  1. Do they really use chains and water bombs, sounds like something out of "Friday Night Games" on the TV or whatever it used to be called :rainbowbridge:

Think of the damage that could do to a dog mentally, and in my case, being a lousy shot, physically.

They did with a friend of mine's dog.

The couple only wanted basic training - he was a huge dog (crossbreed), gentle but huge and strong and they just wanted training so the wife could walk him without worrying.

After two sessions with Barkbusters - the dog was so terrified of check chains that they were only able to use a leather collar on him. All they had to do was pick the chain up and he would be shaking and back away into the corner of the yard.

They could never get him over it. Needless to say what they thought of Barkbusters!

  2. Chuck bones. Sometimes beef chops/ Osso Bucco / Chicken bones - that kind of thing. It seems to be the chuck that makes them sick.

Big marrow bones make Tex sick so he doesn't get them anymore - vet said it was probably because of the amount of fat in the marrow.

We don't eat lamb or veal (anything like that). Years ago when we did - I tried them with lamb bones they wouldn't eat it - they would turn their noses up it. Don't know why. They would sometimes eat the meat but never the bones. So I know there is no point even trying it again.

  3. What are some hints to keeping dogs teeth clean without eating bones?

My two are going to be 8 years old this year and have always eaten bones and have good teeth.

The last year they don't seem to be able to tolerate the bones anymore - haven't changed the bones (they get chuck bones) and I am pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with the bones - I get them from the same place, the dogs still love them but about an hour after eating them more often than not - they throw up everywhere! Never happened before - its totally new and I am alittle worried about it. Nothing wrong with the dogs - they just don't seem to be able to handle digesting bones anymore. So I am giving them to the dogs less and less.

I tried them on those Greenies - and they made them dogs smell something awful. No more of them.

They get rawhides and I have started brushing their teeth.

    Anything else?

  4. Hi Ci, I take my dogs to see Lyn Mawson, canine muscle therapist, and she is in Alphington.

Thanks Dyzney - I know Lynn been to her many a time - she is wonderful - but she seems to be more affective for Sammi. Sammi loves visiting her - she gets up on the table and lies down like she is in a day spa for a treatment with a "I'm ready" look on her face - its very cute.

Tex seems to needed deeper work that's why he goes to a chiro.

Ray's awesome but only works limited days at his practice now so may be hard to get into- worth a try tho!

I tend to use Dr Georgia Davis- Otimal Chiro based in Hawthorn but mobile as well.

Thanks Staff - I will look into her! :)

  5. Deb Hall is in lang lang but she will come to you

There is also another lady out your way that comes to you

    Her name is Danni

Could you PM me numbers at all?

Thanks for the other suggestions but Werribee and Cragieburn are too hard to get to. Atleast with Barry - all I have to do is travel on the South Eastern and its pretty much a straight line.

I have heard of Ray Ferguson at Monash too - has anyone used him at all?

  6. I am just wondering if anyone has a doggie chiro or physio that they use in Melbourne that can either come to the house or isn't too far out of Melbourne?

I have been using Barry Haywood for years but it is just too far for me to travel now that he is in Cranbourne - visits can take over 2 hours getting there and back and he is only open certain hours now. Makes it very hard with work.

    I am in South Yarra.

    Any suggestions?

  7. My female staffy has arthritis in one of her elbows. She has had since she was a pup too. Have no idea when it started though.

She had a few signs which to the discovery. Soreness, shaking when sitting and pressure on the leg etc.

She is on Cartrofen injections (as she needs them) and I give her Gluosmaine in her food. Chiro every few months and massage.

She is 7 now and she is doing great!

  8. I have never seen CM do an alpha roll on a dog.

The closest I have seen him do was one show with a Bulldog that was completely out of control and he did roll him onto his side but then he held him with his hand around the dog's neck there til the dog calmed down.

I don't know if that is was CM alpha rolls?

But I wouldn't suggest showing a group of average dog owners unless the trainer is very very good and can get the point across.

  9. I have absolutely no advice, but I am curious as to why a pup is on glucosamine. I thought that was only used on arthiritic older dogs.

Not so sure glucosamine is really necessary in very young healthy animals, but it is a nourishment for joints so not necessarily something that you wait until damage is done.

Young dogs (even pups) get arthistis too so maybe that's way the Glucosamine is being taken.

  10. Sorry I don't quite understand?? Did you check with your BC before buying the property and they allowed dogs when you brought the unit and have just recently changed the rules to not allow dogs?

Can BC do this? My BC can't and we as owners can fire and change BC is we want to.

Then surely this would be affecting more than just one lot of owners? Are there others there that have dogs?
