at a time every now and then) and supervision though seriously this is out of hand. To be honest I have far too much going on and I am flipping out as this is the last thing I need.
-
Yes, it is $250 an hour.
-
I have Kavik! ALL DAY!!!!!!
-
It is tough with WIRES and snakes as sometimes there aren't any available volunteers in the area to help, but if you say that the snake has been there for days and keeps coming back and you know where it is, they will come. Some locations have several very good snake handlers who will go check out all snake calls and some locations don't have as many. Wires have been great via phone and are doing the best they can Kavik. It is just a really tough time of year and Wires is volunteer based.

^^This particular person has just started work today, so probably can't be of any assistance. I don't know any snake relocaters in NSW I'm afraid. Try calling 1300 REPTILE (1300 737 845) as it is a 'National' contact number. Adam there has catchers located in many areas and may be able to help. If not, he may know of someone in your area. I spoke with them this morning Jeropath, though it is $250 an hour and they might be here for days. Thank you though :)

Sorry, the bugger has been back again, this is the third time. He/she must be looking for something.... I have called Wires, Fire Brigade, Police and every single other person I can possibly think of. Thanks Alyosha, I put water out not long after the first visit, early am. What else is he looking for? Seriously, I do not want to hurt anything though this is stuffed! I have given him every single opportunity to go away and he keeps comming back?????????? By the third time I was yelling YOU ARE GOING THE WRONG WAY! Anyway I have tried everything though I will not risk my dogs and kids. Probably a mistake as you only have one chance to kill a snake and you need to get it right, though I have my long handlde shovel at the back door and next time he is in trouble. To be fair I have not been home very much for months as my Dad has been so unwell/died. There has been very little traffic here in the house yard, perhaps that is part of this. Either way, if I have a choice between my kids and dogs and a snake I know what I have to do.
-
Sorry, but S#*t I have been dealing with a snake since this am. RBB and huge. I have done everything I have been told, let it settle for a few hours and it will move away blah, blah, blah but the bloody thing keeps coming back to the house over and over again. I have been watching it for hours, every time it comes back toward the house I bang on the ground to get it to turn back to the paddock and go the other way. It turns away, then hides, comes out and then comes right back. The thing is it only has to go about 10 ft to enter the paddock, dams etc, it has so much further to travel to come to the house. I have called all of the people I can to catch and relocate him/her though they are all on holidays etc. Does anyone know of a snake catcher in the Hawkesbury NSW area? I am freaking out. Dogs etc are all safe, thank god I have good recall, it was a close call for one of my dogs in particular.

Melanie Norman must be giving this twit advice. She loves to steal photos, register names (even DOL names) and rescue groups names just for the hell of it. She is also useless at rescue, though good at pulling in the dollars on the back of impounded animals. She is also very good at blaming everyone else and HATES it when something is made public. Her eyes must be popping out of her head reading all of this Pfft. Morons.
