  1. Hi all, Just a quick question regarding my dogs leather collar. I have to do the collar up on the tightest hole so that it fits him properly (I got a larger size as I thought he may grow some more...but he didnt, lol). The only thing is, this means that the extra leather hangs down after the buckle where it does up. It is soo annoying as it really ruins the look of the collar. I was hoping someone could give me a solution to my problem. Is there a strap holder I can buy or can I just cut the leather? Or will this damage it? Thank you!
  2. Hi Rescuers, Sorry to intrude but I was just wondering if the Hunter Pounds have threads any more? I just cant seem to find Kurri Kurri or Singleton or Muswellbrook? Thank you!
  3. Yes, I understand that we need to work on it, that is why I asked for some advice, just didnt know where to start. I wouldn't have thought it so hilarious if the labs owners weren't standing next to us giggling because it is usually their dog that humps others. My partner actually swam out to grab our dog off and reprimand him. I agree that dogs humping one another is unacceptable behavior, but in reality, when you have lots of dogs that are excited, together in one place, one dog is going to hump another. It is when that happens that it is the owners responsibly to be vigilant and take their dog away. voloclydes, it sounds like you have a very pretty boy on your hands :D
  4. Thanks for the replies :) I know that it must be annoying for the other owners because we are so used to our dog being the one who gets humped, so we always grab him, say sorry and move away from the area where the dog is. It looks like we will be getting out the long line again. And I have just bought some really smelly fish flavoured treats so that hopefully he will find the food more attractive than the dog when we call him to come. He has been told off for playing too rough etc by other dogs and he responds immediately and slinks away knowing that he has gone too far. So do you think that this is a stage of his maturing? Like he is trying to assert his dominance and claim his rank of something? Should we be doing anything special at home if this is the case? Also yes....it sounds funny....and the humping in the water was...well...halarious  ...but we must fix this! lol
  5. Hi all :) So we have a small problem with our 11 month old, desexed Ridgeback pup. He is an amazing dog, loving, friendly, not dominant towards people or dogs, very much a follower. We go to the dog park and dog beach daily where he romps with other dogs and has a great time. Only recently our problem has started.....he will find a Labrador...and hump it! It goes so far as him swimming out into the water at the beach and humping the lab as it swims back to shore! He doesnt hump any other breed of dog, only a lab (usually a yellow lab). This also only happens at the beach. At the dog park he is the one who is getting humped by the other dogs. It seems like he gets over excited at the beach as he plays quite roughly at the beach but at the park he is gentle. If anyone has any words of wisdom please let me know! We want this humping to stop! Thanks :)
  6. Thanks for the continued responses We always go and get him if he is too much for the other dog as we dont want to stress anyone or their dogs out. Yes, I think it is to do with how excited he gets too, as we went for a nice walk before the dog beach today and he played much more genlty. So would the best way to get him to know that we dont like that style of play is to get him and sit him down and make him calm down before letting him play again? Or do you think as he is only 6 months old, he will become more gentle as he gets older?
  7. Thanks Terujo Thant is certainly a relief to know that he is a normal pup!
  8. Hi all, So I have been researching this for a while on my own but wanted some DOL opinions. We have a 6 month old ridge who has a beautifulo nature, has been socialised extensitvely and is a submissive to other dogs. He plays rough, and in a different way to other dogs I have seen. When he sees another dog he 'stalks' it. He will walk down low to the ground and then drop onto his belly. He remains on the ground lying down untill the other dog can have a sniff of him and then he hops up and licks the other dogs face. Then when the other dog runs around asking him to play he chases the other dog and bounces up and tried to nip the skin on their back. The other dog doesnt seem worried at all and keeps coming back for more. It the owners and myself who doesnt like this type of play style because its as if he is trying to 'take down' his prey. Im not sure if this is right because he doenst do this back biting thing with little dogs, only bigger dogs? Even if this play style is harmless, how can I get him to stop it and play more genlty?
  9. Hi Good job for researching a lot before choosing a breed. I have a very laid back 6 month old ridgie who has just been a dream puppy. He is very relaxed, he wakes up in the morning when we let him inside and will go back to sleep for another 2 hours! Also, he has just been home alone for 6 hours and I have come home and he had some excited time (bout 10 mins) and he is back asleep again. So from this maybe a ridgie would suit your quiet lifestyle? But if you were to consider a ridgie, you might want to base your choice from a larger sample size than one...lol. Other than that maybe instead of the pound, try a rescue gr?>oup? They will be able to match a dog up with your needs, so not so much of a risk as a poundie in terms of temperament?
  10. I thought it would be pushing it to get one under $100, but one can always be hopeful... :D I love the idea of the baby mattress and a doon cover...i might look into that. Thanks for the links too, I will have a look at those now
  11. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone knows where I can buy an extra large dog bed (for a dog over 40kgs) online. It has to be one that has enough padding to keep them off the floor. Any style is fine, its for inside so doesn't need to be raised or anything. Under $100 would be good if possible Thank you!
  12. Hi all, With all the bad media going around about pittbulls and pittbull crosses I just wanted to say that I met a lovely pittbull with a lovely owner yesterday and was so impressed. This dog was one of the most balanced and friendly dogs I have ever met and was just a total mascot for the breed If anyone is a fan of Cesar Millan, this dog reminded me so much of Daddy the pittbull :D Just wanted to put some good vibes out there for the pittbulls and crosses as with the right owner they are just a great dog!
  13. I'm not sure if comfortis is suitable for pups under 6 months? But I could be wrong, so maybe just check before you buy some
  14. Silly me, I got the wrong dates! I will log on now and check out the seats left! But i may have to wait till thursday as i am getting 4....hmmmmmm.
  15. Ohhh thanks for that. Had a look and the presale ended at 3pm today . Oh well, I will be ready for the ticket sales on thursday then!
  16. Thanks for the replies everyone. I had a feeling from the research I was doing that 6 months was too early. His breeder said the absolute earliest she would have a large breed dog desexed would be nine months so i am thinking more that age. I dont really want to leave him entire for too long as I would not want him to get out somehow and get another dog pregnant....I do not want to add to the over population of unwanted litters. Thanks again for the replies, we have alot to think about
  17. Ooooooo! How much are the tickets? And how do you buy them? I cant figure it out!
  18. Hi all, So I have a question regarding desexing in large breed dogs. Do you think there would be much difference in desexing a male ridgeback at 6 months rather than 9 months? Would 3 months really make a difference in the apperance or in the temperament/male tendancies of the dog? I would be very interested to hear peoples opinions or experiences on this difference that a couple of months can make, or do not make when desexing a male large breed dog. Thank you
  19. Hi, I would definatley recommend Adamstown vets, the trainer is so great, in fact all their staff are. Have fun with your new puppy
  20. Thank you for the relpies! Now to start shopping around
  21. Hi all, We are thinking about getting a Ute in the near future and do not like the idea of having a dog in the tray tied up. We were hoping someone could give us some idea of where we can get a cage for the back to keep the dogs restrained and safe? Thank you!
  22. Thanks so much K9 Pro! Emailing now
  23. Oh great idea TLC, I didnt even think of a sadlery! There is one just down the road from me, I will try them tomorrow :D
  24. Hi DOLers, So I bought a new leather collar from K9 pro about 6 months ago that was meant for my dogs birthday yesterday. So of course I just assumed it would fit, and tried it on him today and it is too big! So I am wondering if there is anyone who can make it smaller? I have have no idea what they would be called...a leather maker? I just want it shortened and more holes in it. Random question I know, hope someone has an answer! Thanks!
