  1. Ok here's a question:

Does anyone else's pups do loud and/or stinky farts?

All my dogs have a really good diet.

Chester does little cute trumpet farts that don't usually stink

Lola does silent but violent ninja farts that make you clear the room.

Envy can do both. She has been doing loud farts all the time and its so cute but I've never had a dog do audible farts so often. She will often fart as she sits when you tell her to sit

But right now she was laying at my feet and doing stinky ones without sound. Grossss!

  2. Have bought quite a few things for Nixon online now, but this was an especially good experience.

And for an example of how good their prices are - they have furminators for $25! I don't know how it's possible, but they do.

What!? I paid $75 for mine! That's awesome! Off to browse their site....

yep same, watching my latest pay check disappear at the same time :D

Nooo Jack!! Don't use a furminator on an Aussie!! You'll destroy his coat! Buy an undercoat rake instead, nothing that cuts!

This is true. the furminator cuts the guard hairs. They can also pull on the hair too much. I like the undercoat rakes with rotating ends to prevent pulls

  3. Don't freak out! How old is Hank now? (sorry if I missed it)

Envy started barking at the odd dog or person recently but just because she is getting older and more confident. Just keep asking for behaviours you can reward. Practice your focus and obedience and act like the other dog is no big deal.

  4. Hi Hankodie,

These videos explain it well I think

    Part 1 - http://www.youtube.c...h?v=hOuwZcqnwcs

    Part 2 - http://www.youtube.c...h?v=3kjywxm-O6I

    Part 3 - http://www.youtube.c...h?v=QjWBnJ69FDM

I believe Envy just had a fear period at around the 12 week mark. she seemed more sensitive to things that she was fine with a few days before. I just kept going like normal making positive experiences and avoiding anything too scary and she continued on as normal within a week or so.

  5. After meeting and spending about 30 seconds with my 10 week old malinois puppy she says: "oh what is this breed? I want one of these... or a mastiff" Didn't take her long to change her mind

About a 12 week old BC x GSD puppy on their back patio: "See what we are going through, he KNOWS he's not supposed to be on that patio" I asked, "is he getting through the fence?" Her reply: "oh there's no fence. He just knows."

Or telling me little dogs are so aggressive because they snap at her mastiff cross when it runs off to them on lead and they are on a lead and can't escape

There are a lot of funny stories here but the idea of tossing up between a Malinois and Mastiff really has me laughing

Well you know they do have similarities... they both have paws for instance, and they can both be a fawn colour... I'm sure there must be more

I know right, that got me too. I was like, "errrrmm, well they are majorly different breeds so what exactly are you looking for??"

  6. Urgghhhhh!!!

Just went and got coffee with Nova, as I was walking back to the car a lady is coming up the street with a weimaraner, I could tell straight away the dog was not happy so I kept Nova next to me and kept a far distance between us. Then she starts heading straight towards me saying 'Say hello!!!" Her dog is already showing its teeth at Nova!icon_smile_mad.gif

I yelled at her to look at her bloody dog and quickly scooped up Nova and walked away.

GAH! I HATE that! This happens so much. They are basically saying "hey m,y dog has issues so i think it needs to "socialise" more by being in your dogs face so I'm going to bring it up to your dog without permission and use your dog as a guinea pig to see what happens"

    Idiots!

  8. I was worried when we got Envy that it would be hard to juggle time between the 3 dogs. However it is working out really well and I think all of them are getting more time spent with them than ever. I walk and train Envy separately and she spends most her time separated from them too. I then do most of Chester and Lola's stuff together. I got a springer bike attachment and I have been running Chester and Lola either together or one at a time and it wears them out so well and is a faster efficient way to get some intense exercise in for them. They love it and so do I! We have been taking Envy out a lot for socialising and training then the other two hang out together at home. It's working better than I thought but it does seem like I'm spending extra time with everyone, which is fine by me :)

  9. Lollipup, Hunter is incredible gentle. I was impressed that Envy was quite subdued too. I love Envy's colouring - will she stay with the dark face and tail and the lighter body?

Yes it was some nice calm play. Hunter is 8 months old :) Envy's face has gotten lighter on the top part of the black and could get a bit lighter still. I like it how it is. The rest of her could go lighter or darker but going from her parents I'd say she'll be a red mahogany colour with darker chest, face and tail.

