  1. thanks each and every one of you for all what you have written , i have a app at 5pm tonight at the vets, to find out everything in detail, as i was away at the time, and i was crying too much on my mobile. michael my husband is taking very hard atm, we just never expected our jenna tobe like this, all so sudden.... its kind of surreal reading other posts on here with same thing or similar, but then it happens to you personally. it's not the first dog/pet ive lost, but it doesn't get any easier i do believe in alternative therapies, i too had a pancretic tumour and shouuldn't be alive today......thanks to a combination of things and a will to live, i did survive. with Jenna, im not so positive, she has her athritis playing up, no matter what we do for that, the worse part is, that she has lost her will and spirit, and that is the saddest thing to watch, its not always just the physical side of having a illness. i made a pact after my i lost my last beautiful dog, not to ever let another dog suffer, the way i did with my other dog, despite my own feelings of wanting to keep them with me till its too late, and watching them suffer immensly. that time is not just yet, but i think i will know when, they always let you know in their way.
  2. well, as some of you know, last thursday, we noticed a fairly big lump on jennas rear end. on friday morning we had a biosopsy done... on sat morn, on our way to spend 2 nights away....i got the call on m y mobile.... I can't tell you guys a lot of the what the vet said, as i was very traumatised at the time.... Jenna my old dog of nearly 14 years, has CANCER, a non operative type, a nasty one....she could go another few years yet, or she could go very soon...they can't tell me any answers, but to keep her as happy as we can, for the time being. We have just got back, we will be seeing the vet in person tomorrow, tues. to clarify what type of cancer she has ect.....they told me but i just cant remember anything, other than what i have written here. ive had a feeling couple months ago, something was up and was very wrong, she was trying to tell m e in her doggy way and was very clingy and i just knew something was seriouly wrong, then and there. shes not in lot of pain that we know of, but she is very sleepy and sad and depressed, and lifeless, no matter what we do with her....when we got joey she seemed to come to life for a bit, but now she's back to her normal quiet sleepy self. i have never known my jenna like this, i know her to be a typical heeler x, full of vitality and spirit... shes had bad athritis over last few years but its been treatable...i thought that was what would be the worse thing to live out her old life with... i never imagined she would have cancer.... she was originally from the animal welfare league and she had two days left before she was to be put down, she was less than 11 months old then! AND i didnt realise this at the exact time, i spotted her and feel in love with her, but i saved her, just in time!!!! anyway we have just gotten home, and are trying to come to grips with this sudden tragic news
  3. just quickly guys, as we bout to walk out the door now, for our gettaway ;) the vet doesnt like the look of it, its huge, she did a needle biospy, the good news is there was some small amount of fluid, so hopefully just a cyst.... but 2 vets looked at it and said it was big and very hard, and not good thats its come up so large and so quickly andnot good in her rear end ... they have sent the biosspy off, will let us know by monday hopefully..... they said its not grass seed, or fatty tissues couyld be A POSsiblity of a bad infection or tho shes not displaying other symptoms... so thats the latest i can tell you.... hope its a cyst likle she had a few years ago on her neck!!! they acting on it fairly fast, cause of her age and where it is. thanks for all yiour responsese and concerns!! ;) will let u know monday night when we get thenews and when we get back .. julie-annexxxxx
  4. hi Arky(jen) got a vet app at 9.45am she had one on her neck a few years ago, but smaller and not cancerous... will see what the vet got to say. we are bout to go away for the weekend for our 1st wedd annivesary, so want to get some idea of what it is before we leave..
  5. thankyou well she is very fat!!! ill prob get some too myself LOL HOPE THt ALL they are ;)
  6. oh i hope it nothing serious, i've never noticed it before on jenna, my old dog..but tonight we felt a big lumpy thing aROund her bum area...weird!! michael says he seen similar lumps on sheep, when they got a infection... hope its just that!! she doesnt appear to be sick, or off colour in any way and when you touch it, she doesn't mind at all.. hmmmmmmm ;) not sure how long its been there?? will have to check it out...
