  1. Ditto. Well, I have just googled Lab x poodles and they don't quite look like Chelsea. Seems that the lab x poodles have a slightly more profuse coat. I can't imagine a lab x poodle turning out black and white either but then I am no geneticist. There are labs and poodles that turn out black and white so that is entirely possible. I am in shock nevertheless as I really believed over the last 12 mths that she was wolfhound or wolfhound crossed with something only to discover that I couldn't have been more wrong. Having said that though, I still love that girl to pieces and nothing will change that. She has a temperament to die for.

I can't imagine a lab x poodle turning out black and white either but then I am no geneticist. Being a groomer I see all the DD's in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some I would have sworn were Deerhound or Wolfhound crosses and they were most certainly Lab cross Poodles. The owners were a little surprised that they grew up to look like large hairy hounds. You can almost knock me down with a feather SBT; I was almost convinced that there had to be wolfhound in the mix. Have you actually seen lab x poodles with a sparse coat?
  3. Ditto. BC/poodle is another possibility. Wow, I have googled border collie x poodle and the resemblance is astounding right down to the colour of the eyes. The only minor difference is the coat. The border collie x poodle has a plusher coat. Here is a photo of a border collie x poodle that I have just downloaded.

  5. Are you positive? If you only saw photocopies of their registration certificates, you won't know what colour they are (unless they were coloured copies). Limited Registration and Main Registration certificates are printed on different coloured paper with different coloured ink. I have the address of the breeder. I did check with Dogs Queensland before purchasing the pup. The breeder is indeed legitimate. I specifically asked Dogs QLD to compare notes with the photocopies that I had and it is true that the photocopies I have are exactly like the originals and the originals are definitely not of limited registration. Thanks.
  6. Very sad that Tyson has to lose his leg as a result of this. So tragic but nevertheless he is loved and that is what is most important. All the best to Tyson's owners for sticking by him. I know of a few callous people that would not give a damn. Hope Tyson recovers very soon and is back to his sprightly self. Hugs to Tyson.
  7. Perhaps it is simply a case of the breeder knowing that I am situated in NSW, not QLD. Are you saying that any dog that is to partake in trials, etc...has to have reg. papers from the breeders? (not sure what you mean exactly). What about mutts performing in discipline? Until quite recently, DogsQld did not accept non-papered dogs in its performance events. They do now but I think there's a lifetime maximum of two Associate (non-papered dogs) per person that will be accepted. All other states accept non pedigreed dogs registered as Associates but that still rules out most performance events at breed specialties. Were both parents on full register? Yes, both parents are on full register. Thanks for the info.
  8. Is it just me or does this sounds dodgy as hell? I would never purchase a dog without pedigree papers unless I was adopting from a shelter or rescue group. It seems to happen quite a fair bit where puppies that are sold as pets do not always come with limited reg. papers. Is it all that important? Yes it is. If a breeder is willing to break the rules in one way, then they probably will in others. And no matter what you believe, without papers supplied you can't KNOW the breeder is registered or that the pup is pedigree. May as well pay $50 for a mutt at the pound. It costs about $30 to register a dog (on the main or limit register) and so charging stupid amounts extra for papers is a con. Most likely it's a dodgy breeder who will convince you not to get papers with the high amount because they can't actually supply them. ML, it seems to be quite prevalent where reg. breeders sell pups without limited reg. papers. I am not fussed with that although I am surprised that it is law that they must supply limited reg. papers and yet opt not to do so. I do know for a fact that this breeder is indeed legitimate as he/she sent me photocopies of the pup's parents reg. papers. No problem with mutts, there are some beautiful mutts out there but I really wanted a CKCS. Another thing I have noticed is that pups with full reg. papers are always selling for an extra $100-$200. I have never come across a pup with full reg. papers selling for an extra $30 only. Thats not the case with a lot of breeders. I can honnestly say I don't know one breeder personally who sells their dogs for more because of certain kinds of papers. Further more they shouldn't be charging more for the papers in the first place A friend had enquired about a pup and after much discussion and a fair few questions answered, she decided to go ahead with a pup. She was asked as to whether she wanted a pup solely as a pet or to breed/show. She was told that if she wanted to breed/show she would have to pay an extra $200. I found myself in the very same situation when I was out to get a CKCS. I spoke to quite a few breeders and the same thing applied. If I wanted a CKCS to breed with I would be required to pay between $200-$500 extra for full rego. I spoke to 6 breeders all up.

