  1. Well as far as I'm concerned dogs should be allowed everywhere!

Personally, I really dislike seeing dogs in places serving food or places with a lot of children around. There are certain places that clearly aren't appropriate places to walk dogs- just like there's places you wouldn't take children. It's not discrimination, just common sense.

And whats with the beaches that don't allow dogs??? Crickey my dogs love the beach more than anywhere on earth...if they pooh so what! Clean it up...if not the tide will take it away..big deal.

Lovely. In the mean time, it gets stepped in or someone's child touches it. I can see why most councils choose to restrict dog access on beaches and other public land.

Well duh I meant clean it up on a city beach where there are other beach goers. The beaches we usually go on there are no other people

Dogs can't be allowed everywhere, that's absurd. If your dog craps pick it up wherever you are.My dog's poo I pick it up simple.

  2. It is hard to know what's ahead,I was really on the bones of my a*se only a few short years ago but my old RidgyX never went without.I had some LARGE vet bills before I lost the old boy but very fortunate to have a wonderful vet that let me pay them off with whatever I could afford,he knew how much I loved him.I am a lot more prepared now with my two greys.I too have a doggy emergency fund in a term deposit and a credit card that I don't use either(unless of course I just have to have that new collar or coat).I don't have kids so my furkids get the best I can give them.I hope I don't have to eat 2 minute noodles again.

  3. Also, in Europe dogs live inside with their families. When the family is at work, the dog is loose in the house or crated. When there are visitors over, the dogs are inside the house and have to interact properly with visitors. They don't just put them out in the backyard because they have people over, so once again they get more socialisation.

This brings a smile to my face... we often had funny looks when we just moved to Australia because ours are indoors. One time we had an old friend from my husband over for dinner with his wife and 2 kids and when we started eating the dogs were just lying quiet under the table. No begging no nothing. Then 1 of the sons (about 8) said "dont you think we should bring the dogs outside when we are eating"......uhhhhhhhh NO, this is the dogs house as well and this is what they are used to.

People are allowed to smoke inside here as well which often has the same effect

I like your house, from a dog loving smoker.

  4. it depends I know that assistance dogs & guide dogs can go most places but their owners have special cards that give them these rights..

it might be worth you going into your regular haunts (without dog at first) & asking if they allow dogs there!!

We had a couple stay at the motel I work at with a guide dog and they told me the only place a guide dog is not allowed is an operating theatre.

  5. I have people ask how much my dogs cost to feed. I reply 'not as much as shopping and lunching with the girls on the weekend, not as much as you spend on beer and cigarettes, and certainly not as much as you spend on your children'. I tell my Husband, 'it is better than me having spare time and a boyfriend'. People just do not get it, and I don't care that they don't!

Hmmmmmm I drink beer and smoke cigarettes and the occassional lunch with friends but my dogs never pay for my social habits. Please don't let this turn into the bone thread!

  6. I think the joy that your dog gives u is priceless.

Couldn't agree more.Someone asked me recently how much would I spend a week on my dogs and I told them I don't know.I just buy them what they need when they need it.

  7. I have a friend who owns one on the central coast, the lady's name you met wasnt Renae was it?? what was the name of the male dog she had? (if you can remember)

I didn't ask the lady's name or the dogs names I was too busy looking at the little ones. She was young and very nice. She told me she first saw them when she was travelling overseas and found a breeder in Sydney.I saw her where I live at Terrigal Beach if that helps.(when I say young I'm 47 so everyones young) :)

  8. Kiff would sound like a grumpy, old man- the kind that would yell at kids from the front lawn.

Yep got my own grumpy old man,one that would whack you with his walking stick.Maddie is so sweet and innocent I think she would sound like Judy Garland as Dorothy in the wizard of oz."Stan I don't think were in Kansas anymore".Stan:"Thank God for that I hate Kansas(grumble grumble)"

  9. No experience with dogs but I'm a paediatric nurse and give it to the kids at work with asthma etc. Just remember pretty much every single drug has possible side effects and especially when not used correctly. The drug company needs to tell you these for legal reasons but I doubt it's ever stopped anyone who needs it from using it. Anyway sorry, not very helpful but I have never seen a child have adverse effects from prednisolone (that's the name we use) :-) Good luck

No experience either with dogs but I use it for myself as I have severe osteo and rhumatoid arthritis in pretty much every joint in my body from my jaw to my toes.I have been on it a long time and yes it has some side effects but so far I've been lucky. It has given me a new life free from pain,so if it can do that for my dog I would use it.