  7. hi Collie Angel i'm sooo dreading the same thing, with jenna!! shes' only 13 nearly 14, but is getting bad athritis, which i'm doing everything to make its better and more confortable for her atm... I don't warrant its time yet, shes hasn't shown me enough signs to justify...vet reakons shes in good health and is happy enough. i just feel bad when she takes ages to get up on her old legs, and get going and sleeps heaps more now our joey has brought her to life again tho i have made a pact to myself, if i see her in very bad pain and shes not happy ,i will not prolong her life or her suffering i made this mistake with 2 of my last dogs, they were suffering and were very old as well, and for my selfish reasons, that i couldn't let them go, i prolonged their life and made them suffer more than they had to!! I won't be doing that with my beautiful loving Jenna Sad subject to deal with, isn't is!!
  8. sorry, just seen ur post for the first time!! as u know ive just been through a tuff last few weeks myself with joey we suspected a lot of things, even the vet did in the begiining, and i did not want to reveal what i thort at the time out of respect for his breeder, as shes genuine, and we regard her highly the vet originally thort it was a patella problem too, but after lots of tests, xrays and tablets and injections, and second opionions and fair bit of money spent, it was most likely a strained tendon......hes perfect again at last!! i know u are feeling overwelmed with it all and i feel for you.....its not in joeys line either, patella or hip problems, but thats not to say a puppy or dog can't be the first to get it regardless, especially in smaller breeds wherre they are jumping on and off and running around like crazy.....not always nessesarily the breeders fault.... i do hope it doesnt get worse, ive heard the operations can be quite successful for treating patellas... what we go through sigh...., as dog owners, you think paying a lot for one, and getting a dog from a genuine breeder, you won't have any problems, but its not always the case can happen to any dog unfortunately...theres not guarantees in life.... probably like people with children, no matter what happens to them, you see them through it, at what whatever costs... thinking of you julie-annexx thanks for ur support when joey was lame. ps, just a tip, get her on those glucomate(sp?) tablets as well to help him through it, ive got joey and jenna both on it now ;)
  9. hello i am a vegetarian, by choice, have been si nce i was 16 years old!!... :p i've often wondered bout animals not needing to eat meat all the time, epecially cats and dogs........b ut i've always fed mine meat. my vege ratio is more than the meat itself, most times... I feel repulsed myself eating animals, but i do cook it at work and for my husband and pets ... i just accept that. luckily my rabbit and birds don't have to have it
  10. yes checked out lots of other possibilities as u mentioned, even calciumfication from a possible infection ...nothing visable apart from the possible hip area to be assessed by othepedic specialist soon.....from the xrays
  11. thank you the carthrophen has prevously worked very well in my dog before jenna, for cruisit ligament damage, and in my 13 year old heeler cross, so hoping it works wonders in my little Joey let me know how u get on with your natural treatment please... julie-annexx
  12. Hi, ive just come back from vets tonight with similar results as u!!! been on antiflamtories for a week..worse after his confinement period. Originally suspected of luxating patella...not now. Only there's some mild concern bout his hips, after doing xrays, yet to be comfirmed by a orthapedic specialist in town.....have to wait for their opinion.... Hes only 16 months!!!!! could also be a torn muscle..soft tissue damage thats not showing up on xrays... hes on 4 weeks of catrophen iinjections, then a reassesment aafter the whole course.... Ive also just got the glusomine(sp/?) tablets today, to start hiim on, like with my old arthretic jenna...... I'm with you here, know how you are feeling......ive only had this puppy for a couple of months!!
  13. i probably shouldn't say it is a patella problem till wer've had xrays, just in case its not that........might be getting worked up for nothing yet.
