  1. I saw on Facebook a really nice home made large dog crate made from a wooden slatted cot. The legs were cut way down and part of one side hinged for a door (it sat flat against the crate front.) Finished with a polished timber "roof" ( from an old dining table).

It was beautifully sanded, stained and varnished. Very stunning, but if you have a dog that enjoys chewing wood not very practical!laugh.gif

Haha my sister in law pretty much did that with the kids' old cot too :) looks waaay too fancy to be for dogs but looks nice in the kids' bedroom :)

  2. Thanks guys, I did say I'm changing the strap so don't freak out!! The only thing that went wrong this morning was the hook came off Willow's collar a few times & ended up dragging on the ground until I realised. My job today is to look for a clip & maybe a ring to replace the hooks with. Looking at buying a "Zero Shock Extension" from Ezydog for the shock absorption.

  3. We have a bit of modifying to do, but this is what we came up with yesterday afternoon thumbsup1.gif

Tried it out this morning. The only problem I encountered with using an ocky strap was that it came off Willow a couple of times embarrass.gif Now to get some harnesses as I don't think the collar would be super comfortable (though it is a nice padded Ezydog one). She seemed to enjoy our run/ride today & I had peace of mind that she wasn't going to accidentally disturb a snake (we did almost disturb a pair of bobtails...).

So besides modifying the clips & getting harnesses, I reckon it's a great success biggrin.gif and Willow does too. Also please excuse her shocking appearance - SIL's dog came over the road so they were all playing & rolled in the mud & played some more.

  4. I looooove my springer and use it most days during the mild weather. I bought a new one this year after having the previous one for over 10 years (and it was second hand when I got it) Never been pulled off the bike and trained 4 dogs for the ET with us, as well as keeping the show dogs fit

Mine is attached under the seat but I do secure it with a screw through into the bike.

Oh that's so good to see in action!!! And well done on the 4 dogs getting their ET!! I'm actually hoping to title mine in ET (especially my 2yo bitch, she runs along with me for the 10km and I'm sure if I turned around to ride home she'd do that too. embarrass.gif ) but no idea how to go about it!

Ah and you've got your own lead set up. That's a good idea, is the lead a bungee type?

  5. I bought the Sprenger, but it didnt mention it fits on the post under your saddle, and as mine is at its lowest height there was no where to attach it to.

So i got a Walkydog with the low rider attachment, and it was great.

Ah good point, How high up does your bike seat need to be? I have my seat up about a hands' width... Will look up Walkydog :) Reviews look really good on that too!!! Do you think it would work with two dogs? I have three & usually take them all but my older bitch stays right near me anyway & prefers to conserve her energy not run off in every direction.

  6. Hi all,

So my favourite way to exercise is to take the dogs on a bike ride. With the weather warming up & snakes getting around more active I find myself less able to relax when the dogs are running alongside me closer to the bush or when they dash off quickly after a scent. I tried having the main instigator on a lead that I held but when he got tired I ended up pulling him up the hill AND trying to steer straight. Not as easy as it sounds laugh.gif

I'm looking at this which seems really good & lightweight. Has anyone had any experiences with it? Or good experiences with another system?

It's the "Springer Dog Bike Jogger". Just found it on Ebay.

  7. They're very handy. Out of various containers we've got kennels (my kennel took a bit more work because I didn't want to use the tacky looking plastic bit haha but there is one with the plastic bit kicking around somewhere), hay pods made from the metal base, I made one pool yesterday for the dogs because I wanted to keep the tap at the bottom :D (pro-tip: use a jigsaw, not an angle grinder - the angle grinder melts the plastic my husband said).

Have also seen them used as a hydroponic garden.

  8. And Willem please work on not assuming you know more than everyone on this forum. There are a lot of very experienced breeders, rescuers & vets on here, it would do you good to open yourself to learning instead of just forcing your opinion down people's throats.

