  1. Hey Kirty,

I did a fair bit of researching when I first got Sarah, these would be your best options that I know of.

Aranga Reserve Dog Activity Centre in Donvale - proper fenced in dog park

Knox Obedience Club in Knox on Ferntree Gully Rd - they have a proper fenced in dog park

Kalinda Urban Forest in Ringwood - Mostly contained by property fences and a primary school on one side, no direct street access

  2. Bosco in the hammock, sort of   Thanks for the laugh :D

This is an oldie but it still makes me go "what the?" Not so much because of the shredded Ikea catalogue but where the hell did she find a paint roller? We still have no idea.

Lol, she chewed through all the inspiration from the ikea catalogue and decided to redecorate

  3. You did say puppy cuddles, Leah...

We just have 20000 things we SHOULD be doing and aren't. Problem.is I don't WANT to do them. Haha.

you mean this little land shark

I tried playing a bit of 'it's yer choice' with him on Sunday...he won... and my hands have the bite marks to prove it :p

  4. Hey Terri, While I'd love to meet Didi I agree that if it's going to be too stressful then we would understand if you decided not to come. It doesn't sound like you would have a very good time if you are constantly worrying about Didi and everyone else :(

Plus it doesn't sound like Steph needs too much convincing :p

    Leah's inlaws - Harry

    List of Food

Leah's inlaws - Snacks.. chips etc

  6. When I was a child I remember hearing things like once a dog gets the taste of blood it's never the same, and images were conjured of a rabid dog that would then want to attack humans.

Obviously I know better now but in this situation I imagine education is the key, it doesn't sound like these owners would have received much of that if they allowed a sight hound puppy the chance to harm a small prey animal.

Sarah managed to catch a young possum awhile ago, I was pretty shocked as I thought all prey drive had been driven out of her ages ago but I would never have considered euth. Also the possum was fine although I bundled it off the vet just in case :)

  7. Each dog has their own circumstances. If you are talking about beautiful Savana she very clearly looks like a pit bull, the red nose is a big give away. I'm not sure why she needs to be assessed by a qualified breed assessor, maybe someone else can answer that question.

As for the other dogs, the only other one what would be iffy would be Tank and he was surrendered by his owner so they would have a more detailed history than that of a stray

  8. being able to refine searches further will be a great idea, I must have just missed out on the survey as I didn't get an email :(

and dogmad I totally agree about the weight categories, small medium and large are such abstract definitions. To me there is a big difference between a cocker spaniel and a kelpie, but they are both classified as medium.

Not sure about the shedding, low shedding etc. For some unknown reason the general populace think low shedding means low maintenance when in fact the opposite is true

  9. More Harry puppy pics today! he came over on Sunday and him and Collie were playing non stop, Sarah on the other hand wasn't having a bar of it :p

Getting bigger, if his ears keep growing at this rate he'll be tripping over them in no time

This one takes some working out but it's pretty funny, take note of Collie's head, his paw on Harry's bum and Harry tramping on Collie's ear

  10. gorgeous teekay!

Hazy - maddie definitely knows how to cool off

39/52- Sarah attempting to blend into the bush, her faded ears were pretty much the exact colour although yesterday we redid the ears and tail so she stands out a bit more now :p

  11. Seeing as no-one has put this up yet I figured I'd get the ball rolling... :)

If you're keen to come along, please add your name, your dog/s' name, and what you'd like to bring, to the list! Or, feel free to ask any questions.

For those who haven't come along before, our DOL booking includes exclusive use of the Lagoon Pool (from 10am-1pm only), the main grassed run (with shade) and the newly built bbq pergola area in the run from 10am-3pm, and use of the other runs where available. A few of us also tend to hang around later than 2pm (Kepala are fine with that, there are always runs available).

We will plan to have a BBQ for lunch, will post a suggestions list of what to bring

For anyone who does want to come along, there a few things to know:

    1. We are going to have fun and let the dogs have fun (this is a big one!)

    2. If your dog is not so good with others, it is ok because there are other runs you can use

    3. We want ALL the dogs to have fun, so no humping, fighting etc allowed. And as above there are other runs we can use.

    4. The more the merrier

    5. Not restricted to DOL members

    6. $17.00 PER dog (Sorry, but there is no discount for bringing multiple dogs/puppies, its $17 a dog/puppy.)

    7. We usually each bring something.

  12. Thanks for the tips guys.

At this point I think I will be rewriting the adoption process as at the moment it's more about the rescue and ongoing support rather than the process for adopting a dog

and secondly, getting rid of the phone number and setting up a separate email account for adoption enquiries, potential matches can then be forwarded the adoption form to fill in or you can clarify anything that needs clarifying in your own time.

And Leema I know what you mean by passing one enquiry to another dog, my property manager husband does this for rental properties and does it well. Rather than just standing at the door passing out application forms he talks to the potential tenants to find out what they are looking for and will book them into see another property if he has another one that is more suitable.

  13. I don't want to turn this into a discussion about what makes a good potential adopter, at the end of the day the decision is not up to me and all rescues are well within their rights to make sure dogs go into homes where they are MOST likely to spend the rest of their days.

I'm just trying to make sure as little time as possible is wasted with people who haven't really taken into consideration the commitment of owning a dog and those that looked at the picture and nothing more.

I've been looking over other pet rescue accounts and along with LG's suggestions have come up with a few ways of trying to do this. Only time will tell how successful I am :)

  14. leah82 - those cockers are just gorgeous. I would love to own one, one day.

The little blond one is up for adoption :provoke:

She's an oldie at 12 years, a bit deaf and weak in the back legs but she doesn't let it slow her down and she's the perfect size for lap cuddles

  15. It's definitely a fine line to balance. Rescues are often run by people who already have full time jobs and when they are not working they need to manage the dogs currently in care (many of whom need vet work/rehabilitation) as well as urgent requests to surrender animals, adoption inquiries are unfortunately often lower on the priority list.

I'm happy to help in this particular instance but in helping I don't want to increase the work load of the people running the rescue
