  1. Hold on a minute - this thread is about a second handler outside the ring, I was adding about inside the ring as it is in our Regulations and added to my argument. No one has said anything about winning or sheep stations so perhaps you shouldn't be jumping to conclusions about the posters. A runner outside the ring with a squeek toy or calling the dogs name of the dog in front of me would put at least one of my guys off, I doubt the rest would be phased but that is the training they have.
  2. I'd say the biggest reason why GSD specialties are held in separate areas to other breeds is because the rings are much bigger What do you mean by double handling disadvantages others? Not something I've ever thought about or experienced I'd say the biggest reason why GSD specialties are held in separate areas to other breeds is because the rings are much bigger :D What do you mean by double handling disadvantages others? Not something I've ever thought about or experienced The ring size isnt a big issue BUT when people are running on the outside with bike honkers, cow bells, whistles, screaming & yelling then .Doing weird manuvourse in the corners & people running the outside ring faster than the dog i would say that is a big annoyance to anyone near by plus the announcing all day on either mega phone or PA placings & why. As showdog has answered already, some methods of double handling are very loud, distracting and thus could be disadvantaging to another dog. Our Constitution says that the use of squeek toys is not allowed - I witnessed an exhibitior being told so by another exhibitor before going in for a BIG line up. The squeek toy was this dogs tool for gaining expression however is very distracting for the dog behind who doesn't like squeek toys, thus the disadvantage.
  3. That is your opinion It is a lot of fun watching a GSD specilaty without being involved I have noticed, more often than not, a GSD Specialty is held at a different location to the main show. Must be disrupting someone for them to do this. Double handling works both ways, you can get your dogs attention while disadvantaging others. How is that fair?? You can say that a dog should be trained to ignore things outside the ring but then I would say that you can therefore train the dog to give expression in the same way. To the OP - WHY should Double Handling be allowed?
  4. I'm so glad I asked now - so much great information being shared.
  5. I have admired the leads that a lady in Victoria has, it's kangaroo hide but at least one of the strands is silvery, and with purple and greens, they look particularly stunning.
  6. How did you get started in showing? We bought our first dog when I was about 7 - we all showed him at different stages, my mum, dad and I. What was your first dog/breed? Cairn Terrier called Duffy What is your favourite memory? I don't remember it well but I am forever greatful that other people, have and still do, entrust me with their dogs to show. Right from the start I was given the opportunity to help handle Chihuahua's and a Fox Terrier (Smooth). Who do you thank from your early days? My mum, Diane Chard (Chardell Chihuahua's), Prue Burnett, Carol Smith (my dog show 'other' mother) Who really helps/helped you out and you wouldn't be where you are without them? Everyone in Darwin has helped me in some way, whether it be what to do or what not to do, but apart from the above my favourite person and still a major influence in my showing life is Sandra Lew-Fatt, without the guidance of these people I would never have achieved the things that I have in Junior Handling or in the Confirmation ring. Over favourite memories Some of my other favourite memories include competing at JH finals, my very first BIS with Sandra's Pug Bonnie. The night Bonnie got her last points for her Grand Ch. Cindy Easterbrook offering to purchase a Lhasa Apso for me to campaign and the day he got his title. Too many to list probably.
  7. Those links are great will have a look from home (stupid filters).
  8. How did you get started in showing? What was your first dog/breed? What is your favourite memory? (Doesn't need to be a win but just a significant moment, maybe the moment you knew you were hooked?) Who do you thank from your early days? Who really helps/helped you out and you wouldn't be where you are without them? There are more questions I was thinking of but this will do for now. Feel free to add questions or whatever other answers you think fit.
  9. Yeah I looked for tutorials as well but have come up empty handed. I'm considering buying a small length of the para cord and trying a few different things but don't want to waste it. I'm all for supporting those making them around Australia but am looking to experiment a little with lengths of leads and attaching them to chokers and making slips as well.
  10. All Darwin shows are 15mins from my house. The furthest I've travelled by road is 1500km's to Alice Springs but I've flown to shows in most states.
