  1. Snow Wolf, that is not entirely true. Most Greyhounds are very lovely, however they were muzzled for a reason. Training methods and socialisation of Greys was very different 30 years ago. Greyhound organisations in this country have worked very hard to only rehome dogs that are safe to be pets. It would be a huge shame if the level of what is acceptable was to drop, resulting in poor-temperamented Greyhounds being released to the general public. Some Greyhounds do have VERY high prey drive and are not suitable to walk without a muzzle.

Every racing greyhound i've ever come across has been fine.

I just never believed they should be singled out like that. Every breed has a few dogs that are likely to bite someone.

  2. Great story, but probably not true. All the 'ashes' I've seen come out of a crematorium had pretty good chunks of bone in them and couldn't be mistaken for coke.

    That's why I found it odd. :D

Unless they were already too high to notice?

Druggo's... How high do you think their IQ could possibly be?

  3. Another thread in general has inspired me to ask this question. Please be honest with your answers.

So, have you ever disliked or hated a particular dog?

My answer is no, not up until a few months ago. Now I do and I can't help it.

My dad has a 10yo tibbie X pom whom I've always adored, she was always my fave of his four pooches, up until a few months ago. She has started attacking my girls whenever they are around her. It's gotten to the point that we can't have them visit dads place. She attacked my old cattle dog one night very badly and ripped her face up. My poor old girl is very sick and her back legs gave out so she couldn't even get up to defend herself. Dads dog has also ripped my toy poodle from my arms and tore her ears to pieces. She has become very aggressive and I don't trust her anymore. I'm not comfortable with my daughter being around her now.

I have never once hated or disliked a dog, never, but I can't help but dislike this dog now. I know it's not right to feel this way but I can't help it. I'm aware she is being a dog but it seems so nasty when she stalks and attacks, it's like she has pure hatred for my two. She will even do this at our place so I know it's not a territorial thing. She is not like this with dads other three bitches nor is she like this with my male dogs.

So yeah I'm pretty ashamed to admit it but I really don't like this dog. Has anyone else come across a pooch that you just could not help but dislike?

    Menopause...

  4. Actually, the point I made, and others make, is that if the poster chooses to describe the act of cruelty in the subject line then you do see it, whether or not you even open the In The News forum, because the most recent topic sits in the Discussion Forums area.

The problem is that if the OP doesnt give an indication of the content in the subject heading people complain that there wasnt a warning. It's a no win, really.

Or people could just grow up??? Its not the end of the world, because you read a word that is a little unsettling such as "death"...

Unfortunately this is the world we live in. These things happen, as unfortunate, shocking, and disgusting as they can be, they do happen.

There's no point having a cry because you read about it on some web forum, and its shaken you up a little bit. How about thinking what those animals, and people go through when these things happen. Im sure that they would all beg to have just read about it on the internet one day instead.

  5. I cant stand people who do this to pass their spare time...

It reminds me of when i was a kid. About 10 years old. And some other kids in the street were chasing a cat with sticks, and hitting it. When i saw it, i told them to stop being cruel to it. One of them replied "Its just a stupid animal, it doesnt have feelings"...

That blew me right over the edge, so i went inside, got changed into my batman costume, and went outside and beat him up with quite a large stick. (Or it might have been a cricket bat, cant really remember)... I never saw them pick on another animal ever again. :)

  6. Why are there so many gory topics in this section ?

Whenever I look in this section I am struck by how gory and horrific the news items are. Is this necessary ? I am as sad and distressed about the cruelty cases talked about here as the people who respond but why is there a big lack of other news ?

I think if you read all the topics in this section you would be frightened to leave your pets alone for a minute and a bit paranoid about strangers and walking your dogs alone as well.

In general people are good, the majority do love animals or are at least interested in them and mean them no harm.

I think focussing on animal cruelty is sick. It should be dealt with by the authorities and justice served, but a forum is a strange place for it.

This is the "In the news thread"... Quite frankly, every time average joe gives "buddy" a scooby snack, It isn't going to hit headlines. Unfortunately, because the posts here are to subject related, the majority of article that will be posted here will be acts of cruelty, or other "shocking" news... Of course, occassionally, there will be great feats, which will bring joy to your day to read. Such as the thread about the oldest living dog.

But this is the way the world works, and good news doesnt sell, anywhere near as well as bad news will, thus wont be reported.

That being said, there is nothing forcing you to be exposed to the "grim" topics. And it is your choice, and yours alone, whether you open those pages...

If you're looking to engage in a conversation that is more light-hearted, visit the general discussion page. And once your post count reaches 150, you will have acess to the off topic section. Usually some good stuff to talk about in there if u want to stray (no pun intended) away from dog-talk.

  7. Disgusting vile creature. I saw the video, and have seen the photos on FB. She is actually smiling as she holds a dog up that has been almost severed in two and completely gutted. How can 1 do that, and smile about it? If this is what she finds amusing and entertaining now, than a few years down the track, who knows what she will be into. Its only going to escalate, this is how serial killers start...

Im glad she's been found. I dont want to say what i think should happen to her, but it is of the worst nature i could possibly imagine.
