  1. Redkidsmum - I just found them on a Ebay store which says they do fit the wahl clippers.
  2. I wanted a brindle SBT or a white bull terrier as a child. My 6 year old would like a Ridgeback or Dobermann. We have 2 Miniature Poodles :D
  3. I have some shampoo that needs diluting. I would love to make up a bulk batch and keep it in a pump pack. Does anyone know of anywhere (online or in the shops) where I can buy some big ones? Thanks
  4. I know people dont find the 8 hours a day at work a problem (I dont either) but most people seem to missing the fact her parents wont let the pup out of the laundry at all and I dont think this is going to change once the dog is grown. Is it just me or do people really think it is ok to keep a dog confined to a laundry 20 hours a day? Is this the optimal way for a dog to spend its life? I really dont think so and thats why I urged her to rehome.
  5. I think it is illegal to sell a pup in the ACT that isnt microchipped (regardless of age)
  6. My concern is that you cant have him with you when you are home. He would be getting very little stimulation, socialisation, and activity locked in a small laundry 20 hours a day ( I chose 20 hours as if you are working 8, sleeping 8 and then showering, eating, travelling for another approximately 4 hours then thats how long the dog is locked up). Whilst 8 hours alone would be standard "alone" time for alot of dogs most dogs would be with their humans as soon as they came home or out running around the yard being active. By the sounds of it your parents wouldnt be keen on the crate idea which allows him to atleast be in the same room as you (but contained) and if that is the case then I would rehome - it isnt fair on your dog to be confined for so long.
  7. I agree. If something happened between my kids (I have 2 and 1 on the way and my dogs) I would do everything possible - vet checks, behaviourists and even building a secure dog run to help my dogs - I bought them, I love them and I owe it to them. I love my kids and would protect them to the death but I would also do whatever possible to help my dogs.
  8. My female is definitely more dominant. I just find it amazing that most dogs can judge him from a fair distance away - they make a beeline for him. Maybe I should stop calling him my sooky boy
  9. I take my 2 dogs (1 x male, 1 x female - littermates) who are now 16 months old down to our local offleash park every day for some ball throwing. There are regularly other dogs around and every now and then we encounter a "humper". For some reason they only ever go for my male dog - they dont even bother with my female and if the even try anything she tells them to get lost and they leave her alone - no questions asked but will still continue to harass my boy (I dont let it continue - I give the owner a chance to come get their dog then it is leashes on and we are off) So what is it about him that makes dogs want to hump him? Quite often he is just minding his own business chasing the ball and they come running over. It has happend since he was younger. I have noticed now he will tell them to get lost - only after he has the dog ontop of him - it never gets that far with my girl. They are both desexed and there is no humping at home (between the dogs that is LOL).
  10. Definately not Cav behaviour I know. I was told it is a Cav x shitzu but if there is any shitzu in it I would run around the block naked LOL. He has Blenheim markings and a shortish snout but pointy ears, stands as tall as my mini poodles and has a short coat (no feathering). He was a pet shop puppy so probably didnt have the best start to life. I do feel sorry for him and atleast he isnt abused but he cant go on running around the neighbourhood.
  11. I spoke with the wife yesterday afternoon. She felt awful about the lady as she was very distressed. I talked to her about getting a trainer to come to the house and help them out and she was interested. I also threw in the conversation that if the dog hurt anyone the dog would probably be PTS. Fastforward to today the dog was out by itself at one stage and then offleash with the kids at our local kids park. The families first language isnt English so I think they are abit nervous/worried about using a trainer. The kids seem to have more control over the dog than the mother. I am going to sleep on it. If things keep going this way I dont think it will be long until it is hit by a car - it is often out roaming.
  12. The owner was there trying to catch the dog too - just softly calling his name.. I have decided to stress to them (as I am on good terms with the woman) that he cant be out on his own whether her kids and husband listen (who are the main culprits for letting him out) is another thing. If I keep seeing him out then I will report the dog. I would feel partially responsible if someone was bitten. As it is another person up the road has been rushed by him in their driveway so we arent talking about isolated incidences more escalating incidences. I didnt get a chance to talk to the lady who was attacked. As soon as she could she was out of there so dont know what she plans on doing. I know alot of people dont think to report these things.
