  1. I've still got the one I bought for my Gordon Setter over 20 years ago. It was an expensive one, been used on all size dogs, no sign of fraying, breaking etc and the spring is as strong as when I bought it. Retracts as short as an ordinary lead. I've bought a couple of cheapies but after one use threw them away, reckon they would break easily so laid out for another good one. I (and my dogs) love them, gives them the freedom to wander from side to side on the bush tracks while I stroll down the middle lol. Buy a good quality one, learn how and where to use it, no problem! Let's not ban another useful tool.

  2. Not more laws, please. For the last 20 years whatever dogs I've had have always travelled with me. 300k round trip to Mildura for main shopping, 300k round trip to Swan Hill (Vet there). Leave them home alone - risk of snakes, fire and any other issues. I do not go anywhere if it's hot, shop at night time at 24hour supermarket. The dogs are quite happy in their crates while I'm shopping etc, been known to have a hot water bottle when it's very cold. They get excercise and a roast chicken (well, some of it) when we are ready to head home. No way I'd leave them home :mad

  3. That's Ok Aziah. I've had Mins for about 30 years and along with many others who have also been involved for ages have never seen/ heard of long coats. There's been a lot of 'googling' and research done and not a thing! Came up with crossbreeds, Mins/Dachies/Poms etc. so was interested in what you had found. An overseas litter was advertised as long coat but the photos of the dam and pups didn't have a long hair in sight! Reckon I'd be doing DNA for parentage if I ever produced a 'long coat' lol.

  4. In my 50+ years of having show dogs and bitches, never desexed any, ( tried to add them up but I'd have to find my old records,) fortunately I've never had pyo, testicular cancer or tumours, incontinence in either sex all living to a good old age. I have now one of each sex, both entire.

    :crossfingers: :crossfingers:

  5. I think until the ANKC/States can do some advertising, perhaps with a personality, we won't get any message over to the general public. The members can do some publicity but nothing gets to the public like TV. Look how the DD's took off when Don Burke started to champion them and knock the purebreeds! Realise this takes a lot of money but perhaps if the ANKC could get some sponsorship, maybe a food company, maybe a pharmacy company, etc. Years ago Pal used a number of pure breed members dogs to advertise their product. Another example of TV/films - the breed featured becomes flavour of the month. If it's on TV etc then people will take notice.

  6. At 7 years of age Mickey (Min Pin) decided that grabbing the back of my slippers when I walked was fun. The 'no', 'leave' didn't work nor did stopping, he'd just wait until I moved again. A couple of times of lifting my foot high on the back stride where he got the sole of the slipper on his nose soon stopped that. Never had a chewer but Mick might start that, he loves to be naughty lol.

  7. Oh dear, you people do fuss. Next door neighbour has the right way. Just make sure your bitch is secure in a dirt floor shed when time is near then check her every now and then. One of those times you will find some pups buried in a hole in the dirt floor that the bitch had dug. Don't let her spoil your social life just because she has 9 pups. When you have to go away for the weekend leave a bag of dry food open and a big bucket of water handy. Couple of weeks later there's 6 pups left, oh well the weak ones are better off gone. Another weekend away, silly neighbour hears a pup screaming, goes to investigate. Pup is stuck under some old timber on the floor. Stupid neighbour gets bitten by the bitch trying to free the pup. So pups are needing to be fed - Woopee there's a road kill roo just out of town, put way down the back the stink isn't so bad. Vaccinate the pups? Sheesh what a waste of money. Ok time to advertise - 6 health Dane/cross pups for sale $300 dogs, $350 bitches!

And the lot went!! So what are you all fussing about??

Boy, was I glad when they moved :champagne:

  8. During the day are they barking at something or just plain bored? Those type of dogs really need human company but if they aren't allowed inside well that's a problem. Perhaps for night time, is there a garage, shed, somewhere they could be locked in with a bed and some chew thing so they would settle? Not much help I'm afraid, mine are inside with me, reckon they would bark if they were locked out lol.

  9. I think the best is to do a lot of research into vaccinations as you'll probably get both for and against so it will be up to you in the end. Personally I never vac past the 12/15 month booster and never had a problem. I don't like pumping all those poisons, that includes worming, flea products, etc into my dogs. Worming, fleeing etc only gets done if/when necessary. Guess your location, dogs socializing, etc would also have to come into consideration. Also don't forget with kennel cough there are a number of different strains and all cant be vac'd for.

  10. Hi again, Jelly, Had to go out today and was trying to think of the right word for wire size, annoyed me all day lol.

Wire size is in 'gauge' (well I think that's it lol) Surely these a lot brighter than me on here and can give the right name :o

Anyway - thinking of you and Roo - it'll work out

  11. Jelly, Before you get another crate sight unseen perhaps give the shop a ring, ask what strength the wire is, think it's called tensile? I'm sure someone else on here will know what you ask for then again check on here and ask if that's a good strong one. I'm sure someone or their OH will be able to help. I've got one big one which looks much the same as the one in the pic and it's not that strong but ok for what I use.

  12. That's great Jelly. Keep up the good work.

Those bean bags can be fun - friend had her Irish Setter stud dog locked in her lounge room overnight and he demolished a big bean bag. Same as your incident, Pers, beans floating from hiding places for months and she tells me you cant vac up beans lol.
