I looked up the Bayer site and it says Advantage kills 98-100% of fleas in 12hrs, so i would think that it "starts" killing the fleas in 20mins but it takes 12hrs to kill most or all of the fleas, whereas Frontline takes 24hrs to do this.

Sorry i thought i remember a rep telling me 6-8hrs.

I think Advantage would be better to use than Frontline if your dog is allergic, as with Frontline the fleas have to bite the dog to die but Advantage they just have to hop on to get a lethal dose (no biting means no allergic reaction). Advantage also kills fleas in about 6-8 hours while frontline takes up to 24hrs.

I actually had exactly the same problem as you with Frontline, so i changed to Advantage and have not seen a flea since.

They are both really good products but i guess you just have to find out what works best for your situation. I like Frontline if you are in a tick area, but if not i would go with the Advantage as it seems to work great against fleas (you can also bath the animal just as much as you can with Frontline).

What about colour dog shampoos, i have never used one but would they help with the bleaching. .

It is more expensive than the normal maintenance, but i have found is well worth it. (I have a toy breed so it doesnt cost me much at all ).

The low-residue is a complete food but it does say on the packet "This product is intended for intermittent feeding only or as directed by your veterinarian". I have been told this is for the dogs that are only going on it due to a short term problem such as vomiting, dirrhea, gas or constipation, as their problem is quickly fixed, but more serious problems such as your baby need to be on it always to manage the condition.

The Eukanuba website says this "LONG TERM FEEDING- Outstanding nutrition for long-term use under a veterinarian's supervision".

My dogs conditioned improved very quickly once on this food, and she has now been on it for 2years, i was feeding only low-residue but she is now getting about 80% low-residue and 20% other such as table scrapes, tinned sardines and bones. I have found that she does so much better on this food as i recently ran out and fed her my other dogs food (eukanuba maintenance), she started losing weight again and she had LOTS of mucous diarrhea and just seemed off colour, i bought another bag and she is now back to her healthy self.

Also i have heard of a doggy rescue shelter in the US that put all there under weight cases on this food to help fatten them up, as it is highly nutrious and digestible (i actually used it to put some weight on my other dog, who has no problem, just was a bit hard to feed up due to being a hyper little nut she just kept running it off). Though this food is not high in fat it is just really digestable.

There is an actual veterinary Eukanuba food for this problem, the food is called eukanuba low-residue. You can get it from any vet. I have a girl with intestional problems and is on this food and it works wonders (for my dog it is the miracle).

I have just picked a bit out of the brochure for this food that relates to your baby.

Blood and/or mucus in the stool

Recurrent bouts of soft stools every few weeks

This diet is formulated to be highly digestible, making it easier for your dogs intestines to absorb nutrients. It also contains special fibre sources to help rebuild a healthy intestinal lining and help balance the microbial population of the gut.

It is a really great food, and i would highly recomend it. :D

PS. Before i put her on this she was on the normal eukanuba which did not help or improve the problem, the Low-residue is the way to go. She now has put on weight and has completly normal stools, and is no longer sick.

I have decided to change to advantage due to a faster knock down rate then the frontline, i also know where they are coming from (have started to take them to the dog park occasionally). I find i have to be really carefull to kill the fleas quickly due to my cat only being on program.

I like to see the buggers die quickly. frontline just takes too long.

I actually have a cat that is super sensitive to frontline (and all top spots advantage, revolution). He loses all the hair where the liquid is put and the last time i used it his skin came up in a BIG chemical burn , it was sooooooo sore and raw the poor baby.

I really regret not taking photos of this and getting in contact with the company, but i will never use anything like that again on him so he gets program instead.

On the other hand i have used frontline top spot and spray on my two toy dogs for years and have never had a problem (although i have recently had an outbreak of fleas while on frontline so we will be moving onto advantage).

I have spoken to a vet from an emergency centre (was at the same xmas party) and was told they do not yet know what the toxin is that causes the dogs to become sick. Its a bit scary to think what other "healthy" foods could really be doing damage. :rolleyes: as i have always thought that mostly what is good for us is ok for them.

hi, would just like to know if anyone has also heard that grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs, as i have just found out that it can cause kidney failure and liver disease and at worst death!. My dogs have never liked grapes or raisins thankfully, but i know of a few dogs that love them.
