  1. What's wrong with Peta? I thought they're doing a good deed overall. Perhaps I should google them and see why they appear to be disliked. No, they don't. Do a search here on DOL and you will fnd a lot of references to what they have done. In short, however, they are a loopy, publicity seeking group of propaganderists who believe that dogs should be allowed to run free in the 'wild' and that their ultimate goal is for humanity to die out completely. Just slightly nihilistic. More importantly, they have appalling PTS stats on animals surrendered to them. WHAT? Animals should be allowed to run free? I am utterly shocked that they would put animals to sleep in such high numbers! And all along I thought they were a lending their voice for the benefit of animals!
  2. Just a quick question - why do you want to feed your dogs dry food at all? I am a little sceptical when it comes to anything that is commercially made and have been even more so after the US scare when 200 pet foods including premium foods were recalled after countless dog deaths; most were recalled due to food containing melamine and cyanuric acid which caused kidney failure in dogs. I like to see what goes into the food that I feed my dogs. To each their own I suppose. If I was to feed my dogs a dry food diet I may have opted to go for Innova or California Natural but IMO nothing beats RAW or BARF.
  3. Well, this thread has been invaluable! My darling maltese, Biancha, has had tear stains ever since she was a wee pup and she is now 9 years old. I have tried just about everything and nothing has worked so I will be sure to add tomato paste and Optrex to my shopping list. Cannot wait. It would be a godsend to see my lovely biancha live up to her namesake, lol.
  4. It is very sad and I am glad that Tyson has survived this incident. I am a little disappointed in his owners though, a faulty fence and two DA dogs next door equate an accident waiting to happen. So, you blame the owners of the attacked dog not the owners of the dogs who did the attacking. The owners of the attacking dogs are most certainly to blame! They should have ensured that their dogs were unable to break through the fence and attack the dog next door; this should have entailed them approaching the neighbours and discussed ways of repairing or replacing the existing fence. I have always maintained that for as long as there is planet earth there will always be IRRESPONSIBLE and UNCOUTH PEOPLE. That will never change unfortunately. Some people can be educated but you cannot educate mugs . I stopped dreaming of a perfect world a long time ago much to my dismay. The fact though still remains is that the offending dogs were in their own property, not the same as dogs roaming loose. These DA dogs managed to break through the fence, and as I have stated before, a sturdy fence would not have made that possible, that is all.
  5. Very sad that Tyson has to lose his leg as a result of this. So tragic but nevertheless he is loved and that is what is most important. All the best to Tyson's owners for sticking by him. I know of a few callous people that would not give a damn. Hope Tyson recovers very soon and is back to his sprightly self. Hugs to Tyson. This is the post in which I commend Tyson's owners. Just a little confused as to why the problem with the fence was not rectified asap.
  6. Sorry Pockets, I wasn't aiming to hurt anyone. I was under the impression that the dogs went through the fence which is what you said on your very 1st post and then on another post you said that they broke through the pailings. I would have thought that if the fence was sturdy the dogs would not have been able to break through, that is all. My parents had an ASBT living next door who could not stand other dogs; he would bark constantly at my parent's two dogs, one being a purebred fox terrier and the other being a foxie. You could tell from his bark that he meant business. If he would have been able to break through the fence he would have gladly done so and there would have been two dead dogs and that would have really been incredibly heartbreaking for my parents. In fact this very dog somehow got out and bit a couple of students that were waiting for the school bus. I believe that the owner in this case was made to pay a substantial fine. He did get to keep his dog. I guess my honesty is something that is often misunderstood; I really don't set out to offend or upset people but I am not hypocritical and especially when it comes to animal welfare I feel an incessant need to be as honest as I possibly can. I am just so pleased that Tyson is doing well. I did also say, at an earlier post, that I commend his owners for giving him all the care necessary. Unfortunately they procrastinated in doing something about the fence and this is the end result; it could have been much worse and it so pains me to hear that another dog has been hurt and could have ended up being killed.
  7. A candle lit accompanied with a prayer. May life forever smile at Jed.
  8. Agree! By coincidence, I was just talking to the greyhound owner at the back, about how his grey girl, Princess (sister to a Qld sprint champ) is so good at reassuring small dogs she meets. When our new tibbie arrived some months back (unused to big dogs), she got a fright when Pirncess trotted up to the fence. Immediately, Princess went into a play bow & all was well. These 2 are now the closest of friends. The owner said Princess did the same thing when they came upon a small dog out walking. The little dog yelped with fright....& Princess went down into her play bow. Beautiful story. Sounds like Princess really deserves to be treated as such. What a honey!
