  1. Yup I'm still coming Cara sounds like Millie, but with zero training, so I'd love to pick your brain RS. I love her dearly, and she's a good girl, but she's been ignored for the first 8 months of her life, so we have to overcome that.
  2. Henry isn't allowed up either, and she has no idea how to get up the stairs, which suits me right now :D
  3. She is hyper and I think her total lack of training doesn't help. She didn't know how to even sit when we got her, but we're doing 2 x 10 minutes of training each day plus her walks. Paige's bedroom is downstairs and I spend most of my time upstairs. She also stands at the bottom of the stairs and barks at me constantly. She's fine if I'm downstairs and if I'm in the office she'll just hang out down there and sleep. But she really doesn't like to be away from us. Something I need to address.
  4. Where do I get bitter lime from? I'm going to sand back the stair this weekend and revarnish it, hopefully it'll look like new again :D
  5. Because the neighbours complained to my Mum (who owns the house) apparentlty they've been barking. I thought about baby gates, but Cara has been chewing the stairs, and I really don't know if she'd keep chewing that. I've attached the photo of the space they sleep in at night, that bottom stair now has big teeth mark in it.
  6. Hey guys, I need to confine my dogs inside during the day. Henry would be fine, but Cara I'm worried about, she can be quite destructive. Anyone have ideas? I thought about crating them, and they'd only need to be in the crates from about 9am to around 2.30pm.
  7. Oh I love Dobes. I bred and showed them about 15 years ago up in Darwin and I miss them a lot, such beautiful dogs And fruit buns are the best, chocolate are nasty
  8. Welcome spyke88, Spider is gorgeous I'm no expert on training either, but there are some great posts in the Training forum and plenty of Obedience clubs around the place ;)
  9. We had our first obedience class last night. Cara got so bored after about half an hour, that not even food could interest her. Hens on the other hand, he was happy to perform all night long with treats.
  10. Heya, can you update my order by another 2 please. So that's 8 medium, 2 small
  11. Hi Can I please order 6 medium and 2 small Thanks Edit: Updated order from 4 to 6 medium
  12. Gah, I need to kennel my dogs for 10 days in April, anyone got any ideas of good kennels in Perth?
  13. I have two Labs. Henry is 8 and he'll retrieve anything he's asked to retrieve. He always has a toy or a ball in his mouth and above everything else, this motivates him. Cara, our 8 month old puppy doesn't appear to be that interested in retrieving. She'll chase the toy/ball if you hype it up, but often actually pick it up, and rarely will she bring it back. I'm hoping she's just a silly puppy because I'd like to do retrieving with her next year.
  14. I didn't make it to tracking Woke up this morning and the fish pond had hardly any water in it, and the 3 large koi, and lots of little goldfish were not happy. I think Cara did something :X I couldn't find any holes, so I dunno what to do now eep.
  15. I want to see this, I cried when I read about this dog many years ago. I'll be terrible. Anything to do with animals and I can't hold it back. Marley and Me made me sob into my popcorn
  16. Oh no Hannah ;) I hope you're feeling ok. My daughter had keyhole surgery on her appendix a number of years ago and it wasn't fun.
  17. I really wish I could do retrieving with him, he'd love it so much and would be perfect at it. Cara on the other hand, who I can do retrieving with, isn't at all interested in it.
  18. I know the info is in here somewhere, but just thought I'd paste the flyer TrackWest sent me ;) Pre Season Tracking Workshop Venue: Lumen Christi College, Mills Road, West Martin Date: Saturday, 27th March 2010 Time: 0800am to 12 noon Enquiries: Sue Fletcher (93064772) [email protected] or [email protected] (web site: http://members.iinet.net.au/~mfmargot/tracking.html) Refreshments: BYO Equipment: Fixed collar, lead, food or favourite toy This workshop for beginners is held prior to commencement of tracking season (commencing Saturday, 10th April 2010). 19. Totally bringing Henners ;) I don't know how I'll get him to drop the soft toys, he's in love with them and always has one in his mouth. Funnily enough, they've lasted much better than Kongs ;)
  20. I have 2 labs, and they're pretty demanding but so worth it. We walk ours for 45 minutes to an hour in the mornings. They're then left all day by themselves, from about 8am until 3pm or so when my daughter gets home. I try to put things around the yard that keeps them occupied. Kongs filled with frozen treats are great (except Henry destroys them). I also make icy treats, I use water flavoured with chicken stock and freeze a layer with a couple of cheese pieces in it, a layer with some kibble, and a layer with some steamed carrots and then freeze it and give it to them in the icecream containers in the morning. They're generally happy to chew on that for a while. I also hide some treats around the yard, so they go searching. The walk is the most important thing tho, it tires them out and they mostly sleep all day. In the afternoon we'll either go for a walk, a swim down the river, or do some training. Anything to engage them so they are happy to go to sleep around 7pm I don't think it matters how big your yard is provided you're giving them exercise and stimulation every day. I'd also recommend obedience, we plan on doing agility with Cara when she's old enough and also retrieving, so she continues to have a life that's interesting, challenging (in a good way) and fun.
  21. I told her that advertising your dog, at such an early age, for such a large amount of money with "Breeders Dream" as the title makes her appear as she's only doing it for the money. I've sent her a puppy development timeline. I probably shouldn't bother, she's not going to listen, but I don't know what else to do.
  22. Oh it gets better, apparently her friend is a vet and they told her that the dog can leave after 4 weeks. She also doesn't want to give the dogs to a rescue organisation because she looks after the dogs better than they can and all they want to do is make money. It's like smashing my head against a brick wall.
