  1. I would think that person was some sort of a professor? Has it been checked for CEA?
  2. I may get Deshonko to look into breeding a teacup Doodlehound for me.... but I want a pink one.
  3. I would still be questioning the cause of excess tears. Are there any distichia or ectopic cillia? It is rare that there is no cause is found for excess tears. Occasionally they can have "lazy" tear ducts. I would still avoid daily doses of chook antibiotics. (It kills the bacteria that cause the staining). Perhaps a trip to an ophthalmologist might be worthwhile? (Sorry to be an Angel Eyes cynic.. )
  4. Opposite at the local park tonight: 3 x Deerhounds 2 x obese whippets 1 x poodle x lab 1 x poodle x cocker 1 x terrier x 1 x mastiff x 1 x poodle x schnauzer (attempting to mate with all of the above)
  5. Just wondering if anyone has any results for the show at Darnum today, especially Deerhounds and Borzois? I couldn't get there
  6. Do they test for PRA? Both Poodles and Cocker Spaniels can be affected by, or carry the gene for PRA. Does she want a dog that is blind at 4 years of age? And do not accept "oh, both parents can see just fine"...
  7. Congratulations! Sounds like you had a great day. :D Any Group 4 results (especially Deerhound and Borzoi)?
  8. Another vote here for Deerhounds. And we would LOVE to see more in the show ring!!! I live in inner SE suburbs in Melbourne if you would like to meet three of them. ETA: they are Scottish, so your Collie will understand the accent
  9. I would like to thank you all for your support. We are doing well today (apart from the realisation that the bottle of red I opened to toast Toby's life with was worth even more than I thought. Ooops, but he was worth it). It is very odd not having him around the house. Or constantly screaming at me for food. I keep thinking I see him out of the corner of my eye. The dogs seem OK; Elfin is a bit clingy and was quite "down" this morning, but is a little brighter this afternoon. Thank you again for all your kind words; it is so comforting to know that there are others that can share your grief.
  10. You are all so nice, you just made me cry again.
  11. Thank you tlc and Crazy Daisy. I got Toby when he was about 2 days old. I was working at a vet clinic in Perth that did all the euths for the surrounding pounds. It was kitten season and I had euthed about 20 kittens that day. Toby was the last one to be done, and I just couldn't do it. He was sooooo ugly! I bottle raised him and he repaid me back 10-fold with his company, love and pure "working ability" as a mouser in my stables. He had a great life and a peaceful end.
  12. Thank you, fifi. Toby was 17 (he looked about 6!) and his heart just couldn't keep up anymore. One of my dogs (Elfin) is being a bit smoochie with me now, but she has always been incredible at picking up on my moods, so I think she is more worried about me than about Toby. I will let them see him again in the morning before he gets picked up for cremation.
  13. I am writing this through heartbroken tears. I have just had my lovely old cat put to sleep at home on his favourite bed. Anyone that has been to Animal Eye Care in Melbourne would have met Toby. Toby and my dogs (in particular, my oldest dog, Bernard) were all best friends. Every morning the first thing they would do is go and find Toby and give him a good morning ear-nibble. Any time he has gone away (staying at the vets, etc) Bernard gets very depressed. After Toby had passed away, I let the dogs in to see that he was gone. They all ignored him, and didn't even sniff his body. I have now wrapped Toby up in a blanket as he is being collected tomorrow for cremation, but is there anything else I can do to help the dogs cope? I am coping by drinking a very expensive bottle of red. Good night Toby, and thank you for being a good friend, a soft pillow and a top mouser.
  14. I certainly do not want to trim, or have clouds of chalk billowing out from my dogs coat, but I was wondering what I can use to put a little texture back into to a slightly limp coat after bathing? ETA: She has correct coat texture, but if I didn't bath her, the judge would be picking bits of dead possum etc out of her coat. She is not the cleanest girl in the world...
  15. Tried Plush Puppy Ruffy Tuffy spray; I don't really like it. I like a lot of the other PP stuff, though. Her coat just goes a bit limp and flat after bathing (and I am using shampoo for coarse coats). I am after a crisp coat, not a harsh coat. I would bath her a few days before show (rather than the evening before) if I had the choice, but she paddles in the mud/swims in the dam/makes friends with dead things on most days.
  16. Ummmm... OK? But I could use a spray such as Plush Puppy Ruffy Tuffy?
  17. What would be the best chalk to use to add texture?
  18. Hello O short one ;) Good luck for tomorrow and dont forget to not make a total dick of yourself, keep that arm still Well, the arm must have not been to distracting, we got Junior in Group!
  19. Yes! It was me, if I was the one boring to death the poor woman that told me she had an Afghan!!!! I suspected a couple of people I spoke to were DOLers, and when I finally plucked up the courage to say "are you on Dogzonline?" to one lady, she stared at me blankly and shook her head. (Note to self: must get name tag that says "Elfin" to wear to dog events!!)
  20. We are just about to head off to the Expo. We are on the Deerhound breed stand today. Showing tomorrow. Please come and say hello! (I'm the short one )
  21. Elfin Hang onto those figures we are going to need them. Our survey is showing similar things but I doubt they are going to believe our stats without thrashing us a bit and you are in the perfect spot to supply a follow up. Is there any way you can keep track of the stats for us for a while longer? By the way - you're beautiful and I was truly glad to meet you in the flesh. Julie I was nervous about meeting you... Of course I will keep track of the stats...
  22. I thought I heard Kate say she had bred 3000 dogs.... at which point my head actually exploded. I would liked to have asked if she tested her breeding stock for PRA. I know she is a vet, but from daily experiences, I know many, MANY vets cannot diagnose advanced PRA, let alone early PRA. I wanted to say that in the two weeks preceding the seminar, we saw just over 80 pedigreed dogs for ACES eye screening. Not one dog presented with a hereditary eye disease, thanks to the years of hard work by responsible breeders. In this same period, we saw nine "F1 hybrid" dogs (deliberate Poodle crosses, usually with Cockers, Schnauzers or Labs) with PRA. Not one of these dogs was over 4.5 years old. One also had cataracts. But my head had exploded several times over and I could not form a sentence...
  23. I have just returned from the seminar, but I am not eloquent enough to give a decent report... Needless to say, there was a bit of , one or two ;) , the occasional and not nearly as much from the audience as I thought there would be. Most of the speakers spoke very well, even if I disagreed with a few points that were made. The audience was very well behaved, considering. Lunch was really nice. I did not feel I personally gained very much from the keynote speakers. Some of the student presentations were interesting. The entire day was taped and will be made available on the net apparently. I am sure Judy and Steve and goldchow will give a much better insight into what went on.
  24. Does Deerhoundowner wish for me to pick him/her up from the airport as well - I'm going to be there anyway ??? Elfin - was it yourself who spoke with me wanting to come with me to the seminar? Deerhoundowner is flying in this afternoon, but thank you so much for the offer. I am taking the dawgs to the train station to meet her so that she knows who I am. Hopefully I will be the only person at Darling Station with three Deerhounds!!! We will be getting a taxi to the seminar but would love to meet you there before we go in... So it's Erny, Steve, Elfin and deerhoundowner... anyone else?
