  1. cheers!!!! how about the tail? the girl im thinking of showing has a full tail, not curled... when stacked should the tail be held up?? sorry for the seemingly stupid questions but ive never shown a vallhund before, I think I need to come to a few shows to watch the veterans do their thing..

  2. I am currently completing my cert IV vet nursing through provetlearning, theirs is a nationally recognised course and I think they are great... I would definantly suggest your daughter look into it... it can also be done as a gov recognised traineeship, they are a registered training organisation...

  3. I would not ever leave a child unsupervised with ANY animal PERIOD.

I don't like children. Any animal be it a bird to a bullie should always be under the supervision of an adult. A child may do demeaning things to the animal, antagonise it etc the animal may bite, or react. If you are a parent and ever leave your child alone unsupervised with an animal especially a dog you are a FOOL. PERIOD.

No justification, nothing. Animals are unpredictable and it is your job as the parent to ensure both your child and animal are safe in each others presence.

Do I think pits are good with children? Heck yes! Do I think they should be left alone? Never no matter how much you trust your dog.

What happened to this lady is so sad. What a sad, painful, terrifying way to die. No one should ever suffer her pain ever. Nor should these dogs ever be forgiven immediately they should be put to sleep. No questions. I don't care what they are ANY dog that attacks a human unprovoked like that should be put to sleep.

Unprovoked human aggression should never be tolerated. Period.

 I dont care what breed the dogs are, they are DOGS and should not be human aggressive. full stop. my heart goes out to the lady killed and to her family, horrible way to die, my worst nightmare... remember the nature vs nuture argument? ive seen cockers rip a chi apart and ive seen pitbulls curl up in front of the heater with cats, a dog is what you make it...

  4. my advice would be to have a chat to the head vet at your clinic before putting any details up on a public forum, let the vet you saw explain themselves beforehand  ... the vet may have just been a recent graduate with some work to do on her people skills and didnt realise she was coming across as rude (admittedly they should have done a head to toe exam before vaccinating).

  5. Old family red nose is the name of a famous line of pitbulls.

The fact that a pitbull has a red nose doesn't mean it's from OFRN lines, though. A lot of less informed pitbull owners think their dog is special or from certain lines just because it has a red nose, which isn't the case. Lots of pitbulls that aren't from OFRN at all have red noses.

Just like although all dalmations have spots, the fact your dog has spots doesn't necessarily make it a dalmation!

So true Staranis, I've lost count of the number of times i've heard people referring to their dogs as rednose, what stupid uneducated fwits.. if you're really into a breed learn the facts!!

And as someone else posted having a rednose certainly doesn't make it a pitbull, labs, dobes i'm sure there's more and people just buy into the hype!

They somehow think that rednose is some special type of pitbull which it is not. And i doubt there's any true ORFN in Australia.

 however there are true OFRN dogs in australia, fat chance joe blo down the street has one though, those who own true OFRN would never in a million years let their lines/dogs get out to the general public...

  6. JoeK, I get what you are saying, sometimes dogs just "have it" even with no work as babies, Jeff I agree it does give them a better chance if work is done as bubs... you are both correct...

Pups so far all look like they have what it takes, they will be leaving next week for working homes, thank you to all who replied.

  7. I would also be interested in knowing the pedigree if you are able to find it out? If you have any left I might be able to arrange for an assessment for either detection or protection roles but they would not be able to be desexed upon sale. I am not to sure how suitable these pups will be as well as it does not look like this company would have put in any effort to early imprinting and socialisation.

they are being heavily socialised and worked with atm, zero chance they are leaving me without being desexed, sorry! as mentioned before, one is already going to a bomb trainer and IMO should do well, they have already been assessed.... contacted the company today and got a flat out no for reviewing the pedigree again, cant blame them considering the abuse I hurled at them... thanks for all the site links guys!

No worries. May I ask who the EDD trainer is? is the dog going to be supplied to a private company or government department? I am not allowed to purchase desexed dogs for the department I am selecting dogs for, good luck finding homes for the rest. I will ask around at a training night tomorrow but I am not sure any other departments will be interested as the pedigree is not known and they will be desexed.

ETA: The security company should not be breeding dogs and I doubt would have the expertise involved for properly training dogs for this role, especially Belgian Malinois. I would be interested to know what the name of the company is? It is rare these days but I sometimes complete training for Security Company's and dog handlers and I would hate to be associated with these people.

as you can imagine its not good protocol to pass out peoples information via a public forum, I highly doubt he would appreciate me doing so, the dog will be his not gov or company owned, no kidding the company shouldnt be breeding dogs, hence the abuse I hurled at them, again it would be very unprofessional of me to give their details on a public forum... I will say this though, dont stress - you wouldnt be associated with them as they are not in your area and I know the trainer they use and they use him exclusively (lol, he is not impressed either!!).... thanks for the help everyone!

  9. I looked at the parents pedigree but was so fuming I didnt really take much notice other than to make sure they were both reg'd and pure, pups arnt reg'd, owner of company apparently approached breeder of dam but they refused to reg the litter for them... so pups are pure but un-pedigreed...

  10. I am going to ask a question

How many of the people who criticise the ANKC/ DogsNSW etc in regards to BSL are members? The ANKC and state CCs are not a goverment bodies but a societies made up and run by its members. If you don't like what they do join and become active and change how it is run.

I am against BSL and don't necessarily agree with what DogsNSW is saying but I also don't expect any club/society etc to go to bat for people who don't belong to it when those people only criticise them.

I am a member and im very peeved to find out about this!!!!! not impressed DogsNSW!!!

  11. Hi,

I would not normally put something like this in the training section but this is a bit of an unusual thing for me... ive had some female purebred malinois pups surrendered to me as it was an accidental litter from two working dogs and the company that owns them just simply doesnt have the time to do the right thing by them... they are lovely girls but are very high drive and high energy, they need a working home... they will be desexed, vacc and chipped prior to homing... anyone interested please contact me via PM...

  12. well a lady i know was asking for $3000 for a blue male pup (staffy) and his brindle sister from the same litter was only $900... how can you charge $2100 more for a pup from the exact same litter?? and these pups are only on limited register so cant even breed them or anything. their father was locally bred & owned and basically studded out to every bitch in the state...

yet another breeder i know had imported champion semen from the UK, bitch is top quality, pups were on main register and she only asked $1800 per blue pup.

    ;) :p

$3000 for a limited register blue pup is outrageous!

  13. You're in Darwin...they aren't always that clever up there.

Every Pet Barn I've been to apart from the ones in Darwin have been great, knoweldgeable staff. It's just that Darwin isn't drawing from the same population base as elsewhere and I guess they have to find someone to staff the shops.

I'm moving to somewhere which doesn't have a Pet Barn and I have to say I'm going to miss it.

Lucky for you I know your only kidding!! im from Darwin and im a pretty smart cookie (not talking myself up here or anything! ) plenty of intelligent people up there, also loads of dumb teenagers (just like NSW), you know what they say! pay peanuts and you get monkeys!!! the vast majority of petstores in all the states ive been to have idiot young staff who dont know jack (monkeys!!!) im pretty blown away by the changing food comment, that one is a shocker!