  10. She's not changing the flavor for dogs just most ppl ask us if we have a milk choco not a dark. We give out extra napkins and spoons :p just not cups. And we don't have half scoops not enough ppl ask for one and I don't make the rules I just work there it's hard to find work ATM

I'm hearin ya!How many times would you love to say "Hey I just work here I don't own the place"We sell newspapers in the restaurant I serve breakfast in and the amount of abuse I cop because their not free is ridiculous.I would love to say well don't stay in a 4 star motel, drive over the hill and stay at the Crowne Plaza papers are free there for an extra $200 a night. ;)

  11. I think these competitions are kind of sad. All these dogs usually possess some sort of deformity from birth by the looks of it (and also quite old--let's not even get into how they should be respecting these old darlings!)--it's like putting someone with Down Syndrome, Elephantitus, or some other disfiguring condition into an "Ugliest Person Competition". I dunno, I find it odd that they claim to love their pets, but enter them into freakshows like this.

Am I the only one who thinks these kinds of competitions are a bit.. off?

    Yeah I'm with you Dju.

    Agee 100%

  12. Hi all Stan here,

I just don't go.Refuse point blank.I don't care if little miss perfect Maddie has done a wee.Good luck to her.You can stand there stamping your feet clutching your liver treat bribes and banging on with the same story every day,"Once upon a time you were in a cold dark pound".BLAH BLAH BLAH.Now go to work mum before your late, again.I've told you before I'll wee when I'm ready.

  13. When I was fostering greyhounds I was told about DOL from another DOL'er(you know who you are).I lurked for quite awhile until I became a member.I was a bit(actually a lot) hesitant to join as my greyhounds are the first purebred dogs I've ever owned and I don't really have any expertise to comment on much at all.All I know what to do is love my dogs give the best care I can provide.I love that I can get on here and talk non stop about my dogs and no one says to me "For f##@ks sake their just dogs!I love learning about breeds that I've heard of but no nothing about.I love Kirislin's whippet photos!I especially love it when greyhounds get saved from the pounds. They are not generally the first choice for rescue but now people know what divine dogs they are they are getting a save.

  14. My two love a spoon each of So Good vanilla.Man it's the yummiest ice-cream,but I know what your saying she didn't have to be abusive to you for just doing your job.I have worked in hospitality for 25 years and the general public can be a bitch.Having said that you can't really tell her what to feed her dog(unless it's company policy not to give chocolate ice-cream to dogs)after all they still serve fat kids at Macca's.Maybe get the boss to put up a sign"Dogs eat ice-cream at owners risk"LOL.Sorry you had a crappy customer,it does put a downer on your day :(

  15. I booked a flight to Perth in September thinking I had secured a housesitter which has fallen through. Now I'm looking for a boarding kennel that I am happy with and if I don't find one I'm not going. As my ticket is non refundable try telling that to a non dog person!OMG your going to waste all that money just because of your dogs?Damn straight sunshine!

  16. Alarm goes off 5am.Switch on bedside lamp to find I'm sideways in the bed because Stan is across the pillows and Maddie is sprawled out at the end.I have no pillow and minimal doona.Squeeze myself out and have a coffee.Maddie gets up with me Stan stays in bed.Feed them brekkie at 5.30am.Back door is always open so wee when you want.Stan straight back to bed Mads on the lounge.Home around 10.30am(I'm a breakfast chef at a motel)Stan's still in bed.Sit on the lounge with Maddie and tell her how much mums feet hurt.Down to the beach for an arvo walk,Mondays they get afternoon tea down at the picnic area,a peice of cake from an old couple who love them.4 o'clock Stan starts walking around the house with his bowl so dinner for them.6.30 7 I cook my dinner and veg on the lounge with Maddie.Where's Stan?Yep you guessed it gone to bed.Laziest greyhound in the world! :)
