  1. We have a new Golden Retreiver Puppy, 1 week home and we are trying to train him to be ok outside. He is very attached to us/humans and when outside will start crying, jumping on the door and running between backdoor and sidedoor trying to get us to let him in. He hasn't used his kennel as we have him sleep inside and was intending the kennel to be used so he would have something during the day when we both go back to work. We have been told to put him out for 10minutes and then when quiet let him back in then keep making it longer and longer BUT after 5-10min he is still making noise and jumping on the screen door etc. ANy advise would be great. THanks
  2. thanks for ideas and advise Any suggestions for stopping puppies from jumping on you you/furniture? trying to train them to not do this?
  3. Hi Everyone, We have got our new Golden Retriever Puppy and been home 2 days now. First day was very timid as taken away from his family into a new home etc. but the 2nd day he was much more playful and puppy like. Few questions and hopefully some advise would be great. 1. Ideas or way to train your dog to be ok outside on his own, if you go out etc. 2. To stop your puppy from trying to chew furniture and/or anything else THanks for your help Thomo

  5. This might sound stupid but... prefix? We have been waiting a few years to get a dog and we have just settled into a new place and everything is lining up
  6. yeah i am going to use the wooden extendable ones as well but i need one for the bottom of a staircase that has a gate so its easier to get up and down the stairs. Bit more expensive though like $100 instead of $20.
  7. i just see the insurance company as a bonus. In my case i will be paying $300ish a year for my pet insurance for 1 dog. If by chance something bad goes wrong and he has surgery and i get money back then BONUS but if its something i can't claim then i lose my $300 anyway.
  8. at what age can a dog be de sexed? pretty much straight away?
  9. yeah bought a couple of ebay last night, 2 for $30 which is pretty cheap and then might head down to target and see what they have in stock, if not much then internet it will be.
  10. He is so cute!! Kate calls him a little Buddah because he has a big bumb he was awesome! can't wait.
  11. yeah that could be tough... i guess online stores would be a good way to go? but then frieght would be an issue.
  12. i can understand where you are coming from but i think in our situation it would be easier and safer for us to pay the monthly premiums... but i know what you mean about the saving etc. would be nicer that way
  13. Just wondering if anyone is a part of this club and has any comments they would like to pass on, good or bad etc. We are looking to sign up sometime soon with our new pup on the way
  14. Ebay looks great for getting Kennels!! much cheaper! Toys and stuff i found a website from the banners above http://www.petshop-online.com.au, they look pretty good but i think with toys etc. most shops will be the same.
  15. Yeah after all the discussions and issues raised i still am going to go with Medibank Pet Insurance, i get all major surgery plus routine care. I know its more expensive for non medibank members BUT for members with the discount it works out a bit cheaper than most other places if not the same. I just want it there for a backup plan because we don't have huge credit card limits and wouldn't be able to afford some things and if Medibank can cover those things then i am happy, its all about my new Pup from now on
  16. yep will get my dad around and we shall do some work
  17. yeah gives us some time to prepare, fun stuff Have to put some timber along the back fense though, into the ground, make sure can't get out, they like to dig as most dogs do.
  18. just cannot wait to bring him home!! 3 weeks..... don't know if i can wait that long. We re going to visit him as much as we can though.
  19. think this would be big enough for a golden retriever from puppy to adult? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...=tab%3DWatching
  20. Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows of some places and brands of indoor fencing to stop a dog/puppy from going onto the carpet? We live in a rental property so whatever we use can't be mounted etc. and each gap is perhaps 0.5 - 1m wide. Thanks
  21. Hi Everyone, We have made our deposit on our puppy golden retriver today!! we get to bring him home September 12th :D Can't wait! gives us time to set things up for him at home so he is happy and as comfortable as he can be. We have named him Leo. Just came to us but then we noticed its his star sign too, PERFECT! I would like to say thankyou to all those who helped with advise on choosing puppies and breeders etc. was great. This website is very very good. These are some pics of him and his brothers and sister, enjoy.
