  1. My mini schnauzer Zeppi (RIP) had one. He lost the canine and the small teeth around the canine, in order to get good margins. We used a specialist surgeon because oral surgery can be a bit tricky and it was the type that grows into the surrounding tissue (acanthomatous). I don't remember how much the operation cost. It was over ten years ago now.

Epulis keep growing so while they are "benign" they have to be removed. There used to be a dog in the states called "Pumpkin" who was abandoned and had one. The poor dog looked like it had a pumpkin growing out of its mouth. http://www.pugrescue...rg/pumpkin.html

  2. I thought it was all over, but no... Today my credit card was debited by PetPlan again!!! SO I have sent another angry email, told them I'm going to inform the ombudsman (does anyone know the appropriate details for that?!) demanded a refund within 48 hours, demanded they send me an email and a paper letter outlining which policies I had when they were cancelled etc etc. Will just wait to see what happens.

But really if anyone knows what the ombudsman details are I"m over it now and am ready to send something to them. :mad

Have look through the website. Make sure you know what outcome(s) you want to happen.

  3. I just received the renewal paperwork from Petplan (that should have arrived 3 weeks ago).

The cover letter is addressed to me but the certificate of insurance is for a 5 year old female chocolate Labrador called Ruby who lives in Tullamarine, Victoria.

Considering Remy is a 3 year old male schnauzer and the certificate of insurance also has Ruby's owner's name and address, I'm a bit concerned.

I know Petplan is better on paper but what price do you put on getting the basic details right?

  4. If you have a strong magnet you should be able to use it on the bag of poop without having to examine it in detail.

Remy ate a box of staples once. The x-ray at the emergency vets showed he had chewed them thoroughly - no open ones to be seen.

The solution was lots of soft food and a rare earth magnet against his bags of poop. Needless to say after 2 days his poop was magnetic!! rofl1.gif

  5. Sorry to bump this but I just wanted to chime in and say I am moving from petplan to putting the money into a locked savings accounts, my premium went up buy 80% to just over $80 per month, it is insane and the worse part is they won't take into account the dogs parental history and tests already done to prove it is clear of all known issues with the breed. heck i know more about my boys health and family history than my own.

4 years in a locked savings account will net around 5K cash and keep on growing as he gets older, so any problems should be covered.

I'm moving Remy (my standard schnauzer) to Medibank. Max (my mini schnauzer) was with Medibank from the start, so I get an additional discount for Remy. If next year sees huge increases with Medibank, then I will be doing the same as you .

ETA. I still have not received a renewal for Remy from Petplan. I pay annually instead of direct debit, so I wonder what will happen?

  6. Just wondering which brand of pick-up bag do you guys recommend. I use a brand with 60bags($16.95 from "famous" pet shop) and I thought the price is not competitive. Wanted to find a daily pick-up bag with competitive price.

    Thanks in advance.

Kmart nappy bags $4 for a box of 200.

  7. I've sent an email off to cancel my policy. Of course haven't heard a word back. The increased payments was going to stretch things a bit far and I am going to put what I was paying onto a credit card. While I claimed a large amount for Fern over the last 12 months, my premiums actually would have covered it if they had been put away.

There's actually a form on their website that you fill in for cancellation. You have to fax it or mail it or scan and and email it, though.

  8. I went down but didn't join and so didn't buy one. some of the prices were the same as other shops. You'd have to buy an awful lot to recover your $60 joining fee I think, and you have to have the room to store all your bulk items.

It was an interesting experience though, the cafateria was good value. I had the strangest experience there though. As I went to pay I said to the girl I'd never used the tap and go. I touched the machine with my card and quick as a flash another customer loomed up from nowhere, snatched my card from me and said no you have to put it in the slot. I got such a shock, I didn't have time to react. She was wrong anyway, I'd already paid.

I saw a man who looked alot like Rupert Murdoch shopping there, and a personal trainer, I know that cause he had it written on his back, sitting with a couple of blokes who looked like athletes and they were all eating junk food. It was great! All very entertaining.

You'd be surprised. For my first trip to Costco I saved over $100 after the joining fee was accounted for. I used a spreadsheet to track prices and I always came out way ahead. Consumables like paper towels and toilet paper are a great deal cheaper, if you have the space for the extra large quantities.

  9. I'm considering dumping Petplan now....my renewal isn't up until December 27 but I could save that money and we do have a credit card that is only used when we really need it (ie. when Cleo got sick we used it). Currently I pay $40 per dog, per month so it's not a huge amount but could make a difference.

I am so undecided, we could save that little bit extra per month or have a little bit of peace of mind (it's not total peace as stories of claims being rejected worry me).

You can pull the pin immediately if you haven't claimed in the current insurance year. If you have claimed, you are up for the annual amount anyway.... it's the way insurance works even though you are paying a monthly instalment.

  10. apparently it did not smell like urine? toxins of the body would make sense but they would have to escape the body somehow.

sheridan were you able to confirm it was tramadol?

apart from drinking a LOT of water he is doing well today, back to his normal self. not sure about the bees, he is only a pup so im sure he trys to play with anything lol

Tramadol has some nasty side effects in some dogs. It seems to affect their vision / balance which makes them exceedingly stressed and anxious which in turn defeats the purpose of giving it.

  11. Hi all, I have my pup covered by pet plan Supreme, we got a rehome husky 3.5 mths ago and wanted to insure her too but its all changed and she will cost more on the basic cover than he costs on the top cover? I am guessing its all changed as I put in my pups details and the new plans will cost $20 a mth more!!

any other insurance companies recommended which are cheaper? keeping him on the plan he is as he is cheaper on the old plan, but wanting to cover her for basic too.

Petplan have just hiked up their prices. There is another thread here http://www.dolforums...emium-increase/

People are pretty cranky over it..

  12. It is a large lump of cash and I budget to do it though, but I pay an annual premium - that way they can't put it up without me agreeing.

If you claim and you pay your premium monthly, you are obligated to pay the premiums for the rest of the 12 insurance term anyway.

Do they have a weasel words clause that says they can change the monthly premium after some sort of "notice" ???

  13. ...If you were at a crossing and a car didn't stop then the driver of the car is at fault but if you are driving and someone runs in front of your car and you had no reasonable ability to stop then it is deemed to be an accident and the driver can be cleared of fault. ---..

Um, I don't think this is true. I think in the first case it becomes negligent driving occasioning bodily harm or death (or whatever they call it these days - I think the term is different in different states) and in the second case it may be just a negligent driving charge and 3 points on your license.

I do remember a case that was in the news some time ago. A lady was driving through a 40kph school zone and hit a child who ran out in front of her. I think the child died. It went to court and her defense was that she was doing less than the speed limit so it wasn't her fault. She lost the court case and I think did jail time.

I think the summary was if a car hits a pedestrian, the car driver is automatically at fault.
