I read these sorts of postings and am absolutely amazed at the efforts and successes people like 'Steve' have...you are so be commended as genuine 'heros/heroines'...my hat off to you.

We had a very similar situation and to be honest I was consumed with the plight of the poor dog...used to dream of liberating it in the night so no one would see...but I didn't because I had to realise that it was not my problem..and people have different priorities. If it's any consolation, the dog I'm referring to disappeared one day..don't know where, but I can only hope they realised they didn't care enough and sought a better life for it...But you're right, it begs the question why do people have dogs if they then want to ignore them, or treat them harshly..guess it's as you say, when they're cute and cuddly they're attractive. I feel for you Miz J..just wish we could liberate all the dogs kept this way!

anything little and gorgeous for me..pom, maltese, papillon, chi.....you get the drift...

After reading of Jed's terrible predicament/experience, this has restored my faith..a little..thank you for giving us a happy ending
-
I guess you've got to see both sides..we have two small dogs and our little boy was attacked (5 years ago now) in a dog park by a larger dog..so that has made us rather unsettled and so we would probably react as this man did. No reflection on your lovely dog, but an understandable reaction.

Any time my OH and myself enter through our front door it's like the second coming..I am just the most magnificent thing and thank dog I've finally arrived (and I've just put some rubbish in the wheelie bin)! Makes you feel very wanted..whereas my OH barely registers my arrival when I've been away for hours! that's why I love my nippers.

I will buy two if I can pay by credit card...how do you pay exactly?

We're probably not really the audience you're targetting as anything involving a cute dog doing cute things is going to ring our bells...I would personally think it adorable!

Horts I have spent 2 years on here commiserating with people as I thought my old dog was about to go.
Today she did go. And yes I finally knew that it was time. I had been waiting for the time. I did take her to the vet as she loved going out in the car and did love going to the vet. She wasn't at all stressed. The vet was great. No matter their age, Fern was also 15 and half yo, it is not easy.
my sincerest sympathies

Thi topic is wandering all over the place...

Aren't they naughty..but aren't they even more adorable!

As you say, Jacquilee81, it's so nice when you sit there, with OH next to you and the two little uns by your feet.. you really do feel blessed..I know I do, when we all pile into/onto the bed at night!

They are both absolute poppets! You'll have to change your login name now...as you'll be showing bias!

I just wanted to say that this forum has been so liberating for me. Not only have I learnt so much about dog welfare, breeding etc, but I have been shown that others feel as I do about their animals and specifically their dogs. It’s heartening to know that I’m not the only one who cringes walking past pet shops, who despairs at seeing cruelty to dogs and who shakes their head at the thoughtlessness of some humans… I guess my posting is just to say thank you to all the DOLers who make this forum what it is.

straight dettol, just get the no frills brand cos its cheaper, put it in a spray bottle and on a squirt setting, give them a couple of sprays. They sort of go into a bit of a coma after a little while and thats when i pick them up with the shovel and put them in the wheelie bin, but spray a bit of fly spray over it otherwise you will have maggots. A friend of mine has just changed to PineOclean and she said it works just as good and its cheaper
Thanks GoldenGirl85 - sounds like a solution...!

We've been picking two and three off our back lawn for the past few weeks..especially during this rainy part. Evenings comprise OH armed with broom or such and me with torch out for every toilet break. We do a full recky of the garden to check before our little ones go out. Unfortunately we haven't got to killing them yet - OH throws them over the fence into empty house' yard. yep, I know not the right answer..so would be interested in dettol solution..we're scaredy cats when it comes to killing them/picking them up!

What a handsome chap...got yourself a winner there....onya!

The question in our houses is usually "does your DOG allow your OH to sleep on the bed?" :D
Our situation exactly. In fact OH and I have often been hanging off the end of our bed so that our two can lay out as far as they wish!
-
Oh that's no good...
Orbit had a similar episode a few months ago. Just started one night with projectile vomiting that wouldn't stop. Took him to work (vet) that night and he was flat as a tack the next day. Even going outside to the toilet took it out of him and he'd just lay down on the ground outside. The vomiting stopped after about 24 hours but it still took him a good 3 days to recover.
It's so awful when they're sick. His second night in hospital I ended up coming in to have a sleep over with him. He was so happy to see me, he spent the night with me on the bed on the floor....
That's true love on both sides!

I think some people just do not value the life of other creatures, how they can look their dogs in the eye and then take them to certain death is horrendous to me.
We had a young woman surrender her 2 dogs to Council after they escaped for the 2nd time and she didn't want to pay the fines - we offered that she could pay $5 per week until it was paid off but NO she just didn't want to have to pay at all. We advised her that the chances of rehoming the dogs was very low and that they would be PTS - she shrugged her shoulders and walked out :D I despise her, I loathe her and all of her type!
Yep, 'despise' and 'loathe' just about sums up my feelings for these types of cretinous, selfish b...s!

I think Kirsty79 that like myself and OH, you were forced in to a situation you never felt comfortable about. I envy people who have a good network of babysitters for their furkids..like yourself, our network is limited to 'nanny'...so before you even embarked on your hols you probably felt anxious. I can totally understand; OH and I have turned down loads of events because we didn't want to leave the furkids or put them in kennels. I guess you need to weigh up whether going away and being anxious and then having that anxiety realised is worth the going away? OH and I have decided that for as long as we have our furkids, then they're our priority. Might be misplaced, but that's how we read it and we're prepared to go without in other areas of our lives for them. Doesn't matter how reassured (probably correctly) you'll be by DOLers, you've got that mindset now that equates kennels with your recent experience - nothing will change that.
I'll shut-up!

Ditto to what others say..although sometimes I find the postings confronting, but I guess that's part of the attraction...and the realisation that how I view my dogs is how others view theirs..I was starting to feel very alone before I found DOL...
When It's Not Okay To Play

OH and I have been known to apologise when we get in the way of our dogs playing on the bed..sometimes I've even had a backside thrust up against my face as one tries to 'kill' the other one...who's bed is it!