  13. This morning I heard hysterical screaming and crying outside. I looked out my front window and saw the neighbours dog (Cav x) nipping at the ankles of someone on their morning walk. It was barking and growling and wouldnt leave this lady alone. It didnt actually bite her but was definitely aggressive. The lady was upset and I know her jumping and screaming made the dog worse but you can imagine it was quite scary for her. I managed to distract it by bringing one of my dogs out who it was keen to meet. This dog never lets you pat it/near it, is "skittish" with other dogs and the neighbours seem to let it roam (I think it may escape out the front door and it has ZERO recall) so they just let it go. We live near a park with lots of children walking by. My concern is that it could do it to one of them. It has rushed me in my driveway before but I am not scared by him so havent made a big deal about it but todays incident has made me rethink the whole situation. The owners do love the dog - it is walked twice a day, treats, bathed, kept inside - they just seem to have no idea. I would hate for the dog to be PTS but would hate for a child (or anyone) be bitten. I am in the ACT if anyone has an relevant advice. Thanks
  14. The only experience I have is with childrens daycare and if they had treated me they way those doggy daycare centres did I definitely wouldnt have left my kids and since my dogs welfare is just as important I wouldnt leave my dogs their either.
  15. As far as I know Poodle Antics arent taking on any new clients but the owner has been very lovely the few times I have spoken to him . My 2 poodles just went to Shampooch in Kambah and she was fantastic.
  16. I am going to stick up for the PARENTS on this site. Children bashing goes on far too much on here. We arent all morons who let our children terrorize your precious dog. Some of us do teach our children or restrain our toddlers not to approach strange dogs. Just as there are irresponsible dog owners there are irresponsible parents, drivers, ect Sometimes the anti-child sentiment on this site really gets to me.
  17. The children issue isnt a biggy for me - My youngest was 6 months old when we got our 2 puppies and being on maternity leave helped toilet train them settle them in. The big issue for me is the outside part - My 2 are inside and included with the family (yes that includes dancing to the wiggles LOL). They are also walked daily and are currently asleep on our bed :D TBH I dont understand how outside only dogs are happy - but thats just me. Our dogs are mini poodles so quite different from Labs.
  18. I will walk my 2 in the rain. I dont put coats on them though. They love chasing the ball rain, hail or shine. I took my 2 dogs and my 18 month old toddler - they all had a lovely time playing in the puddles The worst thing is that I had them professionally groomed (they are poodles) instead of my usual home job and they were looking fantastic - now they are damp and muddy LOL
  19. We have only ever come across "plain old poodles" twice but each time they loved playing with the other Poodles. They do enjoy running around with the many lab x poodles we come across. My girl has a crush on a brown one called Rupert - she usually isnt too fussed with other dogs but LOVES him LOL
  20. 1. Mites - If your cats go outside they could be picking them up and reinfecting the dogs. 2. Yeast infection - can be on the paws then dog scratches their ears and reinfect their ears. 3. Allergies - Try a wheat free food, single protein source such as chicken. Vets sell a prescription diet or you can get something like Artemis. My 2 mini poodles had a similar problem earlier this year. Grass seeds caused the initial infection which got worse due to a crap vet who treated them for yeast infection (didnt see the grass seeds) and prescribed Dermotic, still not better changed vets, dogs sedated, ears plucked, flushed grass seeds removed, treated with Otomax and oral antibiotic then they still had some discharge and we treated with a spot on as they had picked up mites (dont know if it was a co-incedence or not) The next step after all this if there was still problems was to treat for allergies and go on a prescription diet of a dry food from which is from a single protein source such as chicken (apparently chicken is good for allergic dogs)
  21. Thats really interesting reading. I am sure it would shock alot to know that pedigrees dont cost an arm and a leg. I know for a fact my friend bought 2 cocker spaniel x poodles for $1200 each from Pets Paradise I dont know why it is taboo to talk prices. I am sure it save alot of breeders time fielding calls from people who realise that they cant afford their breed.
  22. They probably knew better but then let their emotions override their head and think that they are saving it.
  23. Sarbi is heading home (or should already be home) http://www.examiner.com.au/news/local/news...90.aspx?src=rss Herbie was given a proper military service just as his handler was. The dogs have a special place amongst members of the military.
  24. What about dogs that need grooming (such as Poodles) that havent been groomed/clipped in 12 months - would the RSPCA act on that?
  25. I leave their coat a little longer but but my guys need a regular clip (atleast every 8-12 weeks) or their coats become harder to maintain and dont look as nice. Plus they need their feet and face done - wet feet in winter can cause yeast infections and I dont like hairy faced poodles LOL.
