I have to admit I'm a bit confused about how much to use of the superboost too! I ended up putting 3 teaspoons into the 280g of veg mix, then added that mix to the 500g of meat it would be great to hear what other people have done :-)

Alternative To Zd Dry Dog Food
goldenluv replied to goldenluv's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The short version is that allergies are based on the fact that consuming large proteins causes a huge histamine release in the body - a bit like hayfever, but obviously different. The histamine release is an over response by the immune system. Proteins with a molecular weight of less than 10,000 daltons generally go undetected by the immune system - so no histamine release. In Hills z/d, and also RC hypoallergenic, the proteins are hydrolysed down so they have an average molecular weight of 3,000 daltons. Starches included in the food are either extremely low protein <1% or purified so they contain no proteins. Some dogs will have chronic gastrointestinal symptoms not because they are allergic to one specific protein, it's due to large proteins causing skin or gut issues. It wouldn't matter what animal protein you tried if the dog's system cannot process large proteins - which is very often the case. Thank you very much, very interesting. -
Just wondering if the RSPCA are doing anything about this, arnt they surpose to be about animal welfare or do we need something more like the animal police in the US and if by some chance we catch these so called people, they should never see the light of day again AND I hope there cell mate is an animal lover

sorry not realy, vet just said he is haveing trouble with the animal protein try ZD his tummy and ear (he repeatedly gets an ear infection in one ear) does well on ZD but he has less energy and has lost coat and at $149 for 11kg I think it should be better, dont realy care what it cost just want him feeling better thats why I thought I'd ask if anyone else has tryed something different when told to use ZD I have tryed to look into it but it get so confusing, alot of the low alergy ones have potato in it like ZD but have found online that white potato is not that good for dogs as its part of the nightshade family and if the dog food people use older potatos its not good the US has LOTS of different foods chick peas, sweet potato, lentils with fish which I think could be better for him but we do not get any of them here in Australia -
