  1. Thanks judy..... Marley is at the vets at the moment, will be picking him up this afternoon :-) hopefully all goes well
  2. Hi fellow wa person...... Better pets and gardens sell most of the good quality food as do city farmers..... Good luck with your pup :-) Wizzle CONGRATS on the exciting news!!!
  3. ok just another quick update..... we recieved the results for Marley's DNA test yesterday so I thought I would let anyone interested know...... let me firstly say though, I know there is some that would say that the tests are crap, but when I did this test, I gave them no indication as to what I was told Marley was and they had seen no pictures..... therefore as far as they were concerned he could have been a maltese so anyway the results are roughly 50% staffy (which I didn't really need to be told as I can see the staffy) the other 50% is basically bitza there are some many other breeds its not funny.... and ridgeback is right at the bottom of the list which is also no suprise.... next in line to the staffy though was Australian cattle dog and bullterrier.... the cattle dog probably explains the longer fur, I am a lil disappointed that they couldn't be more specific about the rest of him, but again I am not suprised, it just means to me that his parents and grandparents were probably cross's... so there it is to anyone interested :-)
  4. so am I KTB, there is a park down the road approx 7 houses away that has some bush land next to it, but there are houses all up the road, I am surrounded by houses and road but didn't stop this snake turning up in my yard... it is a rather large deadly snake.... if it had bit the dog, I would have lost him.... it was approx 1.5metre's in length, the guy that came out to get it said he has seen them bigger than that, hopefully I never have to see one bigger than that in my backyard
  5. Ok just had a rather scary experience with my 6month old puppy and a rather large dugite (spelling?) in my backyard..... the thing came under the fence from next door and the dog spotted it and started barking like mad his hackles went up and he wanted to chase it or go after it, untill the snake turned on him and I could finally grab him and take him inside... now I know this is probably a really stoopid question, but is there a way to make the dog run FROM a snake rather than stand there barking and lungin at it, as you can imagine I could have lost my lil marley today, as had the snake struck at him it would have killed him.... I am not a lover of snakes and I am still shaking lol as I crapped myself I had to get a lil closer than I would have liked to stop the dog. my worry now is, Marley spends days outside on his own while I am at work, so I am worried if we get another visit from a snake and no-one is home to stop the dog he might get a lil to close... :-(
  6. Thanks pf no need to worry bout marley bein offloaded, for me that would be like giving up one of my kids, that might be easier ;-) kidding...... So far marley is pretty good, listens most of the time to me and all the time to OH mind u we are only at 6months lol........ Is 6 months a good age to get them desexed?
  7. generally or roughly at what age is the end of adolesence or is it different for different dogs and breeds?
  8. Hi all Marley goes in next week to be desexed, a few people have said to me "it will settle him down a bit" as i havent owned many male dogs i was just curious to know if people think this is actually the case........ I have to admit marley doesnt need alot of settling down, he is really very good apart from a couple times a day having a manic hour or so, which im pretty sure is normal hehe, im just wondering if having him fixed is going to change him much? Not that its going to change my mind he is still getting desexed.... Would just love to know what people think?? :-)
  9. that was adorable!!! This may not be relevant but I just wanted to say, Marley didn't start puppy classes (dog classes) untill he was 16weeks old due to not being able to find a good one and alot of cases of parvo in the area so not alot of people were running them..... anyway my point is, I was worried about it being to late for any skills socialising, and he had not been around many other dogs at all, so I was concerned about him just being aggessive because he hadn't been around many..... again my point is, I was worried for nothing, he was very calm, loved all the other dogs, and people, and now at nearly 6 months just wants to play with every dog he meets, pity not all of them want to play with him hehehe.... Hope that is slightly helpfull
  10. Ok cool, thanks for everyones help, he is 6 months in a couple weeks an will be goin in to be fixed around then so will ask the vet bout it then....... Thanks again :-)
  11. hi all I hope the picture turns out ok and can be seen, twas a lil difficult taking it, marley has lost I think all or most of his baby teeth now.... but his canine (I think its his canine hehe) seems to be 2 canines... from lookin at it it doesn't look like its just the baby that hasn't fallen out because it is rather big and it feels pretty solid in there, but its like he has got 2 canine teeth on his left side at the top... Has anyone else seen this and any idea's on what it is how to fix if it needs to be fixed would be great :-) hope u can see the pic
  12. same issue in my house I am primary feeder, walker, trainer OH works long hours also..... but it is clear that Marley is OH's dog, he speaks and Marley listens simple as that, if he is off the lead with OH he stays close if he looks like he is gunna run off OH calls him and he comes back.... with me he would just run off no matter what I say lol
  13. Hi all As the weather is getting warmer here in perth marley has started losing his winter coat..... it is making him slightly itchier also I am finding hair everywhere! any idea's on how long this lasts??
  14. not sure what he weigh's exactly haven't weighed him lately, but given the last time I weighed him I would imagine he is about 11 or 12 kg now.... he is still rather small (short) so don't know how much bigger he is going to get.... and yeah he still does look very puppyish, that look means he gets away with alot! hehe he is adorable looking though and yes I am very very lucky to have him in my life... love him to peices!!
