  1. Ollie you hold a special place in many hearts and those of us whose lives you have touched remember you for the legend you are. You will never be forgotten. Jodie
  2. Some things are just meant to be and happen for a reason unbeknown to us. So happy to hear this story, there will be a part of your heart he will never own, but I am sure given time he will put his own paw prints on it. J
  3. If you are in Victoria and you take him to a pound and he is deemed to be BSL breed type, then you place his life at risk, if he he a young dog without a microchip then he is obviously not registered with a council in Victoria as legislation has been in since May 2007 all dogs registered in Victoria after this time must have a microchip. If you take him to a vet, you don't have to tell them you found him, you can simply ask if they would scan him to check if he has one , most Vets I know don't believe in BSL, but there is always a risk that they may report the dog. Of course LDH, RSPCA and any other Victorian pound that this dog enters, has to abide by the law. So if you can get him/her home, that is your best course of action. hope this makes sens and helps.
  4. You could take him to a vet clinic and ask if they can scan him for a microchip!
  5. Jodie, I am heartbroken for you, devastated to read of Ollie dog's passing. Your journey of love and devotion has been inspirational. Your selfless sharing and compassion too has also been remarkable. Ollie dog is a legend and will live on in spirit with you forever, he will look out for you and watch over you always, a bond that could never be broken. My heart goes out to you with all that has happened, take care of yourself and your boys. Words are just not adequate to express the intense emotion felt for you at this time. Ollie dog Run Free We will always love and remember you! Julie
  6. SOME HUMANS ARE BEYOND COMPREHENSION! The dogs will be sentenced to death, for doing something they have been told to do.
  7. I take offence to that. My work involves speaking with victims on a weekly basis and holding their beloved animals while they are sent to the bridge. No scaremongering, FACT, sadly. Now with the new laws and even more empowerment many of us are in for some horrendous times.
  8. mmm, my collie was seized and euthanized for ONE NIP. I didn't refuse to pay the fine(I have paid it) I wasn't told I was required to keep him in a certain way to have him returned and he was a 23 month old puppy that I'd had for under 2 months when this 'incident' occurred. This isn't scaremongering, it's the truth! PS - My staffy x is also required to wear a muzzle when off the property. She didn't bite, but she's 'menacing' according to Monash Council. I wouldn't believe a single word you say. Well I believe you happens where I live all the time. One bite or nip, no second chance, seized unless surrendered for euthanasia.
  9. Where I live Council kill dogs that kill chooks no rehoming allowed, the ultimatum is surrender for euthanasia or seized dog, maybe these people have checked out options and are trying this method of rehoming first.
  10. If you smother the pad with Vaseline ( petroleum jelly) it will give fantastic protection while the pad heals, however you need some confinement to stop dirt and grit getting into it and from the Vaseline leaving slighty greasy areas everywhere. Perhaps bandage to keep it covered. Have seen this work over and over again, however all the dogs have been in confinement.
  11. Just a short update on Vada, now just over twelve months since she had her surgery, she continues to be well and happy and to date no reoccurrence of anything nasty. J
  12. Merry Christmas Jodie and Ollie, stay safe and well and enjoy the festive season. Hugs, Julie
  13. Love and Hugs to you Michelle that bond you shared will never die. Julie
  14. HAPPY 13 TH BIRTHDAY OLLIE! ;)
  15. How could the dogs go home, was there not a witness to identify the dogs? This is what Victorian Law states : YOU are liable if your dog attacks, or injures someone! YOU may be prosecuted and ordered to pay a fine and damages. YOUR dog may be destroyed. YOU are responsible for keeping your dog confined and supervised.
  16. http://www.themercury.com.au/article/2010/...sofjustice.html A Jail term at last! Water only for the month would be humane.
