  1. Pawpaw ointment is safe to use. ????

I use it religiously for myself as i get dry lips, so if dogs ever need it I just chuck some on. (Usually for dry paws or cuts/grazes or where a bindi or ant bite got them)

a quick fix-it for ant bites...rub a piece of cut onion onto the bite; the ouchie will disappear quick as a flash

Thank You,that`s new to me, he does get that occassionally, i`ll try that. :)

  2. :D Thanks for all replies. The vet sold us Mediderm, $29????? it doesn`t work. Epsom salts bath has been suggested and better still ocean salt water, if we can get to it. He does ease on a cool day. We`ve researched a lot, no moses plants or wandering dew around or others. Summer here is hard for him and Staffy`s get it easier. :)

  3. Staffys generally don't have a user control panel, pretty much do what they want.

Seriously though itchy skin can be food or contact allergens. Infections are common and often they can't be cured but rather managed.

    Huh?

  4. At the top right of the page you'll see your user name, clicking on that brings up a menu. Is that what you're after?

Yes that`s it, but i`m trying to see if i`m notified of replies to my posts. I haven`t had any notifications by email yet. :)
  5. Our Staffy has severe itching daily, i think it is called (Eczema?). Would someone give some advice where they have had success in solving the problem please? :)

Also could you tell me where the user control panel is please?

  6. is it on a special diet ? Any allergies?

    dried apple

    popcorn

    Low fat options.....

    ? those dried lung treats....

kangaroo jerky would be very low fat ...

or dry your own roo meat !

flavoured sunrice rice crackers - the caramel ones go down very well here :)

No allergies just a little excess weight. Thank you all. :thanks:

  7. Not sure where you would get it from...maybe try the health food shops. But why not just get the capsules & break them open.

It`s recommended to only put two drops in the food daily, so buying a lot of capsules would last a long time and go beyond the use by date at that rate.

Actually, i just found Evening Primrose Oil liquid on Ebay in a 125ml bottle for $19.95. Cheers :)

How much Evening Primrose in a dose daily? :)

Does anyone know where i could buy the liquid form in Australia please? :)

  10. I have heard lucas paw paw works wonders,

AlSo we had a seriously scratchy puppy, hair loss the whole deal, turned out to be fox mange, might be unlikely if you are in a city area, but I would take a trip to the vet cause it could be something completely unmentioned here, and he is obviously experiencing some Discomfort

Thanks, we have tried paw paw ointment before so will give it a go again. :)
  11. Err - don't try savlon again - it tends to irritate many dogs IME.

As it's not a one off it might be worth having a vet visit, but it depends on how serious the other instances have been and how much it really bothers him. If he's obviously uncomfortable or distressed then I'm sure he would've been to the vet already :)

Irritation under the front legs (you mean in the 'arm pit'?) is not uncommon in a lot of dogs - did it co-incide with the sudden grass growth recently? A lot of dogs react to different species of grass especially when they're growing fast and the conditions are moist and warm, and it seems to be that the skin in that fold is a favourite place - I guess because of the moistness and because of the slight friction that only encourages things to irritate and because when a dog lies down on the grass this area is exposed and is probably more tender than many other areas.

Do you notice he's worse at certain times of the year?

FIL's dog had these issues all the time (a foxy cross type) and in the end they believed us and just put on a barrier cream (either nappy cream or rawleighs) when the dog's bad-time-of-year came up.

(1)Yes arm pit but it`s ok there now.(2) We don`t have him on grass much as the front yard has no fence.(3) He`s only 10 months of age. We tried some aloe vera today to see if that reduces the itch. It`s very hot and humid here. Also, i got rid of some Rhoeo (moses plant) :)
  12. The collar MIGHT have caused a slight irritation - those ones with studs sometimes do because of the metal coming through the back onto the dog's neck - but obviously it's gone past that now.

    What have you tried?

I would be inclined to use something that would sooth the irritation and itch and stop him actually doing more harm, then move on to something more healing.

A cream for children with stings and insect bites could be the go (check the label about applying to broken skin though!).

Has he had this sort of problem anywhere else or is this the first?

(1)We tried Savlon. Would Aloe Vera ease the itch? (2) He`s had this under his front legs and in one ear, cut the ear. :)
  13. What collar does he wear?

We had a leather collar (possibly felt type stuff on the inside) for a while when walking (see attached) but changed to a harness that doesn`t go around his neck because being a fast walker it was tight around his neck and choking him. He doesn`t have a collar or harness on when at home. :)