  15. wizzle that video is hilarious!! tho I can understand why your husband may skin you if he knew you had posted it hehehehehehehe G is gorgeous! P.S KTB the kong wobbler looks awesome
  16. Hi TsarsMum there was a lil issue when marley was small where my daughter accidentally hurt him, then after that every time my daughter (8) went to move him if he was asleep where he wasn't meant to be he would growl at her, mainly it was when he was laying down or sleeping, he really only did it to her out of all 3 of my kids.... basically I stopped her going near him when he is sleeping or laying down, and she started feeding him at feed times, and doing some training with him, she can go pat him when he is laying down or sleeping now and he doesn't make a sound will lay there and lap up the cuddle or get up and move.... tho he still doesn't see any of the kids as above him, like you, he thinks they are his litter mates i'm sure.... the ladder in this house goes, OH is pack leader (why I don't know?? I bloody do everything for the dog!!! hehe) I am second in charge lol and the dog and kids come next.... I still have to occassionally growl at him when he gets a lil over excited with the kids and gets a lil rough for the girls but other than that he is really good Hope that has helped
  17. same I don't think Marley will ever be a dog that I can just let wander around of the lead... we go to an open oval, and I take my son (much fitter than me hehe) and I leave a long lead on him and I let him go there, he can't get tangled up in anything, and if he gets to far away and is being completely ignorant and wont come back, my son runs after him, its good coz if he gets to far from my son he can just stand on the lead and stop him gettin to far away..... here is a couple of recent pictures :-)
  18. hi all Just incase anyone was interested i thought i would post a lil update on marley Well he is 6months old nxt month (an still gorgeous!) hehe we finishd some classes bout 2 weeks ago, he passed the first stage, 2nd stage should be startin in a couple weeks, he is really very well behaved... No more problems with him growling at my youngest daughter, he thinks he is one of them hehe... I found a place 2 get DNA tests that tests what breeds they have in them, so we are waiting on the results of that, (exciting) The only thing that i am a lil worried bout is when we are walkin along a busy road he is very jumpy bout the cars goin by very skitish, not to much of a prob when he is on a lead but i worry that if he was ever to get onto a road on his own, his skitishness would force him in front of cars, any ideas on fixing this would be much appreciated  Anyway hope u enjoyed the update
  19. Hey KTB I will post update on Marley in the next few days with some new pics he is doing well though.... we went to the beach last weekend, he wasn't interested in going in the water which is a lil disappointing but maybe he might give it a go next time hehe
  20. omg that was awesome sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo CUTE!!!!!!
  21. unfortunately it is a lil difficult to have him in a area where he cant bury his bone.... he is given the bone in the morning when he is put outside for the day, its kinda a treat for going outside hehehe my partner works shift work so he sleeps during the day, so marley has to stay outside (cant be trusted in the house on his own) if he isn't given anything and he knows someone is home he tendst to whine at the door to be let in, so the bone is kinda black mail hehe... this morning I put some food in an empty water bottle, to keep him occupied, and I am almost positive he has buried that aswell??? I can't find it outside anywhere..... so if he is burying things coz he isn't hungry is 1 feed a day enough?? meaning the evening feed?? I worry that that isn't enough
  22. Hi All Just a couple of quick questions..... today i took Marley to have his claws clipped as he was scratchin everyone to peices.... it turned into a wrestling match, I have been very on top of making sure he isn't sensitve about his feet, i touch his feet all the time and he is fine with me touching them, however I bought one of those nail file things in the hope of doing them myself, he would not be in it, the noise it makes makes him want to attack it so he wont let me near him with it, therefore I took him to the groomer today to have them clipped, he just would not sit still and let them do it, so my question is how do I make this less stressfull for him and me? second question, in the mornings I give marley a meaty bone for his breakfast, (this is probably a stoopid question) he has it outside, he likes to burry the bones dig them up a few days later and then eat them, when he digs them up they stink??? ok so my concern is I give him the bone as his breaky but he chooses not to eat it at that time, he is down to 1 meal a day, coz after that, other than a few training treats he doesn't eat again till dinner time, is it possible to stop him burrying them? Thanks in advance
  23. ah ok, thanks all, realistically he could be anything, the only thing i can see is the staffy. Wish there was a way to know for sure
  24. Sorry to keep bringing this post up and being a pain, but I just wanted to add this photo and see what ppl think, appart from having no ridge to speak of, the hair on his back is kinda wavey, I don't know if staffy's have this, but I am pretty sure that ridgebacks don't, and even kelpie's? so anyway here is a photo of his back near his tail SecretKei, I am no expert on ridgebacks but about 7yrs ago I had a corgi x ridgeback, she looked like a slightly taller thinner corgi, but she had such a defined ridge on her back, so I would have thought if there was ridgeback wouldn't he have the ridge?
  25. hi secretkei... No didnt see either parents (long story, not really desirable people) they said mum was staffy ridgeback cross only an dad was a pure staffy from up the road that got into there yard :-/.... He was 8.5kg on tuesday, he is startin to get a very square face
