Anyone got a good write up on how and why to crate train a pup? SIL has agreed to do this with their new pup This is their first dog and i am trying to get a heap of info together for her! Also - Does anyone have info on why a pup should stay with its litter mates till 8 weeks? She was asking me why, i told her what i know, but would like to send her something that she can read. Thanks!!

bring your dog to me, i can get her skinny i have a thing against fat dogs..

Ok, first of all, get her OFF puppy food. my 25kg, 5 year old Bull Terrier eats: 1 cup of dry food a day, and a little mince mixed in it - sometimes he gets some bones with it or in stead of it or some eggs and vegies. lately i have been adding hot water to it because it is sooo bloody cold in the mornings here My 16kg, 3 year old Staffy gets 2 cups of food and the rest the same as above. Both dogs are fed Nutrience Holistic. when i am training them they dont get breakie, they get fed from my treat pouch, they are not begging dogs, and i can easily miss a meal without a word from them. They know begging gets them nothing and can handle a missed feed, dont snatch food from my hand if offered. Change the food to adult food, and get the dog to the vet for a check up to make sure there is nothing going on other than being over fed I would also not make the dog start to jog, get some weight off her, and start off walking and build it up

Kaos has a tattoo, Atlas didnt get one Kaos also has a scar, you can see if the temp is right!
-
I didnt even think of that! I have a muzzle here for her as well, Kaos slept next to her last night ,and they spent a good hour talking to each other!
-
Sorry about the barking! That was Atlas, wanted to play with his girl, not let Kaos have all the fun Something else that i thought of, she has never met another dog in HER house, could she have more confidence because this is her place?
-
Thanks guys - KAos comes to work with me now and then, i might start to do this more often (one in the crate, one out) and see how it goes, maybe one day I can try her... Atlas is so boring, and she needs someone who can keep up with her, one of these pups would be a good match! I think if i was looking at it, being someone elses dog, i would read it much differently than what i do, i know what she is like and yeah, just dont trust her... (she does play with another dog, but even then it is only on lead, just incase..)

Even with the leaning up over the cage? God i wish i could trust her She would have soooo much fun if she liked other dogs

Hi all, I am puppy sitting for the night, a 4 month old Bull Terrier bitch. She has been crated, and Kaos has been very interested in her. Kaos normally goes off at all but 2 dogs (one is Atlas). I have never seen her this close to a dog and not growl or try to fight it. I let kaos in, just to see (Pup is a VERY confident pup, i wouldnt have tired it if she wasnt!) I took a video, and was wondering if there is anyone out there who wants to tell me what they think her body language is saying? At first she seems to want to play, than a bit later she is leaning up against the cage and looking down on the dog. I used to think she was fear aggressive with other dogs, but now i dont think so....

Have you tried the Holistic? Just wondering, a while ago i was trying to work out what was the best one - They do good on holistic, so will prob just keep them on that. Do you mean the Nutrience Holistic or Eagle Pack Holistic (I think that's what it's called)? We haven't tried either of those, when he was a pup (and his allergies were a lot worse back then) we went through quite a few brands of food trying to get the balance right. We've stuck with the Derma as it is the only food we've tried that stops him breaking out at all (excluding big weepy rashes from rolling in fresh grass in the spring time). The only problem is, it has to be mixed in really well with his mince & veggies as it seems to be really unpalatable to him. Have you tried yours on both Nutrience Derma & Holistic? Does Holistic seem to be more palatable? Nutrience, sorry! My guys are on it, but after reading your post, i am going to order a bag of Derma next. We feed original and supreme to the boarders, and holistic to all the bull terriers that the boss's own - they have one bitch who has bad skin problems, after reading your post, we are going to get a bag of derma for her and see how she goes (we just did a big order, so wont be for a while!)

Can anyone recommend a good book or dvd for a first time dog owner? I have had dogs all my life, so have never had to worry about it! But SIL is getting a new dog and have not owned one before Also what things to puppies need? My nieces birthday soon, and i am going to get her stuff she needs - Will get her a few bags of dog food (just what every 6 year old wants ) and some toys, and i am trying to work out a good kennel! Thanks!
-
IF your dog has spent a lot of times at the vets, she could have just as easily gotten it from there.

It is possible to have the pup crated, and run at lunch and what not, but there is no real set lunch time, sometimes it wasnt till 2 or so, depending on how much we had to do - there is a huge area to run the dog out the back - but it is still in the kennels, and they may not want a pup (unvaccinated) running around there. Best to call and ask. Drop the pup in here if you want? I can look after it for a week? -

As the others said, just beacuse one gets Canine cough, does not mean the other will. Kaos got it last year, and At never got it, but they both did get it this year I let At ride it out (he ended on Anti Bios anyway for hurting his foot) and kaos i got on ABs because she lost 3kgs in 3 days Last year i let kaos ride it out, used benadryl and all was good. And remember, it isnt just kenneled dogs that get it Canine cough spreads very easy and you could pick it up anywhere, if they did go to a kennel please call them and inform them your dog got Canine cough, the kennel cant fight it if they dont know!

Tillys half nail broke off today, looks bloody sore but she seems ok... but then i look at the 6 ferals sucking the life out of her (9 day old puppies who are PIGS) and i think i would rather have my nail ripped out, then them on my boobies
