Hi PW - I have been using a dremel on Atlas for 2 years. I have yet to hurt him and make him bleed. He wont let me cut his nails (no do i have the confidence to do so!) so getting them done while he is under is the best thing to do Thanks
-
Nope, i have a bucket lined up for him! No eating this time!
-
Thanks Kiwi :D He still sore, he did try to play with kaos, the first time he has done so since he cut it
-
Im more worried about my hip pocket then him Nah, wish it was sooner, just want to get it over and done with. He is pretty sore, so will be good to have it gone
-
Getting infected, still really sore, they come off on the 1st (wednesday)
-
yeah, sorry, thats what i ment, as short as i can - he has long quicks and it is hard to get them as short as you can. He has a problem with his feet being touched, this claw being hurt is not going to help him get over that now
-
ok, i THINK i am going to ring the vets on monday and have a chat - see if i can get them BOTH booked in and done - Atlas also needs his nails cut right back, see if i can get 2 dogs for cheap will see what they say and make my mind up, feeling a bit bad booking them in when there is nothing really wrong with them, but Ats nails are pretty bad and do need to be done, ARGH someone tell me i am doing the right thing?
-
It might pay to ask if there will be anyone monitoring the dogs overnight at your vets. Most vets I know have no one in attendence overnight and so I'd much rather a groggy dog at home with supervision than at the vets alone all night. yep, i know when Atlas was really sick they told me no onw would be there for the night, I took him home, they said if somethin goes wrong i wont know what to do, i told them if something goes wrong at least someone knows about it if he is with me
-
He still wont let me near it, if he is still grumbling tomorrow i will take him to work and see if my dear boss and her OH can muzzle him and check them out, he wont let me touch at all If still looking bad, i will book in, if not, necxt time they have to go under i will get them removed
-
This is the first, did have a close call a while back, his claws are bad as it is, so if it heals in any weird way, it is going to make it twice as hard to keep them short
-
Thanks, really dont know if i should do it or not, might give his toe another few days and see what it looks like, if no good will have a chat with the vets
-
Has anyone had this done on an older dog? what is involved and how long does it take to recover?
-
I am sure he will be fine, i have had a heap of pets desexed, all drove home in the back seat, the vets normally wont let a dog out until it is up and walking. Just one thing, about the crate for tomorrow, just be careful! i did this for kaos and she caused a lot of damage to herself! i was worried about having her outside the day after the operation, so crated her, she went nuts and tore some stitches out, got her fixed up and let her outside the next day, no problems, i also did obedience with her 2 days after that. Best of luck keeping him quite!

Kaos was done at about 5 months old. I didnt want to have a season, so got her done before she was due to come in

I just went back to SC yesterday, i had nurto, but at the moment i cant afford it, nor can i find it. Dogs stopped liking Nurto a while back, i have been mixing it with other things to gety them to eat it - they LOVE SC. I have not had a problem with it with kaos - she does very well, never had any extra poops with it either. I am looking for something else for Atlas, he has been known to get skin problems, that is why i went to Nurto, but he wont eat it, so i have to sus out what else is around. Any ideas of a cheaper food that is great for skin problems? He is also a dog that puts weight on very fast. And NO, i wont be raw feeding (just for those that want to sneak it in! ) Sorry to hijack - and in the puppy forum

Yes, you have a new puppy, who is not toilet trained, you should be watching him ALL the time! if you can not watch him, he should be in a safe place. I never had one accident with Atlas, he was ALWAYS being watched when out of his crate, and when in he was out every few hours to pee. The second the dog starts sniffing the ground, spinning around Take him outside!

The Vet Said I Have To Lose Some Weight....... Help
Teebs replied to daccydog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We can diet together I have cut my boys food in half - but added vegies to make him feel full I feed one dog inside and the other out, so i know he isnt eating her food! -
I used to stop water at 6pm, but now they are good, Atlas wont go at night and Kaos will wake me up if need out - so they have access to water all day now
-
Tell the kids to suck it up - why would you want to play and not have the dog join in? whats the fun in that??
-
to Ollie and to his mum!!

Ok, first of all, there is no such thing as an unsuccessful toliet break, you stay out there till the dog goes, i once stood out in the cold for an hour for Atlas to pee when he was a puppy. Do not pay attention to the dog at all, put him out, stand up, fold your arms up and ignore the pup, when it pees, praise and back into bed. Water, how much is the dog drinking? Might be an idea to remove it a few hours before bed time. I am one of those crazy dog owners, when i got both my dogs i did 2 hour toilet breaks. I would take them out before bed time, crate them, set the alarm for 2 hours, when it went off, i would take pup outside and wait till they went to the look, inside and into crate (NO PLAYING!) i did that for a week, then changed it to 3 hours. When they were holding on for 4 hours instead of getting up when the alarm went, i would lay awake and wait to hear puppy moving, the second the pup was awake, it was outside, until one day, they slept through the night! when they cried I would also take them outside, they finally learnt that crying means toilet break, i would take them out and stand with them till they peed, they learnt that it got them nothing, and they were put back in the crate the second we came in side. IF they had just been to the loo, and they were crying, i would ignore them, i know, it can be annoying, but touching or talking to your dog gives them what they want - They are very good at training us Your dog crate may be too hot, there is no way mine would sleep with 2 heat things in with them. Best of luck, and DON'T give up!

Our girl Neko is broken too. The only things that she is interested in playing with is stones... Good idea re the paint rollers - I would never have thought of that. Its ok, Warley has a broken Staffy to (i think it is her? ) Footy - keep the one that you dont want ruined away from the dogs, let the dogs have theirs to chew I have used a coconut, kaos loved it ;) Anything stuffed dies here, no idea why the like killing it, they just do lol
-
My girl wont play with her Staffy ball, At bashes it around once in a while, but it really wasnt worth the money i paid for it!

Nail Care: What Do You Use? How Often?
Teebs replied to laffi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Dremel... by saying that i mean the $13 version i got from bunnings ages ago I do it myself, only on Atlas, Kaos hates it and her nails wear down anyway! I voted once a week, but i usually do abit a few times a week, the dremel thingy is next to puter, i will grab him and do a nail every now and then, he doesnt like his feet being touched for a long time, so i find doing one or 2 every second night keeps them ok he has very long quicks (sp?) and they drive me mad! but i try to keep them as sort as i can without hurting him!
