Busy few days for me but so far

Int/Isl/Swed CH Wellingley Whats The Game at Beanara JW ShCM returned to the UK today and won his class

Beanara Jo March was 3rd in her two classes.

Back again on sunday with my giant import puppy who is very naughty!

my favourite steward is one who always goes down the line up checking numbers and offering polos to each exhibitor :laugh:

These days i enjoy stewarding much more then exhibiting, even chasing up the odd exhibitor who is sat chatting to friends ringside.

being organised

calling out classes and winners in a clear voice

getting the paperwork done and making sure the judge is doing their bits

having the rosettes and prize cards ready to hand out as calling out winners humbers (perhaps that is more a uk thing as i don;t think you hand out rosettes to class winners?)

Calling in next class and getting them set up while judge is doing write ups for previous class

andd the hardest part, lunching with the judges! :laugh:

if it is just a bit on the canines, you can often scratch it off with a finger nail.

you can also buy a safety scaler where the hook part bends back so you don't stab the gum.

it shouldn't bleed,maybe the odd drop if you are getting off a bigger chunk of calculus, but not enough to worry about.

if the teeth have got bad or the gum is starting to receed, get the vet to do a dental first and then keep on top of it.

Always had a soft spot for the irish, such mild mannered dogs that i have met.

borzoi are glamourous but one did nearly dislocate my shoulder while out walking him and he decided to leap into the air! They are to flighty for me, i like dogs who do as they are told - hence having the more working temp type dogs

All the underwear comments reminded me - I need a belt! Having lost a couple of stones recently, I need to watch how well my trousers stay up while running around the ring! Won;t the the first time i have had to run around with lead in one hand and trousers being held up by the other!

I am not familiar with the specialist options in Victoria, but are there clinical signs that mean that conservative management is not an option at all? (Like urinary retention, absence of deep pain response etc etc)

even with that, with people, they will still give you the option of seeing how it goes for a few weeks before doing an op.

I have been doing mine 2 yearly except the 17 year old. I think if you want them to visit nursing home residents (my mum) you have to have them done annually - like kennels

I don't understand that, do many old people get parvo? :D

My 14 year old hasn't been done since she was about 7, my younger dogs got done 2 years ago, only because they had to go to kennels, otherwise they wouldn't have got done then.

i think when you already have health problems, esp those that can be a reaction to over vaccination, then I wouldn't consider doing them again.

I wouldn't want to use dog B but would think about dog A (as in proceed with caution) if the mate is considered to be from clear lines.

trouble is, you can go to a 'safe' line and have it pop up for the first time anyway, such if life!

I was just reading thier site further, and it seems they hope to get producers of other products such as collars and halti's on board to make 'yellow' products that point out the DINOS. I can only surmise here, but I would assume that red would not of been the colour of choice as it would indicate an aggresive dog (like the collars that are red and white), and I think the message is that they are not aggresive dogs or to be feared, but just dog's that need some space.

If they can get the marketing behind to a large enough level, I think it could work.

While i think red would have been a good choice as it is a natural warning colour - there are lots of dogs that have red leads, so it may not stand out as easily a yellow

This company posted on my rescue page last week. I think this is a great idea :) They also have collars, etc, for deaf and blind dogs which I'm hoping to get shortly.

Lots of people tie pooh bags to their leash, so oftentimes people are used to seeing something tied on the leash. If they don't notice the yellow ribbon or don't know what it means it's not much use really, the owner will still have to explain.

I like the Canny Canine idea, the collar, harness and lead all say exactly what you want people to know :)

Yes, we tried that way with the mini and she just didn't like that method (and this is a dog used to clicker training for other things but with this she just closed down on me and didn;t try anything, she has always been a dog with 0 interest in toys and this seemed to fall into that category for her) but it has been working fine with the young giant.

i got her when she was several months old and the breeder had taken her out to lots of places but also had allowed her to pull on the end of a long lead and get to play with whatever dogs she wanted to. So we are working on retraining for the lead walking, now she is much bigger and stronger.

She is a dog that is easy to get excited, so I generally try to work in a calm way around her.

On walks when she sees another dog she really wants to go over and see if it will be a new playmate (as my old giant is to old to play with her and the minis are to small for a proper game).

Huski, think you read through to quickly, both OP and I are talking about when we are out with the dogs (I just said mine can focus as she does this at 'school' just not when outside for walks on lead)

I wouldn't say she isn't comfortable in her surroundings - had her at a show on sunday and while benched, she was relaxed, people coud walk past, as could other dogs - no problem. However, once she was able to move around then she was getting more into what else was going on. we have worked on some self control so she can be sat shaking with excitment (eg before I release her for off lead runs) and she won't move until told - whereas when i got her she would jump out the car so fast the hand holding the lead would get punched into the car door, so we have made progress.

She has also hit adolescence, which is the age this breed tend to end up in rescue as they push boundaries a lot more (and as I haven;t had her since a pup, we haven't got the foundation rules there that I would like to have).

Anyway, was thinking about LAT but as it is something i haven't done before was trying to find a good link or 2 to read about it first.