  14. thanks Mel im surprised i didn't get more responses to my post, luckily not too many people are going thru it or have gone thru it ..apparently its not uncommon among smaller dogs in particular, especailly when they still growing and running around and playing actively. xxx
  15. ok, will be seeing same vet in a weeks time, so will suggest a xray to cover all my bases
  16. was perhaps wondering if .....i should quickly get him onto that glumocuise(sp?) stuff people talking bout on here recently???just in case??? i'm bout to get old jenna some soon. the dog in question is only 15 months
  17. i was wondering if to do a post on this subject, as ive just done a post on my limping dog, a couple days ago bout this possibility? Ive had my dog at the vets last night, she fairly confident its this, but feels its at a very mild stage. Hes on antiflamtories atm and rest for 7 days. She Will reaasess it in a weeks time, if to take further action. Shes telling me, not to overeact, in my case, sometimes its just a one off occurance or can go on to further problems.......so im at step one just now.... i dont know much bout it, but have been reading up on it this arvo, its not alll bad news for everyone, so will have to see what develops... She will xray, if need to later....hes not in heaps of pain or discomfort atm, and has not limped last few hours They not talking surgury for him, just yet.
  18. the only negative thing bout dogs sleeping with you, apart from hair, which we loose too ............oh i think i should shut up, its sounding worse!!! is, if you let them get iinto a habit, like we have, when you have a partner as well, it can be not good at times of um...how shall i say it.....intimincy .......is that a health issue???
  19. This cracked me up because I started to write the exact same thing and thought .. oh my - someone might take this the wrong way !! hahaha Anyways .......... my dogs sleep on our bed (much to my other halves disgust) and they are 25kg+ IMO so long as they are clean and you're both happy what does hurt??? great minds think alike!!!
  20. i haven't had any problems personally with pack order, as a result of them sleeping on my bed over the years, with any of my dogs either but i guess there could be, for some dogs and some owners?? i did a post ages ago in general ,on who lets their dogs sleep with them, lots did by how many pages there were.....but i respect those who have reasons for not
  21. hi unless the dog has fleas or any other unhygenic condition, or visa versa, i can't see a problem personally..not that i'm a doctor LOL i have been sleeping with dogs all my life , that sounded funny as i wrote that .....I have had no dog related illnesses ..... i have allergies but not dog associated ones.
  22. HI guys :D sorry to get a bit distracted on ur subject Fifi in all my training and trialing, ive never done the clicking training thing. ive seen posts of you guys talking bout it, but not sure what it is and how its applied....? if you train with it, surely you can't apply it in a actual trial tho, can you??? ive never even see it done, ive been out of serious training for a couple of years now can someone direct me on more info from past threads pleaseee, before i start a new topic again. thanks...once again sorry Fifi
  23. i just wanted to add one more thing, while im thinking on the subject still. altho jenna was very responsive and easy to train, too easy!, i found it quite disapointing compared to wiinning with the first dog, Sabre .... I think for me, the outcome wasn't soo much the wiinning and high scores, as to the challenge of training and learning and acheiving results together...so i felt i achieved more with Sabre in a sense. i had to put soo much more effort into him and it just made me feel all the hard work was a successful challenge, just in itself...i got a higher feeling of satisfaction with the harder to train dog, than i did with Jenna, does that make sense??? :D I actually was more proud, and felt more worthy of Sabre's cd than i i was with Jenna's
  24. hi i have done obedience trialing with two dogs, one a german shepherdx blue heeler, and jenna, a red heeler x kelpie. The german shepherd cross, was very sluggish and tough to teach, but very consistant..and got his cd...but it was hard work with him. Jenna got her cd as well, she was very quick learner, consistant, eager to please, alert......altho too alert at times LOL both those dogs have working dogs in their makeup, so for them some of the tasks came natural :D As for joey my cav, i haven't done much yet, he does learn quickly and does l isten, but he does get distracted a lot, as you have seen in them. I have example of cavs that have been successful in obedience and agilty, so they have got the potential iin both areas!!!theycan and do make it So altho particular breeds might excel, cause its part of their trait, other breeds will have it in them to, to be winners and just as good PRobably hasn't asnswered your question LOL, but just a insight into what i've seen and experinced in my time JUST a funny example .. yesterday, i was doING a breif training session with joey, a sit and stay.... and jenna wanted to be in the act, so i let her participate....anyway ..joey did give up and wandered over to me...i got Distracted with joey and went to do something, and hubby who had been watching..said to me., hey you forgot bout jenna, she's still sitting and waiting for a command from you, to be able to leave her sit stay LOL my poor old loyal jenna!! Anyway i will let you know how i do with joey, not that i'm applying myself seriously just yet.
