  1. Don't keep them totally apart ..or your pup will not learn ANY manners . ..and he may be even more keen tyo run after teh cat :( Supervise, and use your voice..or just pick pup up and remove him from the chair/whatever. Maybe have a leash attached when he is with the cat..and just pull him off if he's being a pain. provide somewhere high/safe where the cat can get access...but not the dog. That way the cat can CHOOSE where to be :)

provide plenty of soft toys..interactive toys, bones, and little training sessions to keep pup occupied. outside, give him a digging pit , lots of balls to chase, etc.

    Thank You
  2. just be careful of him around the cat ..one day cat may get cross- and pup can easily lose an eye ! :(

exactly! that's why i had to get a baby gate and make sure they're always seperated cause i don't want no one-eyed puppy and a huge vet bill.

Yes good point about the cat. We`ll keep them apart. :D
  3. you're welcome! just make sure to set the nozzle to spray and not jet, it really startles them and makes them think twice about doing it again. hope it works :)

Hello, we have the water spray bottle at the ready so we`ll give it a go and see how he reacts. He`s a determined little so and so though. Terrorises the cat Bam Bam also. :D

  4. There are several things you can try. Some puppies take long to get it and can require more firm handling. You will just have to try and work out what works best for you and your puppy.

    - Telling the puppy to be gentle and praising when for not biting

    - Responding to the bite with a high pitch "ouch"

    - Telling the puppy "no biting" and stop play with them

    - Telling the puppy "no biting" with a firm but gentle grab around the scruff of the neck and stop play with them

I have had puppies where I did not have to even get to "no" where my current puppy now 7 months I had to (and have to for alot of things) be fairly firm.

    Good luck :-)

    Thank You.
  5. Our Staffy pup Arby (9.5 weeks) is also delightfull for this too (Oscar is very very cute!!)

We read a fair bit about this - and the importance of teaching 'bite inhabition' so in the future if he does bite through be startled / accidently hurt etc he won't bite hard.

When Arby bites we say "gentle" "gentle" until he is basically just licking. If he DOES bite HARD we yelp and turn away / leave the room and ignore him for 5 minutes (this usually only happens when we're playing and he gets a bit too in to it).

There's lots on here and other websites about Bite Inhabition, do try and have a read and see how you feel about it :)

    Thank You
  6. Hi .

oscar`is doing what he'd do to other pups/dogs.

the difference is usually that other pups/dogs would growl/nip if he got too rough .

In my opinion, any pup/dog teeth on human skin is a NO NO ...but people differ.

I am posting links to some D O L threads which may be useful for you :) as it's a matter of finding what suits you and your particular puppy.

  7. Staffords on the whole do not do well with a lot of grain, fillers, colours and preservatives in their diet. Take a look at what you are feeding.

It could also be a contact allergy but the best place to start with an itchy SBT is the diet.

I will check it out. :)

  8. Yup the QV wash, got told to use it by the derm. If they have a dry skin u can dilute qv oil in a spray bottle and spray them after bathing. Works well. My itchy dog cannot use oatmeal shampoo's makes him heaps worse

Thanks. How much would you dilute it? :)
  9. We are having the same issue with our 4 month old pup. I was going to give him a bath using an oatmeal shampoo. OH wants to take him to the vet and get their opinion

Yes we have been discussing that, but we haven`t seen him scratching since doing his underside with "Alpha Keri" wash before lunch, but i suppose there`s many to use. :)
  10. I use QV on my itchy dog...

i've never thought to use QV on the dog! We use Aloveen with Wilbur but i'll try QV next bath time. We use/buy the huge pump packs of QV as neither of my children can use soap.

    Is that QV wash? :)
  11. Thanks for mentioning the Aloveen BM because I forgot to put it in my post. I use it on Zeus and not only does it smell great, it is a fantastically gentle shampoo.

Thank You for all your replies. Someone mentioned Alpha Keri wash also, but i`ll check out Aloveen too. What do you think? :D

  12. It can be grass, or carpet, or detergent , or pollen, or lots of things :( Keep note of when he scratches .. then maybe you can remember what he was doing/where he was before it happened?

    Thank You, we`ll check. :)
  13. Our puppy Oscar has been itchy on his tummy recently. Could you suggest something that may ease it? He goes for quite a while without scratching and then does for a period. We removed "Rhoeo" plants (Moses)(photo attached) which i heard cause allergies on dogs.

  14. Classic photo..cat looks so non-plussed! I can hear puss say 'I'd rather you got this thing off me but wateva'

Yes, puss is not happy about it and gets out of the house as soon as he can. Did you notice the newspaper on the arm of the chair with headline "last man standing". Just a coincidence.
  15. I am yet to meet a stafford who doesn't have the zoomie gene. I never get tired of watching mine bounce off the furniture so happy doing something so simple. We could learn lots about having fun from our dogs!

Yes, they have a lovely nature. :D
  16. Oscar is our new pure bred Staffy 22 weeks of age. Each afternoon he suddenly runs and runs up and down the room from one end to the other for a few minutes, with a toy, jumping on lounge chairs at each end, until he puffs himself out.

Is this something odd or is it just hyper energy? We walk him every day. :D

  17. We just had lure coursing at Kuraby this morning and my little boy did his first full run (he has just turned 9 months). He had lots of fun and really enjoyed himself. :D

Silly boy carried on big time waiting for his turn ... and when his run was all over he wanted to have another go. :)

    Shame it was so hot...

Was there anyone else from DOL there?

Ohh I used to go there all the time until my girl past away, my boy doesn't enjoy it as much as she did.

Its a great day and the dogs love it! And lots of lovely people there.

As soon as the hear the motorbike start up every dog gets restless.

    I must go again soon.

Hello, i`m a new member, do you know when the next lure coursing is at Kuraby in Brisbane and the location please? :)

    It's all there.
