  1. to be honest i am not sure about the bank transfer thing.... i guess you could but from when you transfer the money to when they receive it they might feel they could have sold the pup to someone else, if you know what i mean. Like you can send emails saying you have transferred the money but not 100% they can beleive me etc. I have the cash and if we get there and we fall in love with a puppy and we are happy, then i don't see the point of going to the other breeder..... Thanks, so excited!
  2. I am looking at Medibank Private. From what i can read and have heard from different people they are good. They are cheaper than most other companies, going for Gold Paw Coverage which includes routine care for $29 a month. Thats with a 10% discount cause i am already a Medibank Member.
  3. hi everyone, Thanks for all your advise and suggestions! will look into them all! especially the local advise, comes in very handy. We live right around the corner from Petstock in South Morang and the new pet store in Westfield. We haven't visited Petstock yet but might do that soon. Thanks to everyone again
  4. Hi everyone, Sorry was in bed when you guys replied. Yes going to visit two breeders today and hopefully make a deposit on a puppy we fall in love with and are happy with. So what i gather is: - choose a dog that doesn't leap up to you but doesn't sit in the corner all shy, go for the middle. - choose from a breeder that will talk to us and answer questions, which they both have via phone & email already/ - make sure to get certificates on all elbow, hips, heart & eyes - ask about after we buy support - make sure they are registered I think we should be good in choosing. Done it before a fair while ago with a Jack Russell and she turned out great. We are visitng one breeder this morning then going to another in the afternoon. The only thing i am worried about it going to the first one, falling in love with a puppy, putting down a deposit and then not going to the 2nd breeder and missing out on something. Only reason we can't do both and then decide is because they are a long way apart and we live a fair way from them and we really want to put a deposit down so we don't miss out and can get out puppy when we want, as plenty of breeders are having pups in a few months but we don't want to wait that long. Sorry long reply.
  5. What to look for when going to look at Golden Retriever Puppies? What characteristics to look for? what to stay away from? etc
  6. thats the way to think about it i think and if you do claim and they pay it out then happy days
  7. I was thinking Medibank but they are underwritten by Hollard as well, they aren't any good?
  8. thats fair enough.... but.... say $30 a month, so thats $360 a year for the idea of saving yourself say thousands of dollars.... its just a backup plan in my head.... if the company doesn't claim it then yes use your credit card and be thankful you have it but if they do claim it then HAPPY DAYS...
  9. Insurance - I only was out of pocket $100 (the excess). With insurance though you foot the bill at the time and then claim it back, unless your vet agrees to claim directly (vast majority don't do this). So it is worth having an emergency credit card for this situation. So i understand the insurance thing properly.... You go to the VET, they say it will be $4000, you pay $4000? then take the bill to the insurance and they pay you back $3900? that correct?
  10. Megan... were you covered by insurance? or had to foot the bill?
  11. i am getting a new puppy and i am looking into the whole insurance side of things and i am with Medibank and they seem pretty good and i get a 10% discount cause i am already a member BUT saying that i have heard from our future VET that alot of companies do reject claims and sometimes better off not paying for it and saving. Although if you came across a $5000 more operation i sure couldn't pay for it so i would HOPE my insurance would meaning at least there is a backup plan with insurance and if they can't help you either then at least you have exhausted your options... I know doesn't sound great but hey gives you backup perhaps. My opinion only.
  12. Our puppy golden retriever is coming from two possible breeders, visiting both of them tomorrow hopefully and will put a deposit down on a puppy yay! I don't think we will go the crate way but definetly need to get a kennel etc. Will look into ebay for sure and will have a look at Diamond creek when and if i get chance to head up that way. Does the Pet Bath Store in Diamond Creek sell kennels etc.? any ideas of size for a golden retriever? large? Will get into the whole social thing for sure! want to our pup to be as social as it can be while young. Its mainly the big items we want to find cheaper somewhere like the kennel and bedding, toys and leads etc are cheap enough not to worry about.
  13. well we are getting a new puppy golden retriever hoprefully by mid September and want to get everything ready. So like: Kennel Bed for inside Toys Lead Bowl etc etc Pretty much everything good fun buying for a dog
  14. Hi, Anyone know the better Pet Suppliers in the South Morang area? (northern vic) Plenty of pet stores like "Petstock" & "Petbarn" but they probably charge an arm and a leg for things. Thanks
  15. i got told of another place through our VET that we will use.... www.dogsolutions.com.au They are based in Epping and that would be great cause its very close to us.
  16. perfect I can see how it will cut down on the paperwork etc. I will be taking our puppy straight to the VET and getting him checked out and possibly microchipped if they will do it at 8/9 weeks. Thanks for everyones help & was super fast!!
  17. ok cool. So you have to mircochip and register your dog before 12 weeks old but the breeders don't specifically have to mircochip thier pups before selling them? Probably easier this way as you don't have to transfer ownership details etc. Just do it when you get it done. Thanks
  18. from what i gather a puppy doesn't have to be microchipped in Victoria.... and yeah will get the puppy chipped ASAP Thanks
  19. found this on Dogs Victoria: What you should expect from the person who sells you a puppy: •A vaccination certificate which shows vaccinations given, when the next ones are due, and evidence of the puppy's age (it is against DOGS Victoria's Code of Ethics to sell a puppy under 8 weeks of age). •ANKC Registration Certificate (papers) •When it was treated for worms and how often it needs to be treated in future •A feeding chart •Information on the puppy's likely nature, temperament, size and care requirements. •Details of any hereditary diseases or health problems which are known to affect the breed. •Information on responsible pet ownership, in particular care and welfare of the puppy, the time and facilities required for proper management (socialisation, exercise, adequate fencing, sufficient space and proper shelter)
  20. Hi, Just wondering if it is a breeders choice to microchip a puppy before selling? or doesn't really matter as anyone can get a dog microchipped. The puppy we are looking at comes with: Dogs Victoria Registered Immunised Wormed Vet Checked Thanks
  21. Hi, We are getting a golden retriever puppy mid September and as a pup we can take care of the grooming and washing etc. but when he is a bit bigger we may, only may, look into getting a professional to do so. Does anyone have suggestions on who or what company is good with golden retrievers? know what they are doing etc. There are plenty or companies out there that can groom and wash a dog but do they know different breeds? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
  22. how things change, we have decided to go away from the beagle (how very hard it was) to get a golden retriever. We love both breeds but just think a GR would be more suited to us. We look to get our pup mid September and will be booking our training puppy-pre school once confirmed getting our pup. Thanks
  23. Hi, Thanks for the info and will have a look. We haven't got our puppy yet but very eager and trying to hunt down breeders with pups available around mid to late September, whihc we think we have found Thanks again
  24. Hi, We live in the South Morang/Mill Park area of Victoria and looking for a dog training center. We came accross "A Perfect Spot" and was wondering if anyone has been or heard any good or bad things? We are getting a Beagle Puppy and want to start training as soon as possible. Any information would be great. Thanks Thomo
