  1. Hey guys,

I'd really like to get my Mum a proper macro lens, so I'm looking at the Sigma 105mm, the Tamron 90mm and the Tokina 100mm...I can't afford the Canon. Just wondering what the major differences are between the 3. Also, one of the Tokina ones has Pro D in the title and the other, for $100 less, doesn't...what does Pro D mean?

    TIA!

Ooh a topic after my own heart... I've been looking into these too... For me it is a choice between the Sigma and the Tamron, but would need to get a sample first before the purchase as there are issues with AF mechanisms on the Sigma.

Both are meant to be razor sharp and very good Macro lenses. The 15mm further reach might be the decider for me on Sigma though :)

Tokina is one I'd stay away from (their flagship is the 12-24).

  2. As an owner of a dog who will bark at kids purely as a warning system, if we see a parent come in with kids (under 4) we'll walk over and tell them that our dog will park, but just to get the kid to stand still and we'll distract the dog.

it is when the kids do things like cry and run that Aubrey will get a little bit anxious, but she is getting much better.

It is a dog park, if your kid is scared of dogs and will cry / run / shout etc then don't bring them in... it works both ways too!

  3. Happy Birthday Aubrey - hope you have been thoroughly spoiled today  .

Unfortunately not really due to work etc, but she will be over the next few days

Token birthday shot with her best friend  Some better PP required, but needed a shot for my 365

Thanks for all your birthday wishes

  4. Today is Aubrey's 2nd birthday, and whilst my OH uses Aubrey's name to log in to DOL, Aubrey is often referred to as my dog, with Thomas sucking up to the OH more than me.

Whilst you were born on 22nd March 2008, you entered our lives on 10nd June 2008 and our worlds changed.

Both the OH and I had grown up with family pets, but we had never had our own dog. It was a huge decision for us, and one we are (most of the time) so glad we did.

2 years ago, if you would have asked me if I would be doing dog obedience, dog photography and dog agility, I would have laughed.... now they are all parts of my life.

For the photography, you are my muse. Always happy to pose for the camera... turning your head this way and that as I talk to you.

For the agility, you have shown me that with a roast chicken, almost anything is possible... this year maybe even a title!

For the obedience.... well we've still got a long way to go!

Over the past 2 years you have destroyed countless socks, toilet roll tubes and a sofa, we've removed all the flowers from the garden and replaced them with river rock and we now need to repaint the walls where you scratch away to get past the dog gate when we come home, but I wouldn't change you for the world!

The best bit though is your idea that as soon as I wake up and say hello its your invite to clean my face

 Aubrey.... my little :D dog princess

  5. Take a look at Photographic Wholesalers.... They do hands on training events now and again for flash photography and using your Canon.

The Adelaide Camera Club are doing a photoshoot later on this month which is "available and low light" so come along to the meeting on Tuesday or come to the shoot in 10 days  I'll be using it to learn more on my SB-900 :)