  17. Michelle, THE LAST BATTLE If it should be that I grow frail and weak and pain should keep me from my sleep, Then you must do what must be done, For this--the last battle--can't be won. You will be sad I understand, Don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, What is to come can hold no fears You'd not want me to suffer, so. When the time comes, please let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me til the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree it is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close--we two--these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears. " Your love and friendship stood the test " May Matey enjoy his time at the bridge until you join him. The love and bond you share is never broken, his spirit will always be with you. You have been so much in my thoughts since your last post. Love and Hugs, Julie
  18. I have tried people insect repellent, animal fly repellent. Smothering ears with vaseline all to no avail, any suggestions or tips of anything that is effective, would be most appreciated.
  19. Michelle My thoughts and prayers are with you and Matey , enjoy your time with him. Love and Hugs to both of you. Julie
  20. So so sorry this is such sad news. Thinking of you. Run free beautiful Halle.
  21. Hi Michelle, So sorry to hear about Matey's diagnosis it really is the pits and your head is in a whirl trying to deal with it all and trying so hard for your baby to be doing the very best for them as quickly as possible. Is Matey's paw the only tumour or are others suspected. Can I ask exactly what your vet has recommended any suggestion of surgery at all? Or radiation to shrink the tumour if this is at all possible. Staffyluv has a wonderful insight and experience with MCT and is just so wonderfully willing to share her experience and opinions. She was my lifeline of support when my crisis was happening. I have posted my journey with Vada today with her MCT and I have another stafford that was recently diagnosed with another type of tumour on her leg that radiation and maybe amputation may be a consideration. Best wishes and hugs to you and Matey
  22. Vada is a brindle and white Stafford girl that came to live with me end of August 2008 she was almost 9.5 years at the time as she has just turned 11 on the 1st of March this year. She came with a lump on her left side towards the bottom of her rib cage and I was told it had been there a long long time and not bothered her. When I took her along for her vaccination in October 2009 my vet looked at it and said lumps like that are better removed so we spoke of doing that in the future after all it had been there a long time and didn't seem to be worrying her in anyway. From the time she came to live with me I had noticed this lump fluctuated in size from time to time. Late November 2009 the lump became quite painful and appeared infected she managed to get hind paw to it and scratched it open, put her on antibiotics and this quickly alleviated her pain and it started to subside. I took her along to my vet and she said we'll remove it tomorrow night so this she did and when dissecting the lump for inspection she felt that maybe she did not have all of it cleanly and explained that she could do further surgery on the site and take more if necessary we would await the pathology report. Pathology report arrives and I receive a phone call from the vet telling me the diagnosis is" MCT Gr 2 narrow margins, we need to go back and get wide margins, problem with Gr 2 tumours is they can act as Gr 1 or Gr 3 and time and the dog will tell us that." I can't explain the shock of the diagnosis was really not expecting that, anyway a time was set once again for surgery and I contacted Staffyluv as I had recently read Ollie's thread and was just in awe of his journey. Staffyluv immediately shared her knowledge, her opinions and gave me such inspirational support that leaves me forever in her debt. I commenced Vada on the anti cancer diet and supplements immediately. Surgery took place and this time it was extremely radical as vet went for wide margins, pathology report later confirmed she had obtained excellent margins. I questioned myself why I was doing this after this surgery and again Staffyluv gave me such incredible support. Vada is now almost 3 months post surgery and is looking and feeling great apart from her coat that was extensively shaved for surgery. Chemo my vet tells me in her case is not necessary at this point we just monitor for any changes. Keeping her as well as I possibly can has become paramount to allow her to keep this sneaky disease at bay, we will take each day as it comes in the hope that it rolls into weeks and then years so she can enjoy the rest of her life. J
  23. A delight to watch. She is a truly beautiful girl and so focused.
  24. You must be so proud. Had to watch it twice, just fabulous. An extremely enthusiastic Pepe who obviously enjoys every minute. Congrats to you both. I did ENJOY. Thanks for sharing! J
  25. Have just received a pathology report for a growth removed from my Missy's front leg above and to the outside of the paw, removed 2 weeks ago. The report came back with Soft Tissue Sarcoma Gr 2 and very narrow margins, but well done considering the anatomical positioning of the tumor. To be watched for recurrence over the next 6-24 months. Anyone that can share any insight and knowledge on their experience with these tumors would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
