  1. Only ouchies from one of my boys is when he is excited he loves to open his mouth in a big smile and launch himself directly at your nose....he is yet to realise that this is not a good thing to do and it actually really hurts From the over-exctied boxer I walk during the week I have had my thumb nail ripped off as he lunged at a fence and my thumb got caught in the leash and many many scratches and briuses.
  2. Sounds good, I will be ordering some for the fear DA boy tonight as well so will report back too
  3. Ooooo these sound great...I have a few questions  Has anyone used the Thunder Shirts for dogs who have dog agression due to fear? (lack of socialisation). Also do your dogs go ok in the Thunder Shirt when the wheather is warmer?
  4. Loving the photos, I check for new ones each night Very talented bubble boy, so beautiful
  5. Firstly, good on Charlie for being so calm in a stressful situation Thats a big thumbs up to your puppy raising! If it were me, I would do what you are doing with Emmy, as she is younger and may not handle the situation as well as Charlie. If your neighbour is genuinley trying to socialise the dog, maybe short walks together would be ok as long as there was no 'play' time. Just short walks with the dogs ignoring each other (ie no contact between the dogs)....but this is still very risky and its up to you if you want to take this risk. The last thing you would want is for your dogs saftey to be comprimised, or for him to have a bad experience and he would be wary of other dogs afterwards.... If your neighbour is just in it for the 'play' time and 'making friends', I would say no as they dont realise that the dog they have has a real problem...... Im no expert, that is probs just what I would do
  6. MalteseLuna, I think that your dog looks beautiful, and I love the Maltese breed. Dont ever listen anyone who puts down your breed, you know that they are wonderful and thats all that matters
  7. I am the owner of two Maltese Shih Tzu dogs, both purchased from BYB situations. Both are family dogs and I grew up with the older boy since primary school. I am now more the wiser and realise that they were from BYB's and the next dog I get will be from a reputable breeder or from a rescue organisation. Onto the topic of heath...well it can go wither way. Our old boy who is 11 is very healthy and in fact the vet said his heart sounds so good he will probably last forever . But his temperament with strangers is less than desirable, and he inherited this from his mother, who unknown to us untill months after his purchase, was human agressive. We extensivley socialised him as a pup, but this did not make much difference to his acceptance of strangers. He is however, getting much better in his old age. Our other boy, who is 4 has more health problems. He has severe luxating (sp??) patellas which will require sugery in the next year or so and a heart murmer. His temperament however is much better than the old boy even though he did not recive the same amount of socilisation as a pup. So I guess the point of this is that when buying a cross breed dog, which is what a Maltese Shih Tzu is, you really dont know exactly what you are getting and are taking a big chance health and temperament wise. Although in saying this, I love my boys and would not trade them for the anything
  8. Hi all This is thread is just purely out of intrest and stems from something I read on the net. So I read that a new puppy will copy an older dog and pick up on their good traits and also their bad traits. Does this apply all the time? A specific example that I would like to know about is, if you have an older dog who is dog agressive to new unknown dogs, will a puppy pick up on this and also become dog aggressive to new unknown dogs? If the new puppy is extensively socialised with people and dogs its whole life from the get go, will it still become DA to unknown dogs because the older dog is and it is copying behaviour? Will the pups individual nature play a role and it will not copy the older dog? I have noticed a few housholds that have dogs where one of them is DA and one isnt, and then other houses they both are DA..... I just think this is interesting
  9. Thanks heaps for that belgian.blue, I will go and attempt one now :D
  10. Hello! I thought this would be a good question for you guys who are good with picutres How do I make my photo small enough to have as my avatar? And also..how do I go about making a sig? If there are any threads on these could you please point me in the right direction? Thanks :D
  11. I have no experience with real chrissy trees, but make sure you put your good decos up high as we have lost some over the years when the boys decided it would be fun to play chasey games and grab a new oniment off the tree each time they passed it And our dogs dont even think about peeing on our tree....but the cat did once :D All the presents needed to be re-wrapped after this, lol.
  12. Oh no Inka3095, that would have been horrible! I would have thought that they would bath a dog that was dirty before desexing to minimise infection or something? But great idea about the aloe vera wipes to take away some of the stink
  13. Damn thats ashame! Yeah I will wet his back and his tummy and sit him in front of the fan which should hopefully do the trick ;) Will also go put some icecubes in his water bowl cos I think he will like to chase them round the bowl Thanks!
  14. Hi all Just wondering if its ok to get stitches wet? My boy has two lots of stitches that he got 7 days ago, and its really hot where we are so im hoping its ok to give him a nice cool bath? Thanks!

  17. Hello everyone :D Just wondering if anyone can tell me if there will be a show at Hillsbourough Show ground (just outside of Newcastle) tomorrow the 14th of November? And if there is what time does it start and finish? Thanks in advance! PS. I have cross posted this in the General area

  19. Hi koalathebear Your two pups are just beautiful, very cute video! Sorry that this is off topic but.... A little while back you had a thread about getting a kelpie pup, and I cant seem to find it? Kelpies are wonderful dogs and just wondering if you could link me to the thread about where you got him from? Thanks PS. Sorry again for going off topic!
  20. Thanks tdierikx for the info ;) I am hoping it is just the irritation from the tube at the vets, that would be much better for my boy and save him alot of discomfort. I hope that your puppies get better from their KC quickly! Must not be fun having three dogs with it! Thanks again
  21. :D im so glad Bindi came through ok! Im sure her eye will heal up in no time (and Im also sure she will lap up all the extra attention she will get, as all good dogs do
  22. I had no idea about dogs being able to catch Kennel Cough even if they had been vacinated. We walk next doors dogs for the lady who cant walk them herself (we walk them seperate form our own dogs) a couple of times a week and when she said the dogs had been sick as soon as we got home we avoided contact with our dogs, had showers and changed our clothes. But I would say he has been coughed on through the fence at some stage. But it sure is relieving to hear that KC is fairly common and not life threatning usually. Thanks so much for all the great adivce and help :D
  23. oh no...hopefully they just say that as a precaution...she will be ok, sending healing vibes to Bindi :D
