  1. Dju: i went and did a price comparison as if i owned Hugo Would cost me $150 (with change) a year! i buy my intestine worm tablets from the vet $2 a 10kg tablet or $3.50 for a 20kg
  2. Heart worm is $30 for 6months. intestine worms is $2 a tablet that covers up to 10kg - for hugo you would need 4 tablets a year = $8 (because its every 3 months doseage) i buy mine from the vet (and i buy a whole jar full cause i have 4 dogs) i have worked out my budget and i spend $200 a year on each of my dogs for: Advantix for 12months Heartguard for 12months intestine tablets from the vet for 12months ** and my dogs weigh nearly 3x as much as hugo. there is no tick leading product that solely covers ticks (that i have been able to find)
  3. Holden, Ford, Toyota, Nissan = they all build cars but everyone has a preference. At the end of the day they get you from A to B Health products for dogs are the similar - you pik what you prefer and feel confident with
  4. i would ONLY ever recommand Advocate to a owner who lives in really cold climates and there are NO TICKS or very inner city dwellers. Because then Advocate covers everything else (heart worms and intestine worms). sorry but im very adamant about protecting my dogs from ticks
  5. Dju: This is the Bayer Animal website that makes these products - the link will take you straight to the comparison page. quick summary: Advantage = fleas and lice Advantix = Fleas, Lice, Mosquitoes, Sandflies, Stable flies, Ticks Advocate = Demodectic Mange, Ear Mites, Fleas, Heartworms, Hookworms, Lice, Roundworms, Sarcoptic Mange, Whipworms FYI - there is no excellent product on the market that only covers ticks. Hence why i use Advantix and deal with the worms in other products
  6. Just thought id comment and share some experiences You get lots of different opinions but they all amount to the same result. its all about persistance. example: mother is the the supermarket and her kid crys for a lolly, mother says 'no', kid crys harder, mother buys the kid a lolly..... kid learns if cry long enough i get what i want. you need to be firm with your choices and be adamant that your the boss and what you say goes. Dogs are really smart and will try to find a way to get what they want over you. you must establish pack aurthority as soon as possible (with consideration that Hugo is only a puppy). All behavourists and 'puppy schools' will say 'dont play tug-o-war' because as a puppy its a play game of pack order. Its recommand that unless you use tug-o-war as a reward system, say for agility - its recommanded to NOT play this game with your puppy. i think almost all puppies ive met are 'bitey' i used to go over my friends house who her parents breed shelties and the used to noom on my fingers - puppies dont know any better and this is how they think 'play' is incorporated with humans. Again persistance will remove this nail cutting...... must admit this is the only grooming ritual i hate doing - lucky for me i have a friend who is a groomer and she does this for me. try next time - cut one nail, give treat, cut another nail, give treat. put something really fun in between each cut. on a daily basis i pick my my dogs paws and simply 'handle' them, do get use to the handling experience - never know when ill have a judge who picks up the feet (which i have had once) my gals arent 'thrilled' by the experience but will let me. puppies should be wormed every 2 weeks untill 12weeks old. then every month for heart worms and every 3months for intestine worms. i buy my heart worms in bulk off line - i use Heartguard. Which my gals think is the bomb - super yummy liver flavored treats. With the intestine worm tablets i buy raw mince and roll little balls with the tablet in the middle and my gals (as puppies) have always scoffed these down i use Advantix (which i buy in bulk off line too) for my dogs on a monthly basis to protect them from fleas and ticks (which can make a puppy really sick and in really bad case - kill them) ticks kill adult dogs if not found fast enough.