  9. Breath of fresh air to find that some people have the balls to tell bigger dog owners to either leave or put their dogs on leashes. It really saddens me that so many dogs are losing their lives in parks; what is meant to be a fun outing turns out to be such a grim fate. History will keep on repeating itself unfortunately, there always will be people that have no sense of responsibility.
  10. Not all greyhounds ... GAP greyhounds wearing their green collar don't need to wear a muzzle in public. Oh okay, thanks Tilly. I'd love to know if these GH were wearing their green collar?
  11. It is very sad and I am glad that Tyson has survived this incident. I am a little disappointed in his owners though, a faulty fence and two DA dogs next door equate an accident waiting to happen.
  12. I would have thought that the greyhounds should have been wearing muzzles? isn't it illegal to have greyhounds in a public place without muzzles?
  13. No commendations for the owners of the chi . Their IQ must be totally non-existent.
  14. I would believe that it is up to owners of 'suspect' dogs to ensure that no harm comes to other people's well behaved dogs! How ludicrous, enough to raise my frickin hackles! I must admit though that I am also annoyed with the owners of the little dog, I would never ever place my small dog in such a predicament; I would prefer to walk away than to allow it to run off lead and run the risk of being attacked. Where are people's common sense at times? Some of you may very well think that in a park one should feel safe but this is the real world and it is far from being ideal. The moral of the story? better be safe than sorry.

  16. True enough, Kirty, that if the owners had completed the job the dog would not have gotten out and been impounded and in the end meet such a grim fate through the inadequacies of the council but sometimes dogs do get out even though the fencing is more than adequate, through someone leaving the gates open, etc. and I would hate for such a stupid mistake to repeat itself. I hope that they are made to pay for this! It is completely unforgivable! What this boils down to is that it was a foolish mistake as the poor dog was not meant to put down! I cannot even begin to understand how the council could have made such a dumb mistake! No excuses, f***wits.
  17. Thanks Steve for bringing this thread to the attention of new DOLers; I found that story every so touching, brought a tear to my eyes. Jed sounds like a truly wonderful woman, bless you Jed; nothing would make me happiest than to find that you have woken and are on the road to recovery. Your furballs must me missing you so much and even more so Chi Chi.
  18. No ticks here so therefore no prevention necessary. As for fleas, I presume that if I were to take dogs for a walk to the park they would probably collect some fleas but we live on acreages and they exercise themselves and play fetch so therefore no need for a walk in the park and we were lucky enough to purchase a property that did not have a flea infestation in the first place and I thank my lucky stars for that
  19. I could not have kept my lips zipped, I would have had to rumble something about the overpopulation of dogs that are put down on an every day basis! You would think that in this day and age that people would be more educated but alas that would be in an ideal world! People who are of the idea that they want to recoup money that they have spent purchasing their dog by breeding give me the poops!!! I did start a thread as to why some breeders sell puppies without limited rego papers as I have discovered and I also made mention that in order to purchase a pup with full papers one has to pay between $200-$400 extra and here is another example of exactly that taking place. So many posters disputed this but I always thought this was the norm.
  20. I purchased a new Toyota Hilux with a canopy back in '07 and am extremely happy with it. Great to drive, fantastic mechanically, great on fuel - a full tank gives me 500-600 kms. It is turbo diesel. Covers speed quite well too, you don't even know you are driving at a speed of 150kph which I found myself doing on the very odd occasion. Dogs have been trained to jump in the back of the canopy, no problem. Couldn't have hoped for a better car!
  21. A day all to myself? Whats that? Ive got 8 kids and 13 GRAND kids Is that 8 kids of the four legged variety or the two legged kind? HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAVE A GREAT ONE !
  22. How devastating. The fact remains that the dog was put down when it should not have. The fact that 'The council’s environment protection unit acting manager Mark Upton would not say if anyone had been reprimanded' is proof that an error has taken place irrespective of how long the owners have taken to complete the enclosure. I would be suing the bastards.
  23. Good for you but your comments are totally irrelevant. this is a dog forum and ofcourse people are going to relate to dead dogs on the tarmac, not whether or not he's sucked in enough to give his money to scientology. Who cares who he gives his dough to? That's not what this thread is about. You're right that my comments are irrelevant; that is why I said that my comment was off topic. Just an off the cuff remark basically.
