UK heelwork requires your hand on your left hand side. It is very different requirements than here in Oz. -

Australian Obedience Team At Crufts 2012?
PAX replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We're back and all very tired. The dogs are at AQIS and i know will be spoilt until we get them back. It was a wonderful experience, cant believe we did it. I dont have any video yet only of some training at Crufts, but should have some in a few days. -
I have never doubted aus post until i sent a DOL Secret Santa gift, thankgodness by registered post, one of the postal workers stole it by video footage....been cautious ever since.
-
Its Mia Scogster i think you mean.
-
Not if you separate them. Lol, i think first things....just got the puppy today, toileting on cue and playing with me.
-
M2S,I didnt think you chase her when your cross with her, i meant dont chase her ever, even if you think its a game, thats a game you dont want dogs to learn. The game needs to be that the dog chases you.Anyway, if you need my help, just send me a pm:)
-
Mumtoshelley,Did you get my pm?
-
M2S,Please dont use an electric collar on her:(You should also never chase her, even if she loves it, you need to teach her to chase you.....or else the tail is wagging the dog. Dogs are not stubborn, they just always work to the reinforcement. It sounds like the wrong match for you unless you can find a GOOD trainer to help you and one that understands sight hounds.
-
You need to satisfy her drive, maybe lure coursing or teaching her to chase and fetch. When shes in the house keep her on leash so you control her interaction with the cats. Ive owned two whippets and had a very good retired racing grehound as house dogs, none have ever annoyed my cat, that is off limits, sight hounds are soft and easily learn right from wrong, you do need to release that chase desire some other way or you arent ready for a sight hound.
-
Is that why drug dogs are housed in kennels Dasha : Nekhbet : But what about the on/off switch for drive? Don't you think a dog would know a game can only be won if a game is "on"? Otherwise, what about protection training .... I mean, you can't reward a dog for biting someone when it wasn't commanded. Exactly, if you haven't asked for it, it should get ignored. Need to have a like button:)

Hey Dasha, dont you work for AQIS? Forgot to add

Tha'ts so good to know. All of the WL breeders I know have waiting lists for the pups and don't breed until they have a demand. I was so worried for these puppies when you were posting about them, hard to find the right homes for WL pups. Anyway glad they all got homes, hopefully nice homes.:D -

here's the applause you're obviously vying for. On flat terrain she is very fast. As I have said a few times, this was nothing more then impromptu fun and if I want to talk in that manner to my dogs when we're out MUCKING AROUND AND JUST HAVING SOME FUN then where's the law against it. As for how supposedly rubbish my dog is compared to yours I think come down and meet her, and know her genetics before making insinuations like that. Have a read of the thread again you will see why I posted the video. This is not an obedience dog from Sch1 lines. Once again, this is my previous malinois who I asked to jump a waist height fence on command ... what, in about 2007? By the way the other one is tan with a black mask, this young bitch I also have now is a totally different colour and shape. I never wanted a competition and I dont know why it turned into one. Everyone's dog is individual I dont know what bug Pax got up her butt in the first place. If I wanted a Nordenstamm dog I would have bought one. Ouch, sensitive muchly. -

As in Nordenstamm Prix? My bitch doesnt need to learn how to jump, she's got her grandfathers genetics to help her do that. I'd rather her do what she's doing, I don't have anything to prove with a dog that flings itself into novel situations and hurts itself. Dont you have youtube clips of her jumping a fence? -

If I told my dog to fetch, he would, I wouldn't need to "ready spaghetti" him, he would just want to get it for me as fast as he could. I wouldn't risk him hurting his paws and mouth on that rock and wire terrain as I know how hard and fast he tries to do what I ask. N, if thats what you like and want, bless you, but I dont get why you would post that clip if relation to the OP. Isn't this a PP topic. -

I believe in teaching a dog patience. It wasnt a race it was helping her to be deliberate in her actions through play. I had actually started just tossing the same stick about in the area around for her to find and progressed up to this. I don't believe in 'Malinois speed' and a dog hacking itself up, they don't have to spend life wound up like energizer bunnies. Sorry, did I do something horribly terribly wrong playing with my dog? Well in my opinion yes you did. My dog has patience, he doesn't eat my car or house as you have said yours does. But if I say fetch, he goes at it hard, seeking my reward, as he should. I wouldn't risk him being hurt ....EVER. Rocks and wire are not a good risk or training enviroment for a working dog IMO, but maybe my dog has more commitment to training than yours. My dog certainly doesn't spend his life wound up like an energiser bunny. -

Is this the reason Germany has dumped German Shepherds from the forces, swapped to Malinois:) -

They refused to stand up so she shall forever be a Womble :p That was under a roadbridge, she's learning sure footing and to search for things in awkward situations as well as novel sounds (reverberating traffic noise of passing cars, echos etc). She was over 12 months when we did this and it wasnt for long. She comes from a long line of mountain goat Malinois  if there is something to clamber over she will. Her mother managed to make it up onto the roof of the breeders house one day O_o If I didnt believe she was capable of doing it safely I wouldn't have her doing it. Well I'm sure my Mal would of cut his feet and mouth to bits doing that at Malinois speed, something I wouldn't risk, maybe once but not multiples. And I wouldn't be saying ready spaghetti...... -

Whats going on with her ears? And why are you playing fetch games on rocks and wire?