  12. what? I didnt say that I purchased her for half price? it would have cost me an extra $200 if I wanted full registration. I am certain that the breeder was indeed registered. My main concern is that the breeder health checks her dogs and knowing how prevalent heath problems are in this breed I am more than satisfied.
  13. So I guess that determines that Chelsea is not a purebred. I agree that they are marvelous dogs and even though she isnt a purebred she really has the most beautiful temperament. She is clever and obedient too. She got out once as the skip man literally lifted the main gates to the property (the gates were padlocked). I came home about 3 hours later only to discover that Chelsea was gone. I was soooo damn lucky that my prized arab stallion didn't get out. I was very upset and went driving all around the area in the hope that I could spot her but no such luck so I rang the local ranger just in case. I gave such a sigh of relief when she finally came home of her own accord, I was just so proud of her. She is a rescue; I have had her now for 12 mths. My partner wants me to find her a home and I am loathe to part with her. I will be taking my time as she deserves the very best. I thought I would add that she was passed onto neighbours of mine (dont know where she was from originally). I believe she was FTGH. My neighbours kept her for a short period of time and then wanted to discard her and I took her on as I was afraid she would have ended up being shot.
  14. Can't see any border collie except for the colouring but I do admit in not having any direct experience with IW. I am not sure of her height, never measured her but would guess that she may be between 18-20" tall, maybe? What do you mean by Wolfie dash?
  15. Okay, just went outside and took photos of Chelsea.
  16. shoot (for want of a better word). Just double posted.
  17. I don't want to report the breeder to Dogs Qld. I mean, the breeder was prepared to sell the pup with full rego so it isn't a case of having ulterior motives in not selling pup with limited rego; if that was the case then I would presume that there would not have been the option of having a pup with full rego. The fact remains that I have a fantastic pet and I could not be happier.
  18. It would have been nice to have limited reg. papers at least. I didn't want full registry as I have no intentions to breed or show. I was offered full rego by the breeder should I have been interested in breeding or showing but no mention of limited reg. papers. At the end of the day, no damage has been done I suppose. I do have a beautiful dog, the sort of dog with a temperament that I have always dreamed of. My other dogs are also beautiful but there is something extra special about my beautiful girl.
  19. I have taken in a dog that I believe to be of irish wolfhound origins and although I have tried to google the breed I am still a little uncertain as to whether she is purebred or not. Oh poops, I just remembered that I haven't taken any photos yet, I will do so later and post them here and hopefully I will finally know for sure. She is so clever and obedient, love her dearly. She is black & white.
  20. I purchased the pups from QLD, Vic and Melb. About 6 mths ago I bought a CKCS from QLD. She is the most awesome dog ever with a nature that is hard to beat, she is my heart dog. Healthy in every way.
  21. Yum Yum, my mouth's watering, gotta go to the shops and buy some of that sponge cake but in this case it aint for the dogs but for me. Beautiful dogs you have. I own a GR and she is adorable in every way. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BITTY!
  22. What do you mean by dx? Has the vet actually carried out a parvo test?
  23. That is so tragic to have lost a much loved pet due to the inadequacies of some idiotic vet who probably could not be bothered with isolation and having to disinfect the place against parvo. I have lost an entire litter of pups due to parvo and literally sprayed diluted white king everywhere, the walls, the floor inside the house and outside. What an insidious illness.
  24. Yeh, I am shocked that the vet let the poor staffy go home instead of putting him on a much needed drip! He may not have been dehydraded then but with the vomiting and diarrhea it sure doesn't take long for the dog to then become dehydrated. If the dog is still vomiting and having the runs I would be taking him back pronto and insisting they put him on the drip which he should have been on all along.
