you can use diatomaceous earth (human grade) looks like chalk but the microfossils are sharp edges which pierce the fleas kill them. You can also scatter is over the yard/carpets as a house and yard treatment.

I think the most important is to treat the environment, so the next generation of fleas won;t appear.

I used the DE and a couple of flea baths a couple of weeks apart, last year and it got rid of the problem.

Oh, you can also use the DE on the dogs but i find it can dry the skin

you also mentioned short coat, Fauves are a harsh coated breed that require stripping, something you could learn to do yourself or you would need visits to the groomer

needs more muscle meat added, as others said that is a lot of offal. Beef, lamb, chicken minces or chunks, tripe (if you can get it). Some like to do a bone meal (carcass, wings, necks etc) and then a muscle meal with the extras - bit of offal, cottage cheese, oils, yoghurt, veg and fruit, eggs etc etc not all extras being added into each meal!

you mentioned small dog - while they are low on leg, they are not small dogs and can be quite strong on the lead and the ones I know are typical in wanting to follow scents and getting their attention at obedience and ring craft classes can be quite a challenge.

The UK has different requirements depending on whether the country is part of the pet passport scheme or a listed country, otherwise there is a longer process involved before dogs can travel to the UK.

I have a bitch with trapped fat about the size of the end of my finger. She had 2 litters and none of her pups had any hernias. This bitches mother also had a tiny one and the one I bred on from is the only one who had a hernia from her 3 litters. The older bitch is now spayed and her hernia seems to have disappeard (it wasn;t sorted when spayed as that incision was lower!)

It just cost a tad over £200 to send an affen from UK over to Iceland and that was in a huge crate as the jobsworth working at the airport refused the first 2 crates and I ended up having to use a crate from an agent at the airport that had just flown in from some other country and use the bedding that was already in that crate!! (so much for hygience control there!!) and they insisted the dog had a deep water bowl with a funnel and tube going into the bowl so water could be given to the dog during the journey. (apparenetly no one at a UK airport has a jug or can fold a paper cup into a spout to pour water into a bowl!!)

If you intend to take the crate home with you - remember they screw the 2 halves of the plastic crate together, so you will have to keep something on you to unfasten this or make sure your pick up vehicle is large enough to carry to whole crate.

I find the way some of the aus groups have been put together, very strange! Most of your non sporting is part of our utility group but then you have working breeds in there too! :laugh:

The 3 poodle sizes are also in our utility group - a group put together of breeds that no longer function in their original capacity or breeds which have worked in a variety of roles - eg poodles as circus dogs - very different to being a gundog. While the gundog group still have members of these breeds out in the field (maybe working line version of the breed, but they are still out there doing their job)

i have several of both sexes here and it is the girls who all come and sit on and around me on the sofa. The boys on the whole are happy with their own places. I have one young male who has really bonded himself to me to the point of getting separation anxiety when i go out or just shut the door on him.

I have one girl sat on the chair with me now, she is a special one and knows it but doesn;t make a fuss about me going out. I think the girls are more balanced in how they bond, boys seem to be all or don;t really care.

it can be a sign of irritation - fleas, mites - harvest mite for eg can be hard to spot, so maybe worth treating for mites and see if that helps.

my minis get a whole carcass as a meal - or a couple of backs if the carcasses are a bit mean! don;t bother to take any fat off and never had a problem, even with a breed that can be prone to pancratitis

if you want to feed half, you can twist and pull a carcass into halves, no need for cutting or just take half away after so long.

show potential is just a promising puppy, it makes no claims on how the adult will turn out re quality for showing. Breeders tend to run on pups and will place older ones as the potential didn;t live up to the early promise.

I sold a pup last year as show potential to a person who has the breed but never shown before, that pup was a crufts this year, which is a great achievement considering it isn;t a popular colour with some judges.

Have you been to any shows and met people in the breed? It is a good way to see if showing will be for you.

patterdales are not a recognised breed in the UK, so there is more variety in type then we would perhaps see in a recognised breed

Sorry, I couldn;t be bothered going around the stands this year, esp as i didn;t need to get anything!

I am planning a trip to uk next year, would love to time it to be able to go to Crufts....anyone know of a travel co. who do that sort of thing or a web site for crufts or uk kennel club so as I can book tickets ? Anyone else going next year?

Crufts is the same w/e every year (except for the year it got cancelled until the foot and mouth was over!)

you can buy crufts tickets from about december of this year, although you only need best in show ring tickets for the final night, other nights it is free to watch - just need to pay entry to the show.

I really enjoyed watching the juniors in action, especially as Brynja had handled my Levi the day before and she handled my naughty giant puppy the following day. Must admit to screaming out YES when she was the first to be pulled out into the final 10!