  9. Personally every time my bitches come into season I am tempted to desex my male dog (but alas I show him) because he loses the plot. I keep them as separated as humanly possible, exercised separately, male dog goes to work with husband (on the farm) for the day & he's in his crate in the house while I exercise the bitches outside.

He's a whiny hormonal mess. How is that better than not being a slave to hormones?

Note - he's still well behaved and will do what he's told, but he gets a really crazy look in his eye & can't sit still/relax embarrass.gif

if he is one of the unlucky ones that get an early cancer due to de-sexing or joint and ligament problems he won't be relaxed either.

Please refer to the part of my post that says I will actually desex him? I'm tempted but I'm not actually going to. It crosses my mind the two times a year the bitches send him looney. laugh.gif

I've heard of more entire dogs & stallions with joint & ligament problems in their back from being a breeding animal. thumbsup1.gif I've also heard of more issues with testicular and/or prostate cancer occurring in entire dogs & stallions as they get older.

  11. I'll pick my bitch because she's secretly my favourite embarrass.gif

We're both uncertain around new people but around familiar people we are pretty crazy (everybody who meets her says how shy she is but she's really a total ratbag).

    *ahem* Very good doers/easy keepers/economical icon_smile_mad.gif

We like to stay at home. Or in familiar places.

A little bit territorial (I like my things just so, she doesn't like other dogs touching her bones).

We love chooks smile.gif (she's my chook guarder - has no interest in chasing them and is good for keeping the foxes away!)

  12. Our immense love of food and rolling around on the bed.

On a more serious note, we are both quite shy, we both dislike sudden loud noises, and we both have confidence and abandonment issues. :o But despite our fears I think we both always tries our hardest for each other. I like to think so. I feel like I can read and understand her very well, and vice versa.

Where we differ the most is her love for rolling in poo. I can't say I like to roll in poo in any way, not even in the slightest.

...But have you even tried??? rofl1.gifrofl1.gif

  13. Ohhh here we go.

The dogs I would like to own if I can get my husband interested in showing with me laugh.gif (so semi-realistic)

    Australian Cattle Dogs

    Welsh Corgi Cardigan

Dogs I would be interested in showing (so not necessarily own but would like in my household for a time for the experience)

    Dalmation

    Griffon Bruxellois

Australian Silky Terrier (probably not going to happen being on the farm though!!)

  14. Yep not a lot of sympathy for him, if my dog had gotten out a few times I'd have already chucked a wobbly & chucked up a proper dog run with concrete & save my garden & street appeal!! Can get a decent run for under $1000 & find free concrete pavers on Gumtree.

  15. Moorholme Park Kennels. Excellent value. It's usually booked by the other person in my experiences so I haven't actually done the booking process but from what I've heard they're very good at fitting dogs in :)

  16. Having Aussies has almost made me miss having a Border Collie laugh.gif at least everyone knew what a chocolate BC was because of "Toby the Wonder Dog" off Harry's Practice.

I got asked if my Blue Merle Aussie was a tri colour Border Collie rofl1.gif wrong on all points rofl1.gif and then I was asked if he was a rescue because of his docked tail ... no he's a NBT.

  17. We're lucky enough to live on a farm & can kill our own sheep for the dogs.

I also 'supplement' (as in, when life gets in the way and I haven't got around to filling the freezer) with Blackhawk dry food.

To aim for the 80/10/10 rule (80% Meat, 10% Bone, 5% Offal/5% Liver) I nick liver/lungs/kidneys/tripe from them & chuck the spine/ribs to the dogs :)

I also buy a suspicious amount of sardines from the shops for the dogs & feed them surplus eggs :)

  18. Just from looking at the website of them all, I wouldn't choose Little Eden as they don't appear to show their dogs & have a lot of different colours - those things alone wouldn't bother me but both together concern me. Along with not having a bitch hip-scored (unless they're waiting to wean the litter before they do them?).

I love the look of Nahrof dogs plus they have all their dogs' health testing on their website.

That said, it's your choice & I know none of them from a bar of soap.