  10. Two of my doggy friends came up from Brissy to see me this weekend. One stayed with me with her GSD Dexter, and the other visited on Saturday with one of her WL GSDs, Hunter. They came to my classes and we did some training after class and just chilled out in the shade for a while too. Check out Envy and Hunter playing at the start of this video. So cute. He was so gentle with her

  11. Hankodie, Have you asked your question to your trainer? I'm sure they can help.

Is Hank at teething age? This can put them off as they are sore so they should have a break between 4 to 6 months. My other tips are:

    - Don't stress about it

    - Be really exciting. Act like you really want to play with the toy and have a genuine interest in it and want to share the fun with him

    - If he is losing interest a lot, try letting him win the tug a bit more often

    - End the tug game and put the toy away when he wants more

    - Don't let him have access to the tugs unless you are playing with them and to make them more exciting you can take away his other soft toys that he may be choosing as a preference.

    - Start with softer tugs and work up gradually but it is important to teach all different tugs so he doesn't only prefer one type of surface. Try using a rag to get his interest up. Make the prey item come alive and get him to chase it, then tug.

Hope some of these have been helpful. PM me any time :)

  12. Lollipup, Envy looks like she is exceptionally well behaved! Can you come here and help train Hank!? I've never seen a dog so chilled out around a horse, you're obviously doing a fantastic job getting Envy used to other animals.

Thank you. I would hope I have some idea what I'm doing since I train dogs for a living lol. I would be happy to come see you if you were closer! Also, it's easy to make things look great on camera. She is good but she isn't perfect. none of my dogs are. :)

Thanks lollipop :) I think the same of Envy, I think she will be a very regal looking dog!

She did very well for such long trips so early!

Nova is with me in the car almost every day to go somewhere, quite often he falls asleep after a few minutes but this will be our first trip that last more than an hour since I bought him home.

Trying to work out how often to stop, I'm planning on stopping at Cowras new dog park that Tapua organised, it's pretty nice!

I need to start introducing Nova to horses, he's met some sheep and cows from behind a fence, but my good friend is off on exchange and when she comes back he will probably be near her horse some times. Her horse is great with dogs but I don't know anyone elses that is.

Hankodie, Every time he gets bathed he runs for that chair and tries to dry himself on it, then I have to continue drying him on the chair otherwise he does zoomies lol. The chair must be his safe place.

I'm sure it won't take long at all until Hank find his inner retriever :)

Sounds like Nova will do great on your road trip! If he will chew on something in the crate while travelling that would be a good idea too as long as he doesn't get car sick when he eats. One thing with Envy is because I have a van and she is in the crate in the back, she doesn't get to travel at a window and look out very often so I've been trying to let her have a go and she definitely isn't very into it yet.

Oooh I forgot! Nova is getting a professional studio photo shoot while I'm back home :)

I wanted to do one before he hits the puppy uglies.

I can't wait to see them!

  13. Thank Lollipup! How did Envy take your road trips?

It's amazing how fast they grow.

Ahhh! What a good dog and horse!! How did you manage that?

Thanks Lisa. Nova is looking more handsome by the day!

Envy was great on the road trips! The day I got her was a 6 hour drive home and then we did a trip to brisbane when she was 10 weeks old which is 6 hours there and back plus she stayed at a friend's house for a night. She has had to go in the car a lot with me from day one so she just sleeps in her crate then we stopped every couple of hours for toilet breaks. She did well.

Goldie the horse is good with dogs thank goodness, means I only really have to work on the dogs. I've been taking Envy out there and just hanging out and rewarding focus to make sure she is ok with the horses and calm and confident. She is maybe too confident now! went a little close to the feet today, just having a sniff. And she has no boundaries with taking poor Goldie's food and she loves it. They were sharing the bowl today. Neither of them really enjoyed Envy on Goldie's back but they dealt with it well lol

All of your puppies are just gorgeous. Makes me want another...until I remember how much hard work they are. Still, there is nothing quite like a new puppy to make you go aaawww!

They make you go awwwww! and they also make you go. "Why did I do this?" "Not having puppies again" and "What was I thinking?!" Until next time the awwww part takes over and you find yourself with another. Magical powers they have.