  11. My mum and I have talked about this before with other Showie friends. Pointscores can bring the worst out of people. This win or die mentality takes over without them realising. I understand many are suggesting improvements to make it fairer for as many as possible etc, but there is only so many times that Troy needs to here the suggestions. This topic has been done to death and Troy has said that there may be changes coming along in line with comments made. Let's let sleeping dogs lie for a while and wait for the changes to come into effect and give them a year or two to play out.
  12. I compete against myself. My dogs compete against each other. I completely disregard the other dogs in the competition and compare my guys. It's nice to look within the NT at the moment and have dogs at the top of Rising Star etc but realistically we are two shows in and by the end of the 12 months I won't even care about that and will see that x dog of mine tallied up y points and I'm very proud of the work I have done with their owners etc. Some people take this Pointscore a little too seriously at times and forget that we do this hobby because we enjoy it, I love to win as much as the next person but it's not the be all end all for me enjoying my hobby. I am happy that there is even a Pointscore set up for us to compete in. Get a bit of perspective of what you want out of this hobby and perhaps re-evaluate why you enter in the first place.
  13. Second show of the year. I didn't hold hope to match last week as it was an amazing night but we tried to match it. Thought I'd just update here instead of creating multiple threads. First in was Harry (Staffordshire Bull Terrier - Ch Ironstaff Bad Tothe Bone) winning Best in Group for the second week in a row The Beagle's were next up, Ben (Sanmar Blue Moon) won DCC and RUBOB and also Minor Puppy in Show and Rosie (Jansline Dancing Queen) won BOB and Junior in Group. Next up was the Swedish Vallhund's, Abbey (Ch Ausled Rodeo Real Deal) won Best in Group - to say I was over the moon is a complete understatement, this was her first BIG and hopefully not her last. Her babies also came out to play with NorthernSun Freyja Almond winning Baby of Breed over her brother in her first show. Last but not least, Gidget (Italian Greyhound - Berizza Love Supreme) winning RUBOB Puppy in Show and her housemate Cherub (Italian Greyhound - Piccino Zucchero) knocking her off for BOB and won Minor Puppy in Group For all the Pat fans, she has come into Season and given the venue we don't like taking dogs out that are in Season. Fingers crossed her first show will be the next one. I have put our results up for these shows on the DOL Ps and Sandra owns/co-owns the dogs that fill 1st and 2nd in the Rising Star. 4 dogs in total Great start for us.
  14. Yayyy!! Carol sure was shocked. Great win with the young Lady.
  15. Good try Aziah "Ever" is about the most beautiful puppy I have ever seen Well just about anyway ;) It doesn't seemed to have worked. Oh Aziah, didn't anyone tell you?? All puppies that meet Pat become heartbroken if forced to leave. She'll just have to stay here after your visit. Ever's coming to Darwin
  16. That's what I'm getting at. How? Are they stitched together? How do they make it so neat and almost like they loop inside to make a nice seam. I've found it for $20 including postage. 1000ft is about $70. I'm too picky to get others to do it for me :D
  17. I don't want bling leads, at least at this stage, and it's impossible to get leads up here and I can't always get to shows down south. What I was wanting to know is how to make the leads so I can replace the leads I have as I need to. Anyone want to share how?
  18. Ever is soooo ugly! Send her to Darwin :D
  19. Harry is now qualified for BOTG We also qualified Cherub (Italian Greyhound - Piccino Zucchero) for COTRS on the weekend.
  20. You need to do some updated photo's for the 2010 prospects thread.
  21. Will have to make it to a show in Brisbane this year to come say hi.
  22. Yeah you should, heck I keep slogging away with Morgie. yeah i know pugs are so god dam hard thou, I think most importantly she will enjoy a few more shows before she has her first litter. Yeah same with rare breeds, never get looked at in a group line up. Got a RUIG with a Rare breed over the weekend. Quality always gets a look in.
  23. Hopefully we can finish the same way I must say that I couldn't have got through Saturday night without the assistance of my mum, her partner and my partner. For Sandra and I to juggle 11 dogs is basically impossible so it's the support from these people that really gets us through. You rock!
  24. She's coating up really nicely too Bel
